ur cables will should work.
sorri to sound like a dick, but ive said that thousands of times,
its timing out most likely because IPCONFIG.dat or CONFIG.dat has been setup wrong.
it is different for each system.
im about to go out now. but this is a simple problem, if u still need help pm with ur MSN account

Can anyone verify this claim? Can you load all the necessary software onto HDD in a unmodified fat PS2 so that it will boot to the HD game list screen without the need for inserting a bought pressed HDAdvance disc everytime?
In other words, is it possible to have it set so that an unmodified PS2 will automatically load to the HD game list screen with this setup?

yes it is. (no he is wrong)
you will need a playstation 1 disc, and to research the exploit...
you use the independance exploit, to boot a BOOT.ELF on the memory card. this can be hdd advance, to play games of a internal hard-drive.
the catch is.
you will need a mochip or a friend with a modchip.
possibly swap discs (not sure never used em myself)
or action replay max (there is a way of installing the exploit via a corrupted save.
or a memory card reader for your pc (ps2s mem card read in pc).
without these, you cannot exploit. (there is no way to install the fiels required)

I understand.
I'm also curious at to whether a PS2 network adapter is absolutely required to use an internal HD in a fat PS2? Are there work-arounds to this? If not, is there a simplified electronics explanation as to why it's required?
Thanks.

u need a N/a for a FAt ps2, or a usb connection.
simple reason is...
u cant plug it up if you dont have the port!
which is on the ps2 network adaptor.
hence a no go

My screen also turns black when I boot execftp. I think because the IP set in the config file is wrong.
Does anyone know how to get your PS2's IP (when having it connected to your PC with a crossover)? I have HDA 2.0 btw.

hdl_dumb server------pc----> hdl dump/dump client
execftp--------------pc-----> FlashFXP
With ipconfig etc, put both of them in the right places.
Don't worry about specifics, both files ensure it works for everything.
Also why doesn't 192.168.0.10 work on your system?.
most routers ip's are 192.168.0.1, and they dish out ip's after that. So 9 other devices is quite high.
if 192.168.0.10 is taken, why not just change the machine its on to a different number?, that will work if u cannot change it on the ps2.

For some reason, the connection always gets timed out when I try to connect. I am thinking that it must be how I am connecting my PS2 to my computer. All I am doing right now is running a cross-over ethernet cable from my PS2 Network Adapter to the ethernet port in the back of my computer. I've also tried to run it through my cable modem, but still nothing. Do I have to have something like a hub or a router to be able to establish a connection between my computer and the PS2 or is there a better way? Thanks in advance.

Okay, I've used the independent compiler to make a memory card exploit work and it boots ulaunchelf, but the programs don't appear on the memory card, however they do appear on my max drive (usb) so I then can select execftp or the hdl_svr elfs, but here's my problem. I used FlashFXP the other day and I was so happy when I finally got it connected to my ps2 hdd, but then I had a similar program where it timed out and then it said crap about the connection being refused. Does this mean my network adapter is broken or my hdd is broken? I'm going to try and rip a game to my hdd on the weekend when I have access to my games (they're at home) so I can test to see if it's the hdd. Anyone had similar problems? I'm thinking it's the network adapter. If not, then I am gonna be sad since I won't know what I'm doing wrong.

guys please be specific.
as standard state modchips, swap discs, hdd size. please also state your gateways, subnet masks, and the ips of the machines you are connecting to. PS. Never refer to a program as a program, use its name, i can't geuss what you are using!
eg. fill this out for everypost (modchip can be None, modchip name, or swap discs). (hdadvance can be whatever, eg retail 2.0, meaning pressed, or downloaded 2.0 meaning .elf or burnt)
Modchip:
Hdadvance version:
HDD:
Gateway:
Subnet:
PC's IP:
PS2 IP:
ps. your connection being timed out could be many reasons, but its not a busted HDD.
most likely a unconfigured or unexistant ip configuration.

Hiya wiredbojo
I have a ps2 with dms3 chip installed have managed to install 80gig maxtor hard drive with network adapter. Also installed iso image onto hardrive using hdldumb, When the ps2 loads up its reads the ps2 as the default ip 192.168.1.0 my subnet is on 10.0.0.0 subnet. i have tried changing the config file and ran hdlsumb again to hard drive, but it still picks up the default ip address. How do i get the ps2 to see my subnet and ip address
regards

what was the quote about?
when it runs does it have any indication about where it loaded the file from?. i think it cant find the file so goes to defaults.
1)Make a .iso of ulaunchelf. It allows you to configure its FTP settings inside it.
2)Connect to the ulaunch FTP server from your pc.
3) copy hdldump_server.elf to your memory card (or a place on your hdd)
4) Copy the ipconfig.dat or config.dat to mc0:/Badata-system (mc0:/bedata-system)
5) then run the hdl server through ulaunch. It should run and take the ip from the file you copied to your memory card.
that will work all the time if done properly. theres no weird errors that can stop that, it will work on any fat ps2.

Hiya
wiredbojo
The ulanchelf is the a ps2 app, also how would you go about making the iso?, what other files would you need. Would you not need to configre ip address first before you can connect to ps2 otherwise it wouldnt see it. What about the 2 files ipconfig.dat and config.dat how would you copy them across?

if you have a FTP or something i can upload Ulaunchelf to you.
Even an email address an i will send as an attachment.
Ulaunchelf runs and creates a file for IP adresses on your memory card, and you can edit this from Ulaunchelf itself.
Hence why i like the program.
Ulaunchelf contains a FTP server inside it that you can run. You can then connect to your ps2 via leechftp (free). Then copy the files to your memory card.
Ive mentioned this.... alot.

hello morten.
Here is the thing.
The ip for execftps Can't be detected automatically.
It is the one you configured, or a default or 192.168.0.10
so in your FTP program you have to connect to that Ip on port 21.
Note: if you are using windows XP, you might want to go to the network connections page, sometimes it needs to be refeshed for XP to see the lan cable is plugged in (if its not it will show u an unplugged symbol).
Network connections is in control panel.
Best regards,
bojo
PS. i am going away for a week tomorrow, so it might be awhile before i can help you

I think that most of us got the same problem, connnection problems with the FTP.
Anyways, the problem is that i am sitting in a mini-lan if i can say so.
I Internet goes directly into my Switch and then it spreads out to my computer and my ps2.
But how do i set up my connection so i can give my self an IP? I receive dynamic ip from my provider.

1) i can understand not reading the whole topic. but for god's sake read the first few and last few.
This is getting redicoulous, i've asked you guys to ask this in a specific way, if you have read this topic, you will know im the one who fixes everyone's problems.
most people bail on this topic because you guys say stuff thats been already answered or say it in a way that doesnt make sense.
2)
write concerning ips, this is a very general guide, but it should help a bit.
most homes have adsl/routers nowadays etc. so im only referring to them.
what happens is your pc turns on, looks for a router (default setup, if youve changed this skip), finds one, router gives it an ip adress. This is the ip address for the pc.
Now in ps2 world, we dont have the option for looking for a router, it would be a bit to code in, plus having a static ip is much more user friendly for ftp'ing. so we must SET the ip manually. This is easy with ULAUNCHELF (which you all ignore me on using, so im not going into detail with helping on execftp, when i know of a simpler, easy way, that you choose to ignore), its a bit more of a challenge in execftp, and unless you know what ur doing, you will probably ruin a few cds etc, or a few hdd plug in /outs.
3)
timeouts occur for many reasons, most likely an incorrect setup, but you all refuse to follow my advice, and give vague god knows what descriptions. so i literally have no idea what you have done, so i cant help.
