with your fsb at 333 you should be able to run your memory at 999mhz or 333 using a multiplier of 3 depending on how your bios is. the spec speed for that memory is 1000mhz at 5-5-5-15 timings. that would be only 1mhz under spec.
BTW don't mix memory speeds. if you do all your memory will only run as fast as the slower speed memory.

Thats what it is running at, by 500 mhz I meant 1000 because its dual data rate or something so it gets doubled I think. Maybe I'm wrong, so any insight into that would help.
EDIT: Oh and I changed the timings, they are 5-5-5-15. I read in a review that this memory is very good performing and can run at even tighter timings, I haven't tried that yet. This Is the review.

yeah, I figured that's what you meant but wanted to be sure you weren't running it at only 1/2 it's rated speed.
if you decide to add another gig of ram, be certain it is the same speed and preferably the same make. also in order to keep your memory in dual channel you need to add in sets of two matched sticks (2x512, 2x1024, etc).

So about the AS 5, would spreading it around the whole CPU be fine? My temps just wont go down from mid 50s, and this is in a house that is air conditioned 24/7.

your problem is not with the AS5, the problem is the oem cpu hsf. I highly recommend replacing it with an aftermarket performance cpu hsf (zalman CNPS9500, zalman CNPS9700, arctic freezer 7 pro, thermalright ultra extreme, etc) especially if you intend to OC.
my cpu is OC'ed 50% and rarely gets over 60 C. it idles around 34 - 35 C during the summer months and 32 - 33 C during the winter months.

very seldom. oem hsf's are junk. you've invested in all those other quality components, why skimp on a good cpu hsf. you're going to have to get an aftermarket cpu hsf if you want your cpu temp in the forties or lower even at idle.

Alright then whats a good after market cooler that doesn't cost too much. Thing is that I work for my dad but he doesn't pay me, my parents paid for my PC though. I might be able to convince them to buy me a cooler but it cant cost too much.

If one of the ones you mentioned before is too expensive then see what you can find in an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro or a Zalman 9500. Both are better than average and usually priced reasonably.
Try bumping your memory settings to 5-4-4-12 and see what happens. I have mine set at those settings, thanks to DocTY and it runs great. You have better memory than mine. Mine's only PC6400 so you might be able to run at 4-4-4-12. I can, but it's wasn't stable and I didn't want to go too hard on the memory voltage! It won't hurt to try though! Every little bit helps!
EDIT!!! The freezer 7 Pro is on sale at Newegg for 34.99! The 9500 and the Thermalrite are $20 or more higher!

Hey Sam,
I just discovered why the stock cooler worked so well on Gina's 4300! It was the cooler for the D-940! The presler is a known heater, so that makes sense! The 4300 cooler has never been out of the box! I was cleaning out my bottom drawer of my desk and I noticed one box was heavier than the other, so I guess the one for the presler has more copper in it! That would help to explain the low 30s temps at 3.0GHz! I never even noticed as I just grabbed one and installed it! LOL!!

Ahhh right, jammy! In fact, an E4300 at 3.2Ghz probably makes very little more heat than a D940 at 3.2Ghz!

Quote: Ahhh right, jammy! In fact, an E4300 at 3.2Ghz probably makes very little more heat than a D940 at 3.2Ghz!
Actually, it makes a bit less! The D-940 is twice the wattage of the E4300. 65w vs 130w. It runs mid to high 30s in the front room without A/C at stock 3.2GHz. From what I've read from various hardware forums, the E4300 pulls less than that at 3.2GHz. Somewhere between 120-125 watts! I've tried running the specs through every CPU wattage calculator I can find, and they all seem to agree with that wattage!
Gina's computer improved it's temps after she installed the Freezer 7 Pro by a couple of degrees over the D-940 cooler that I set it up with. My guess is that if she made the same fan mods I did, hers would idle a bit cooler too. The fan control on her MB doesn't control the fan as well as the one on the DS3, so I don't know if she could get it as quiet! It probably wouldn't be worth the expense for her anyway! She's happy with low 30s, although she used to complain when the MB temp went over 37C! LOL!!

sammorris & abuzar1,
Sam,
Quote: What voltage do you run it at? With my settings I keep getting told 140W!
I'm running 3.2GHz with a bios setting of 1.350v. I get 124.615 watts on the calculator. I'm using Shane's calculator because it shows the highest wattage of all the calculators I tried!
Quote: 800mhz, 4-4-4-12, desynced to a Front-side bus of 1334mhz. That's one thing this motherboard does do right.
Yes, it's almost perfect for that. At 3.0GHz I had to raise the setting to 803Mhz unlinked, to get a true 800 Mhz reported on the startup screen, Cpuz and OCCT. Otherwise they all reported 799Mhz!
abuzar1,
Quote: Alright, I'll see what I can do. Theone, what voltage do you run your memory at?
I'm using GSkill PC6400 memory that's rated at 1.9-2.0v, set at 2.0v. My fsb is 1425Mhz and the memory is running at 890Mhz@5-4-4-12, using a 2.50 memory multiplier! Within limits the P5N-E MB Sam has, allows you to set the memory speed independent of the fsb. Since you can tweak it by ones, getting exactly 800Mhz is easy. Like I said, it took setting the memory speed in the setup to 803Mhz to get a true 800Mhz on the P5N-E/E4300 I built. Nice feature!
Your voltage is set perfect at 2.2v, as that's what recommended by Crucial. I don't like to have to raise the memory voltage if I can help it as it makes the memory run hotter. I can make mine run just a hair under 3.4Ghz (3.394) but I have to raise the memory voltage to 2.3v and the CPU voltage to 1.4v to keep it stable, which I'm not willing to do! For the benefits gained, it just makes too much heat, and water cooling is not an option for me!
Best Regards,
Russ

abuzar 1,
the fsb does effect the memory speed. some mobo's, including the P5N-E will let you unlink the fsb:dram ratio. it's not always a plus though. you can usually make your memory permorm just as well or maybe even better on mobo's that won't let you unlock the fsb:dram ratio by playing with the fsb, cpu divider, and memory divider.
usually the memory will perform best at or near it's rated speed but in some cases it will perform better a little OC'ed.
you had yours set about right since you are using faster memory than me, sam, or russ. you have DDR8000 (1000MHZ) and we are using DDR6400 (800mhz).
usually your goal is to keep the ram at or near it's rated speed and keep the fsb:dram ratio at 1:1. in order for you to achieve a fsb:dram ratio of 1:1 you would need to raise your cpu freq to 500 using a cpu multiplier of 6 (3.0ghz) or cpu multiplier of 7 (3.5ghz) (which I doubt you can achive with an E6400). there are other variables of course but you get the idea.
my optimum goal was to reach a fsb of 400 thus keeping my fsb:dram ratio at 1:1 and keeping my memory at it's rated speed of 800 (400x2). I was able to achieve this by OC'ing my E6600 to 3.6ghz (400x9).
you will need to determine your max stable cpu OC or reach your goal OC and then set your memory at a speed that it will perform the best by performing memory benchmark tests, whether it be near or at it's rated speed or a little OC'ed.
there's little you can determine about how much you can OC your cpu though until you get a better cpu hsf.

I ran your numbers through Shane's Calculator. I had to split the difference between 1.4 and 1.450 because he doesn't have a 1.425 setting and came up with about 130 watts. 1.4v would give 125.641 watts while 1.450 would give 134.775 watts. 130.641 watts by splitting the difference!
