I have sent you a PM, hope you reply to me to help me. Anyway, I have:

- Nintendo DS Lite Console
- R4 SDHC (Upgrade) Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS) bought from memorybits.co.uk
- Kingston 4GB microSD card

I have tried to format the microSD card using Panasonic formater software and the following firmware versions:

- R4 Eng v1.08b -> boot up ok, loaded game & got msg "Application halted... refer..."
- R4 Eng v1.08b -> boot up ok, loaded game & got same msg "Appli..."
- R4 III -> same msg "Appli..."
- R4 New v 1.24 -> not working, cannot boot, only saw "Menu?" on scrn
- R4 v 1.25 -> not working, cannot boot, only saw "Menu?"
- R4SDHC v1.5 --> not working, can't boot
- even tried English 2.0 R4i -> can't boot, got "Loading..." hang forever

What else should I try, please help. thanks a lot

==> SOLVED IT BY MYSELF. EASY SOLUTION THOUGH ITS NOT THE BEST BUT AT LEAST EVERYTHING WORKS FINE NOW. ALL THE ROM GAMES PLAY WONDERFUL, NOT THE FIRMWARE, NOT THE FORMAT, NOT THE MEMORY.

IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS MINE, LET ME KNOW, I'LL SHOW YOU. ITS VERY SIMPLE. FOR NOW, I'LL BE LEAVING THE FORUM BECAUSE I DON'T SEE ANY FURTHER HELP FOR MY CASE. I TRIED EVERY SOLUTION HERE BUT NONE CAN HELP IN MY PARTICULAR CASE. FOR NOW, I'M HAPPY WITH WHAT I FOUND.

GOOD LUCK GUYS

i tried everything then finally just formatted the 2gb kingston (sp?) card to FAT not FAT32 and downloaded the v1.25 from R4SDHC.com. Copy all 5 files into your card. The step by step instructions dont say all 5 only 4 of them! :) make <games> folder, put ROMS in it.

works perfectly now.

I have just bought an R4 myself, and whilst awaiting for it to arrive i've been researching a little on the firmware updating side of things. Basically i have now updated my kids' R4's from 1.21 to 1.25 and the music function now works (didn't work before), it seems that whoever set the cards up previously hadn't installed Moonshell, so now i know what Moonshell is for :)
Anyways, I found and saved firmware versions 1.21 thru 1.25 from here ~ http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/ (though i only installed 1.25) and all seems fine. My kids' cards are 'R4 SDHC Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS)' cards and are genuine SDHC, still a clone card by all accounts but the better ones, i guess the reason so many people in this thread are having problems is due to the sheer number of versions/clones/fakes of the R4 (and other types of) cards..

To tidy up the root directory of the cards i created a Games and a Music folder (as neither existed previously - card worked fine without them though) and all seems to work fine.

edit
- One of the R4's was suddenly showing most of the games as missing so moved all the games back to the root directory, deleted the Games directory and all is well again. Have left the Music directory in place though. Removed the Games folder from the other R4 now, it's not necessary and actually makes navigating the R4 from the menu, more confusing.

edit- my R4 arrived, it's called 'R4 SDHC Upgrade Revolution', uses 1.09b firmware. Was worried about the 'Upgrade' in the name as that was not what was illustrated on the site i bought it from, however it works a treat, with all games i've tested with so far. The 4GB MicroSD card it came with was FAT32 formatted, no loading or other problems..The firmware can be found here ~ http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/

And instead of the huge box that the R4 can arrive in, mine's in a tidgy cute little box like this ~

For those of you thinking of buying a Flash Card, such as an R4 or any of the other numerous ones avilable, if you buy one with a Micro SD card from www.dragonds.com they'll put the correct firmaware on the Micro SD card for you for a small additional few.

Hi everyone,

As I have been reading, alot of you are still having trouble loading Kernels to your R4's that you bought from different companies.

I have not been around for some time and have browsed through all the activity that this site has generated and still there is no answer to everyone's plight.

I have helped in the past and I know alot of you have been sending requests for help to me.

Anyone who still is within doubt of fixing their DS issues, give me a sign and I am now able to help further.

Pugg back on course to help.

Hi Pugg,

I sent you a message a while back, and I just sent you another one now. Please reply to me when you get the chance my R4i is sitting collecting dust since I have been unable to solve the issue myself.

Please check your private messages and email me when you get the chance.

Thanks,

Hi, to all those who would require some assistance with thier DS, can you please send me a private email so that we can try and resolve the issues you are having. If and when the problems are fixed, then you can add comments to this board for others to read and hopefully relpy back.

Do not send me your email onto this board (send it private), as you will probably be kicked off or have your message diluted so yr email does not show.

Hope I can help any of you who are having difficulties.

I have the Zelda NDS lite (gold version) and a transcend 4gb SDHC but it's also stuck at the loading screen.

Have tried v3.11, 1.20, 1.26, 1.54, v1.25, and the downloads at r4ultra.com to no avail.

Is tearing hair out and would really like to get rid of this headache.

My kingston 2gb SDC is suddenly not working too.

The biggest issue with the R4 is the number of different cards all needing different firmware's (38!).

The general rules to eliminate most issues are,

1) Format your micro SD with Panasonics SD formatter (free use Google to find) and use it each time you change the firmware.

2) Download your firmware and extract it straight on to the SD (not onto the PC then transfer)

3) Try the available firmware's - http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/ hosts them all, start with the likely candidates and work your way through

4) Ensure the SD is seated correctly in the R4 before putting into the DS

5) Try the paper shim trick - if the contacts to the DS are not good enough then the unit can not draw enough power to run. Put a piece of folded paper or thin card between the DS and the cartridge to push the contacts together

6) Unless it specifically says - the unit can take up to 2GB micro SD's, if it says SDHC then it can take up to 32GB (16GB is currently the highest available)

7) Ensure the clock is correctly set on the DS - this upsets some R4's

8) At the firmware stage do not put any roms on, get it past the loading issue first. Once past the loading issue put 1 known good rom on and see if you can get it to run (some firmwares will boot on other cards but will not run a rom)

Hmm too bad nothing of this worked for me.
I also have a R4 SDHC, downloaded the firmware from r4sdhc.com and from the sites kittymat mentioned, but none worked.
I have a R4 SDHC on the box the site name is ''http://www.r4sdhc.com
but the kernels didn't work on that site, almost tried every one.
Still don't know what the problem is :(

I really think I got a broken card...

smith,

If you send me your email private on here, I will attach the bits for you to download and use on your R4.

Let me know which R4 you are using for your DS and is your console a DS, DS Lite or DSi.
