Disregard, i did not have the metal casing back on it tightly Now it is working thanks to a heavy candle to keep it stable it is working perfectly, only problem im running into is xbox360 ss merger when i click on calculate md5 it comes back after a few minutes stating that it can not connect to the database? I gave it permission through my firewall to access it.....

Yea got it all working now. I read in another forum that the SS merger server is down due to not enough people donating so it was closed down. I also heard that even though its down you still use the merge button and it will stay red. but it will still work. I burned dead rising and Rainbow Six, I havent confirmed if they worked yet due to waiting on my SATA card. I will let you know if it all works. Thanks for the advice and help.

I am newbie at the scene of modding a 360. This method seems the easiest to do right now. But I have some questions before I start buying equipment and performing these actions. The first question I have is, do I have to flash my 360 drive? Can I use a external dvd burner with DL capabilities to do this? Is it easier to use an external or internal burner to get the cover off? Where can you find dvds that say they’re 7.6 GB?I ask these questions because I would like to make back-ups for my 2 360’s without buying 2 games each time. Thank you.

@Specops70 we are talking about ss merger when you open the ss file and it is the right one it matches up and turns green.

@herrera22 yes your 360 must be flashed or it will not read unless you have a chip.

@Bleach67 must be flashed or chipped its really up to you what kind of drive you want to use i use a internal and its just fine external prob would be easier but its really just prefrence

I have heard of places that will flash the drive for you... Is this true and if so where do I go? Or is that against this site's rules?

Ok, yes no matter what you have to flash your drive. It is very risky and nerv recking. I did not think i would be able to do it but i did (took a few tries but i got it done) Now, My opinion is to create a second partition on your hard drive that is under 36 gigs..just make one that is like 3 or 4 gigs and use off of that drive. To simply create a second partition i used an exscellent program called "Paragon Hard disk manager 8 {Which is easily found if you know where to look)". This utility rocks. I have included all the tools that you will need (Except for the firmware and Paragon utility) including a step - by - step tutorial (Not made by me. I give the author full credit im just passing on his knowledge). These are the tools and tutorials i used to get me by.

The reason i used these becasue i did not want to use a floppy disk and also my computer would not read a flash drive (USB) to boot up the computer. So i used NTFS4DOS and my second partition. Like i said just follow the tutorial and you will be good to go. I suggest the Harddrive method. Works perfectly.

I do have a SATA Controller Card that i used. I bought it just for this reason. here is a link to one..or search ebay may get it cheaper (i got mine for $10) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815124022

Included in the bundle is the Xbins software which will lead you to the Firmware if needed. The tutorial also explains how to find it in Xbins. Any questions feel free to ask. I have already backed up 7 of my games and they work perfectly. Also works same on LIVE. Enjoy.

thanks again to Cearel for his HELP!

HERE IS THE LINK FOR THE BUNDLE:

Do you need a certain type of DVD -R DL disks and a certain type of drive for this to work? I've read a new of posts saying that pioneer 111D and Verbatim disks work perfectly.

Thanks!

Thanks Cearel,

I have one more question:

When you go to get the ss file for the game does it automatically go out and find it for you?

anyone know of a program for PC that can be used to tell the region of a game?
I could use one of those so i know which stealth files i need.
Some of them i just do not remember as i got the games a while before i got my 360.

Here is a file containing the most common SS files.

http://rapidshare.com/files/18270543/Game_Security_Sectors.rar

These are all NTSC for USA ONLY.

When you open the SS merger you have to open the ISO file and click yes on md5 sum. After about 10 minutes you should get a big error box pop up. The reason for this is cause hackhell was not provided with enough donations to keep the server up. Thus it has been shut down. this is fine just clikc ok and then load the games SS file from the above .RAR file. then click merge and that's it your done.
