OK, so I guess the top dog of verbs are the ones made in taiwan, ok cool, cause the ones I bought a bunch of were tiawans, its good I only bought 100 of the india ones, but I will stick with them, I will give them a try and see what happins, actually the next 100 burns will be them, if any failures will report.
Also, a month a go, I ordered Maxell's, dvd+r from office depot, they were 20 bucks per 100 and free shipping, I ordered 400 of them, I did ask Zo about them he did say they are probably ritek or ridata, I think they are ritek, I was kinda dissapointed cause I read about a year ago somewhere that maxells were made by ty's, oh well, not gonna cry over spilled milk now, I have burned about a hundred of them so far havent had any issues with them on any of my machines, but my next door nieghbor who borrows my movies sometime has had issues, his samsung player has trouble watching almost all my maxells, he never had any issues before, all before were either verbs or ty's, this was the first time I encountered any problems with my blank media, so far so good on my machines but bad for him, felt bad, had to apologise.

i thought the same thing about the maxell's being TY's. but docTY himself pointed out that they wer made in japan. they were not TY's as alot of [people thought. they were maxells own brand. they were very good media.. and you can still find them in the printable versions. the MIJ's that is. i think they coded out a mx02 or something like that. i will find out for sure and post.
maxell002 coded.

I haven't seen Japanese manufactured Maxell media in a long time, maybe 2 years or so & that was some 8x I managed to pick up. Lately the only Maxell I've seen is Ritek or CMC. Both seem to be good. The Ritek a bit better I think.

my maxells did check out as ritek, Zo was right, checked it with dvdidentifier, would still have prefferd if they were made by ty's. I also have not seen any brand anymore in any of my local stores blank media made in japan, nada, not in a long time.

The -R's I've seen lately code out as Ritek F1. It's good media in my experience.

yeah I agree, my maxells +r's are not causing me any problems, I have a 18 month sony player, and 3 ancient sony players more than 4 years old, no problem on either, do not know why my nieghbor is experiencing problems on his samsung, and his is only just 3 months old, wierd.

Yeah those were nice but they are not +Rs and that's all I use. Show me the good stuff TY T02s and I'll jump.
@greeny
BTW you could have sold one or two of your drives to fund the discs. I think you have more drives than I have DVD related programs. :) LMAO
would you buy more of the ritek DLs? I haven't done a new DL burn on this pc yet (since May) nothing I've seen worth the verb DL. May get some cheapies to try.

garmoon you is funny if nothing else. :P
For what I paid for the Ritek S04's I would buy some more. I've burned 3 so far on different drives I think and they scanned out ok. NOTHING to write home about and the last one that I posted in the scan thread was the best IIRC. ;) oh... i paid $13.99 for 15 DL discs. ;)

Hi, is it true that Pioneer drives are crap when it comes to quality scans? Because I am not at all happy with the results of my scans...I use TY media only, either the FF printable 8x or Verbatim 16x +R's with the TY dye. After reading up on this site and a few others, have ordered a new Lite-On LH-20A1L.
Also, I live in the UK, so i buy my media from svp.co.uk as they supply genuine TY media. Are there any other suppliers here in the UK?
Once, I was so bored, I ate a loaf of bread!

welcome to AD.
as for the pioneer drives go for scanning. you are correct they are not in the top 5 or so as scanning goes. good burners but not as well with the scans.
you say you just ordered a LH-20A1L.. good choice.there is alot of the LH-20A1S around here and are very good scanners. i myself have one. as well as the resident ODD CHAMP(GM)also the LH-18A1P is a awsome scanner. but it is next to impossible to find those anymore.
when you get your drive make sure it has the newest FW with it.that does make a big difference in the drive.
as for where to get your media. i dont know much about the UK and ordering stuff. there is a bunch of people here from the UK that might be able t opoint you in the right direction. CREAKY on of our mods tends to get them ultra sexy verb/ty disc also. your lucky there.
once you get your drive and want to post some of your scans you get here is a link to the scan thread.

alot of good stuff in there. a wide range of knowledge of disc/drives/programs ect. if you need it, it will be there and if not someone will find it..lol

Please don't refer to me that way. :P ODD chump maybe.. lol.
guardian4 I wouldn't call them crap, they just don't give "proper" results as compared to BENQ's and Lite-On's. lol. As RedRob said you chose a nice little ODD there and it should scan for years to come. lol.
How come you're not happy with your scans?? Is it the drive giving "weird" results? I know that you can use CDSpeed 4.7.5.0 with your Pioneer drives and it does ok. Well it did with my Pioneer 112D series drives. It's about time to get a new one tho... that all important quest for the "perfect" drive. lol. :P
Anyway I'm sure you're using TYG03's or YUDEN T03's so you should be pretty good there. If you can get some TYG02 or YUDEN T02 discs for comparison it would give you a better idea of how the drive is performing. :) Also what speed are you burning at?? 8x, 12x, 16x, 18x, 20x?? That could be a determining factor as well. Normally the TY DVD's can take some "over-speeding" so it doesn't bother me if you're smoking them out at OVER 12x if you have a clean system. :D
NICE job on using TY media!!! docTY would be proud!!!! :D

you know what guys, Plus r's is all i ever used also. but here lately ive used about 40 or so minus R's and have found them to be just as good as the +R's as for scans i have gotten better scans with the -R's i know this is a TY thread but i have about 100+ 16x-R verbs and they are awsome... once i get low again im gonna give the 16x-r TY's a go...
heres a -R scan. sorry its not a TY.

Hi, Thx for the advice! Yes, i did some research regarding the firmware, will be flashing the Lite-On with the C0de King firmware. I had previously flashed my Pioneer drive to a 111L using TDB firmware.

Regarding the scans, the PI failures seem way to high, more than a 100 easily, though the overall score is not less than 95. But I was not sure whether that was ok, coz i have seen a lot of scans, including ones from the legendary DocTY, and most of those have PI values of like 1 or 2.
I use DVD+R media only, so its is the 03 range of TY, though i get confused whether it is TYG03 or Yuden....03.
I used to burn TYG02 media at 4x, with the 16x media, I either burn at 6x or 8x. Is this ok or should I use a different speed?
Strangely, Im not able to use any version higher than 4.5 of Nero CD-DVD Speed! If I use any of the new versions, it just tells me that this drive does not support disc quality scanning.
Oh and I started using TY media after reading DocTY's articles on them only! Prior to reading about all this, I had no idea about the quality of different media, their media codes, etc. I used to just go and buy blanks randomly, although, well known brands only, not the obvious cheap crap! ;-)
Once, I was so bored, I ate a loaf of bread!

when you say PI failures or 100 or more. I'm sure that is total amount not the max? if your max is 100 then you will have problems with that disc.. a total amount of 100 is great.myself i like to see them under 500 to be totally satisfied with the burn. but it don't mean its a bad burn if there is more. just as long as the max isn't that high.
the TYG0x is the minus r media. the YUDEN0x is the Plus R media. if your using the TYG03(8x-r) i wouldn't think twice of burning them @8x even 10x if capable...excellent media i wouldn't worry about burning them any slower.

well you PI failures arent bad at all. thsoe look pretty good for a scan on that drive.
but your PIE(errors) are high.hte max is really high. the max you want to see is no higher than 280 i think it is. your up to 431. thats not good. it might just be the drive and not scaning all that well. were you multi tasking while burning?

OK...I most probably was doign other things, but that would only have been playing music and browsing the net. And also, I have 8GB of RAM on my system. So it is probably the drive only.
