Several months ago I bought a bunch of verb's at our local Sam's Club, I was suprised at the price they were 22 bucks for a 100 spindle so of course I jumped on it and bought four of them.
What I didn't notice in the store when I got home, they were made in India, I never saw that before, thinking oh oh hope the quality is not downgraded, so far I used two spindles not one coaster, has anybody else used the one's made in India?

Yah, their look is superior to all others! I just find it odd, for one of the so called best manufacturers of media, to have quality control issues! Do you ever look at your media? I mean REALLY LOOK? Im constantly finding imperfections on both the dye and the print surface. Rather dissapointed actually. I have not had any coasters myself, but some of the imperfections make me cringe as far as longevity!

Burn quality of the disc in question. Normally the MIS or MIT will be better than the MII. NOT always the case but it's more often the case to be coincidence. ;) If you're gonna buy Verbies just stick with MIT or MIS depending on SL or DL discs. hth...

That is Correct Sir !!!{ Imagine Booming Ed Mc Mahon voice here } I realize we all get hurried sometimes and sometimes Friends or Family Buy media for us ! Birthdays, Xmas , Holidays ect... And if They Buy you some Verbatims they are more than likely not going to check where they were made unless they are Dvd junkies/ computerheads like some of us ! But people we can increase the odds to atleast 50% in our favor by us looking ! I know the print is small { especially for us Old Farts like me } bring your cheaters or a pocket Magnifying glass and check - For the Gifted verbatims ask them to give you a gift card instead {Diplomatically of course !!!! } We don;t wanna hurt anyones feelings do we ? That would'nt be nice !!!!- In the words of Ms. Rona Barret ! "Keep thinking those good thoughts !!!" Ciao and good day ay !!!!

Yeah Fred I was just messing with you. The way I understand it is they (India made) are not as good but I have no proof of that either. I'm sure Joe Ryan knows. I do try to find MIS(DL) or MIT(SL) when I buy Verbs. Like Bigtoxy said bring your cheaters, I've even asked shoppers to read it for me if I forget my mags. Same went for 8X sony+Rs MIJ(TYs) great-MIT not as good.LOL

omegaman I do look at all my media. with these watershields I haven't seen any imperfections. the batch I have looks really good on both sides
with all the problems that I've had in the early days I have learned to be really picky. I am confident that these are as good as any ty that I have bought in the past. maybe someone else will post so that we can get a third opinion. ty has been far superior than any thing else that I have used.

As to the watershields, I got 200 of them and so far all is fine.
When I opened the pack, I took one of them and wiped it on my shirt (fie, shame, horror) and there was NO damage at all to the disk, nothing whatsoever anywhere. Having done this in the past I learned NEVER to do that again.
We will see how they last and how easy they are to clean.

Hmmfff! Where are you guys buying yours? Ive bought them through both SMS and meritline. Both have been less than perfect. However, I am pretty critical :) Seriously though, there have been marks that would make anyone raise their brow! Im not trying to start some fanboy explosion, but I have had better quality burns with verbatim compared to TY. I STILL LOVE TY, I just think that what im seeing with the watershields is CURIOUS to say the least! They should release a +R watershield, THEN I can reassess the situation. I DO LIKE THE DISCS!!! Infact, verbatim and TY will ALWAYS have my vote. I will buy a VERY large batch next time from SMS and keep a running tally of GOOD/BAD. 1/5 bad may be exagerating :) Just dissapointed thats all. I heard before that their quality control was unparallelled!

Ho ho ho!!! I feel like a BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! Ok...TY currently holds the record for lowest Failure rates(in my hall of fame that is). Although I have YET to see this kinda score with a TYG03 watershield. Heck, I dont think ive had an 03 under 100 PIF!!! Though, I have noticed, that the 03's, paticularly the watershields, seem to like being burned at 12X Plus! Ive found better scores at 16X compared to 8X consistently. Though that does depend on the drives as well :) This is the best TYG02 burn ive seen MYSELF scan! Im sure if you poke around in the HOF at cdfreaks, you'll find better :) This is a TYG02 SILVER printable. THE BEST IVE HAD YET! I'll also post the best TYG03 watershield that ive had to date. Please note, that this is also a RARE score for me regarding the 03 watershields!!! I was QUITE tickled to get that good a scan!

THE TYG02 scan was from quite a while ago! Please dont ask why I kept it in Full view. Im not certain of that myself LOL. Probably something to do with being HOF! Ive got other Silver scans like that by the way :D I would not hesitate to by them again!!!

LOL, Hey there Mr.Big69 I love the way you put, your not the only old fart here lol, your words were so true, you know my eye sight is still 20/20 when it's at a distance trying to read something forget it I to need damn near a magna glass.
Like I said before, it never dawned on me to check at Sam's cause I never saw Verb's made other than Taiwan till I got home, my orders were always from SMS either Ty's or Verb's, these were the first store bought one's I bought on wait I'm lying sometime Office Max does have the same sale 20 bucks for a 100 Verb's every once in a while.
But I must say so far I have used 200 of the India Verb's not one coaster, what remains to be seen is will they last as long.

OM7 even though most of us have the same drives. they are not the same. each drive has something different to them, my first 2 lite-on didn't like Ty's at all no matter what type -/+r 8x or 16x. to this day my SHW-160P6S will not burn TY's. well not with any type of quality to it. and i had 3 LH-18A1P drives and the first 2 wouldn't burn Ty's but the 3rd one loved them.... with my 4 drives now(well 3 seeing the 7220S is dead) my 7200S and 20A4P loves the TY's.. my 7200A actually burn the 2nd tier media as well as the other 2 drives burn TY's,but dont get such good scans on Ty's themselves. i have a few copies of movies my dad wants me to make for him,I'm gonna use the 7200A with some CMC MAG AM3 media and CMC MAG M01. ill post those scans once done.

I've been a longtime user of MII Verb's, they're very good in my opinion, and i've used many of them for some years now. Whenever i buy media, i buy in bulk, and a lot of the tubs sit on the shelf for years at a time (for instance i still have large amounts of TYG02 from circa 2005), both sealed and opened (and for a long time stored under the water line on the river in subzero temperatures).
My point is that discs go in the burners and i could give a hoot as to what country they're from, they burn fine no matter where from or how long stored and playback/recopy fine years later. This is also true of the CMC MAG M01 that i use very often, though of course haven't been using the M01's as long as the Verbs and TY's. Just thought i'd stick up for the MII as they seem to get a lot of stick around here (i'm talking SL discs btw, i don't/won't use DL media)

Well hell thats a little bit of good news for my India verbs, yeah I don't give a hoot were there made also just as long as they are quality, like I said I have burned around 200 so far no problems, and if they last as long as my others than everything is cool.

@creaky
I think that's about what Joe Ryan has been saying for years. LOL I've backed up many dvds, at least 1500 for myself and friends, and I can think of maybe 3( of the one I have) that had pixilation problems or other issue during playback- and I also have burned my share of the various incarnations of +R discs-not so many -Rs.

Yah...Single layer media does more than fine with just video backups. But, surely you dont mean WONT use DL media! For data backups, they still serve a purpose for me. Fairly rare, but I do find myself needing to use them from time to time. When I do, it will ALWAYS be verbatim. Well...if TY ever releases a DL, i'd of course consider them. :D And heck, another good use for DL media is consolidation. I have all the "Back to the Future" discs consolidated on one DL disc. VERY awesome. I see the possibility for other movies as well. I generally dont like pushing more than 5.5-6hrs on a DL disc though. Imagine what one could put on a BD disc. WOW, blows the mind just thinking about it. ehh...HDD's will always be larger though. unless your speaking HVD! Holographic versatile disc

The only time i'll ever have a need for DL is if BD encodes require it, otherwise SL movies are enough for all my movie and data backups. In fact i still prefer CD's over DVD's for important data backups. There was a time that i was going to consolidate all my old CD backups onto DVD's but i have a feeling that all my CD's will outlast any DVD's (a lot of my CD's hail back from when recordable CD's first came onto the market and are still going strong). DVD's haven't been around long enough for me to trust them as much as CD's yet.

Yah...I think I can understand where your coming from. Verbatim released a gold archive (medical grade) a little while back.

Makes me a little nervous. Because, why would they feel the need to upgrade from Datalife, when their obviously performing well. I wonder if they're aware of some kinda issue, that limits their life expectancy? I guess nothing lasts forever :(

O-man7 I think this has been talked about before but my memory is getting worse and I'm not even of retirement age yet. lol. Anyway IIRC the archival grade discs are VERY expensive and supposed to have a life of 100 years plus or something like that. I'm sure creaky knows more but they are very use specific discs and NOT for normal customers like you and me. :P
I'm sure your regular Verbies and TY's will do just fine. :D

Yah...I remember checking the cost on those when they came out. I dont remember what it was. But its TOTALLY for the medical industry!!!
EDIT - I think maxell made something along those lines too
EDIT 2 - ok, they average 1$ to 1.5$ per disc. WOW WOW!!!

It's funny this subject has come up, just yesterday I was reading on a site about how long CD's & DVD's really last, there was a lot of debate about it, this info was pretty interesting, there was a lot of opinions but the guy (the publisher of the site I guess) has his opinion.
I can't remember his exact words but he said something like, He had dealt with so called experts for years on this subject, and they say no matter what grade or manufaturers disc's you use and of course there are better makes than others, that it did not make any difference because no one will last a long time, a long time can be be a difference in other peoples perspective I guess, but they said corporate made CD's & DVD's have a special coating on them which will make them last almost indefinitely, and the store bought one's do not, cause as soon as you make a burn there is no coating and if there was you could'nt burn anyway, they said even those really expensive one's would not make a difference, thus the difference, how do you guys feel about that?
