Just wanted to say a thanks to wiredbojo for the ongoing support on this - the advice and help given is bob on.
Just as a bit of encouragment to anyone trying to set ths up at the mo, I've had similar problems to what you are having, and I've managed to overcome them by following absolutely to the letter the guides and advice, especially in the earlier posts. I've had this working over 3 different networks and the process really doesn't alter between networks.
At the moment I have a wireless router connecting to a second wireless router and then going wired into the PS2 and that works a treat in the same way any of the others do.
As for the FTP issue - I've used flash fxp and that seems to be really stable when needed.
So as wiredbojo said - as long as you follow the posts and guides on this topic you will eventually get there.....probably just in time for the PS3 to come out.
Good luck :)

not with hdavance and an external hardrive.
but google usb extreme, that works with external hdds :D.
ohh ps anyone having problems with seeing the memory card but not their files on the hdd, you need to mount the HDD in the FTP program. i have no idea how to, (should be covered in this thread), because i use leechFTP
advantages of leech
1) free, so u dont have to reinstall or pay for it
2) seems to mount the HDD stuff automaticaaly.

as there have been around 3-4 different ways of connecting to the ps2.
could u please list what u have done in order? many people will agree with me that it does just plain work, when it is setup rite.
it seems you may have put the IP wrong, thats my stab in the dark.

Couple of things that might help people struggling with this guide:
BLACK SCREEN right at the beginning of the tutorial? - This is probably because you haven't copied the INSTALL.CNF file across to your ISO.
INSTALL.CNF is not mentioned in the guide and I haven't seen it mentioned in the subsequent posts, but its definitely in the original directory along with SYSTEM.CNF, CONFIG.DAT and EXECFTP.ELF. Make sure you copy this additional file to your ISO as well.
PS1 GAME JUST LOADS? - A possible fix for your PS1 game just loading instead of booting the server on the PS2 - Have you named the PS1 file correctly? I missed the '.' (aka full stop or period) out of SLES_000.00 or whatever name your PS1 game is. If it doesn't boot from the PS1 disk the problem is very probably in the naming of this file, so check it several times.
Once the server boots from the PS1 disk, does your IP address on the TV screen revert to 192.168.0.10 so you can no longer connect to the PS2? Just make a copy of your CONFIG.DAT file and rename it to IPCONFIG.DAT on your PC (this must have your correct IP address inside of it). Make a directory on your PS2 MC0 folder called SYS-CONF. Copy the IPCONFIG.DAT file across to this new directory on your PS2 and try again.

My PS2 is behind a wired Linksys router. I followed the guide and can't connect to my PS2 with ExecFTP or HDL_Dumx. My first question is, how can I tell what the IP is that my PS2 has been assigned by my router. My second is about the Windows XP network settings. I just got finished setting up a static IP for myself yesterday (unrelated to PS2), and I used the same TCP/IP properties page. Exactly what should those settings be changed to if I intend to keep my static IP? Thank you in advance.

never used that program, but if you setup the FTP sections.
you can pull any and all files of your memory card to your pc. Also does the game manual specify how to get the songs?. OR what files they are saved as? EG. mp3. because that would help in finding it.
(every ps2 game save is viewed as a folder in FTP so it makes stuff a tad confusing)

1)use leechftp, its free and seems to agree with the ps2 hdd more.
2) use ulaunchelf, it contains an FTP server, thats easy to edit configs of, and just seems to connect more often.
i've given up trying to help people, who are trying to use software that is years old, when there are better alternatives, that i have repeadtedly suggested.
Also. to connect to the ps2, you need a slim ps2, or a fat ps2 with a network adapter. as well as a ethernet cable, and an ethernet card in ur pc.
Not being familiar with that game however, id think it might possibly support saving to USB flash keys?. 20AUD for a 1gb one is what my dad paid, so if it does and u just want the song, go that route.

howdy, long time no post guys :D
okay, could you be a bit more specific?. Hard to know what's going wrong.
ALSO, FYI, with a modchip there's no real reason to use the exploit. (magic 3 is newer aint it, could use the flash memory? :P).
I'm going to assume you have hdlserver running but it just aint talking nice?. Make sure you have the same versions of hdlserver and hdldumb, different versions dont talk nice. Also i'd recommend getting the very latest versions of the software :P.

well where do i start magic 3 is a fairly old chip but not really the greatest i dont think magic has brought another out after this if thats what u mean
the reason behind me using the exploit is so that i can transfer to another ps2 if need be + my lasers on the way out so im trying to save the wear so i guess i could try every hdld there is but im still skeptical of it is there a way to FTP isos to where it needs to be for hdloader to read it and/or do you know the directory of the hdloader games for FTP transfer like the non-iso files?
which other progs would i need to accomlish this

its also very hard to tell if hdldserver is working cause it runs as NTSC and i have PAL so i cant read about three letters of each line
for that matter being a noob to ps2 (i own a modded xbox its so much easier)its a little bit more involved
which hdld**** do u think is the best

okay with hdadvance formatted (hdl) hdd you should be able to dump games no problems.
note hdl_server and hdl_dump/b MUST MATCH, or it will give errors.
Also for movies etc you use FTP, for games HDL_server. That help?.
Sorry, i'm a little tired, specify the one thing you want most and ill help you lol. Then we go on from there
