Yes the game will not work with SM 2.0. I've tried several ways and no dice.
I've heard that it plays just fine with SM 3.3/3.6

"Most Wanted for PS2 is NOT an online game"
where do you people get your information from anyway?
this DOES have online play for all systems (PS2,PC,Xbox,Xbox 360)
from EA Games website
"Race Online* Need For Speed Most Wanted features online play for Xbox 360, Xbox, the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and the PC."

Steimy - you're just wrong. I have the original PS2 game - I should know...only the Xbox & PC versions are online-enabled...the PS2 version is not (EA had originally planned to include online for PS2 version but pulled the plug prior to production).

I dont think you should disrespect people that have been around here alot longer than you have. People make mistakes, give em a break.

No disrespect whatsoever...
He was the one telling me I had my information all wrong - some people should not be so quick to judge especially when they don't even have the game themselves!!

I decrypted and rebuilt this game and it works perfectly with SM 2.0
It has no flaws whatsoever and I have been playing for about 2 and a half hours now.

He didn't disprespect him, he corrected him. And so he should, the amount of people who don't own the game who argue that it's online for PS2 has become really annoying.

I stand corrected then, but i have read many pages on this
game and they all say it has online play for PS2, i didn't get the PS2 version because the Xbox version had slighly better graphics. Even EA's own site for the game says it does. But if you have the full retail version then i will take your word for it.
"Burn through edgy industrial and urban landscapes in which the environment can be a friend or foe
All-new gameplay options incorporate strategic cop pursuit and skill-based evasion tactics
Extensive visual customizations let you pimp your ride for maximum cool
Defeat the best street racers to earn respect and make the top of the Blacklist
Build your rap sheet with record-breaking times, street challenges and by outwitting the police
Head to the safehouse to tune your ride to match up successfully against any class of vehicle
Amazing next-gen graphics include real-time lighting and normal mapping
Race online for additional challenges and thrills"

I've found a solution that seems to work!! (at least for me).
I tested with both SM 2.0 & 3.6 DVD disc on my v5 PS2 even on the busiest courses that were a problem with me like Seaside & Fisher.
When you swap in your backup, press the SQUARE (special boot) button - instead of X, and the jittery reads and "Loading" problem goes away!!!
Try it out and let me know if it works for you.

Steimy - no harm done and no offense meant at all.
FYI: If you do get the game, you can tell if it has no online capability because you'll see there are no DNAS* files anywhere on the disc.

Jaxxpro - don't know what to tell you other than burn on better media - what brand and type are you using?? (also DVD-R or +R?) (and at 1x - people think speed doesn't matter but it does! - the faster you read & burn, the MORE likely you'll get a coaster or problems with your disc)...mine works perfect even in career mode (but you MUST hit the square button to boot, not X). My backup is on Taiyo Yuden...best around! I also use Ritek with NO problems. Skip the rebuild - you don't need to rebuild this game - you might have made an error there - this game is WELL under the Swap Magic TOC (3.44GB vs 4.35GB) so you can just do a straight copy with Decryptor. No patching necessary either.

so read speed matters as well when extracting the iso using decrypter? mine is always set to max and with this game it loads fine and all,but after a while i get jumpy audio and when the first thingy starts where the cops are chasing you and you have the tv-like footage, the cars are driving, but you can't see the road they are on,it's all blank with just cars...

when i put my read speed at 1x, DVD Decrypter completely ignores this and reads the game at 7x till 15x and it's finished reading in about 5 minutes, not nearly close to the hour Tokijin states, how come???

Most important is the burn speed - personally I always use 1x for games and I've NEVER had a bad burn...honest.

ok lovecars...NO you can't use the original as a Swap Disc...the only usefulness of an original game w/backups is as large TOC (when the backup size exceeds the Swap Magic disc size..ie larger than 4.35GB)..best one to own for a large TOC original is Devil May Cry (full game or demo>actually slightly larger)..most people are rebuilding instead of using a large TOC disc nowdays however.

one small question to all those who burnt the game successfully on one type of media and burnt it again on another media, WHY? WHY WOULD ONE BURN A GAME ON ONE MEDIA AND SAYS IT WORKS PERFECTLY AND BURNED IT ON ANOTHER ONE AND SAYS IT WORKS FINE ON BOTH OF THEM? I AM CONFUSED. CAPSLOCK IS ON PURPOSE.
