it was me who posted the repair/rebuild thing.
however if u do want to use execftp, which works well, there is something u shouldve read in this post but i will say it again.
execftp 0.69 does not work off the hdd, it boots fine off a cd, but does not work off the hdd,
if u want to boot execftp off the hdd use version 0.68 because that works off the hdd.
i dont know why exactly that this doesnt work but thats just how it is, so either butn a cd, put the elf on ur mem card, or use 0.68

sry if i bumped this thread, but im having some problems with hdl dump gui and/or hdl dumb 8.3
i have tried almost everything, i edit the ipconfig.dat file and change my network settings on my computer to those in the ipconfig.dat file but for all the programs it keeps giving me a connection error, when running the hdld server on my ps2, does anyone know how to solve my problem?
also would it matter if i didnt change my default gateway? cuz i was told i only needed to edit the ip address and subnet mask

make sure the versions works with each other. ive noticed the latest hdl dumb doesnt work with my older hdl_server elf. (but thats on cd so no changing it)
unless i get a real detialed description, i cant really help. also maybe learning about your router (or how u access the internet), may help u fix ur problem and help u with future ones

192.168.1.155
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1
i use this based on what my router info says, look at this to see if i did anything wrong

I've heard of problems with faplink. I have hdl dumb 8.3 but I haven't tried it yet, I'll write back when I do though.

Does this work with a v12 or + and HDcombo or XCM HD Connect? Because those two options but a HDD back into the PS2. Only prob is the Memory Card (Independence Exploit) thing stopped working with slimlines. Sony disabled that capability on their memory cards.

I'm not sure if the V12's or later with XCM's HDConnect work. There are other ways of booting the hdld_server.elf file though. I have a DMS4 Pro, so I use a homebrew disc with the .elf file on it. Since you have Swap Magic 3.6, you could probably make a homebrew disc using CDGENPS2 with the .elf file on it and launch it from there. Or you could make a homebrew disc of myPS2 1.0 using CDGENPS2 and use the FTP feature that runs in the background to install it to your memory card. myPS2 1.0 does not require a hard drive to use btw.

the exploit is only used to boot .elfs on UNmodified ps2's.
u will need swap magic if your ps2 is UNmodified. if modded, just create a disc, and ur off. (needs system.cnf properly made to work)

okay ofnir, i was just saying. u would be surprised the amount of people who have modchips, and think they need swap magic, or the amount with modchips, that use the ps2 exploit.
it is not needed, so its better to make this very clear.

I'll admit, there were times when I wanted to try something new with my PS2, and the first thing that popped up was the exploit disc, and halfway through compiling it, I remembered my modchip LOL.

wiredbojo, here is my problem
(i am using everything as stated in the guide, no deviations)
i have managed to get the ftp program on my pc to see my ps2 ONE time. that was when i moved the title and boot files over. since then, nothing.
also, when i use the iso file on my ps2 it causes my internet to stop working on all PCs until i turn the ps2 off.
I have read this ENTIRE guide, finding no solution or people with similar problems.
I have edited the IP to be different (even changing my routers configuration so that the ps2 ip would be out of its range) and no luck.
the ftp program will say its connected and immediately disconnect
PLEASE HELP ME
(if you would like to have a real-time convo with my my msn is jpalm_version1@hotmail.com)

hi,
okay, could u run the diagnostics? on your ps2 online disc? if you bought a N/A u should have one.. if u have a slimline im not sure
i would like to know,
router?
slim ps2?
modchip?
connection? (xover/straight thru)
DCHP?
and anything else u can tell me about your system.
it sounds like ur N/A could be damamged, so i would like you too try and get online and play a game... any game, just to see if i works.
ive addded u on msn, so we can talk there.
hope i can help

ok, thanks for the suggestions.
i ran all the dignostics, network failing each time. I opted to replace the cat5 i was using with a better one (also i changed some of the settings before that)
now the network IS detected.
(btw, im using an unmodded big ol' fat ps2 with hdloader (i formatted it with winhiip though))
now i have gotten the FTP to work, moved over the BOOT.ELF and the title file.
i have inserted the PS1 disc in, which brings me to where i am now.
i am at a screen that says my ip is the "192.168.0.10" but above that it says to use the ipconfig to set the IP so i need to know whats next

Thank you for your advice wiredbojo, i would have never gotten this far without you!
