after all the testing (ok that sounds too proffesional, faffing :D) i have done im pretty sure the 4 in 3 out config i have is as good as i can get it. i was just thinking if i swapped the 1.6k fans for 4k delta ones i could adjust them to the point at which the cooling is optimal with out needing to chain my pc down (that was a joke btw) my only real concern is would i be wasting £140 on fans when its about as good as it can get with the 1.6k fans, maybe i should just swap the fan in the cpu heatsink? but would that cool the cpu any better when its reporting below ambeint already for the cpu and only 3c above for the cores?
on the other hand i think it might just be my constant need to faf with my pc that is making me look at new fans as they are the oldest things in my case.
i think i might take up bird watching or somthing to take my mind off it, loads of birds worth watching around town now the sun is out :D

ah its made by martech
sorry posted specs to another fan lol
Note that the [20.jpg]bundled 120mm fan is made by Martech (model DF1202512SELN) which is rated at 0.25A, 3W, 1600rpm and 67cfm max. Since it operates at only 1600rpm, the fan does not make too much noise

so this is good, right?
less rmp = less db?
but more cfm means better cooling?

An interesting mod, but if you had a CPU as good as the Q6600, wouldn't you have a board that could do 1600FSB anyway?
im: 1600rpm is about as high as you want a 7-blade 120mm fan without it becoming obtrusive. For 9-blades it's about 1400rpm.
The largest fan size I recommend using where you still gain with noise to airflow is 140mm, 200mm if your noise tolerance is higher. Essentially what I mean by this is that with 140mm fans you can push out a decent volume of air and it remain quiet, the huge 20+cm fans that seem popular these days don't really push any more air for the same noise level, but at a moderate noise level they can produce a bit more, if you see what I mean.

if i was to OC some DDR2 800. what would be a safe OC on them.
if i use 400mhz for my CPU (3.6ghz) and then the 2.4 multi for the mem. would give me a 960 thats a pretty good OC i would think. but is it safe?

Well it's not so much a question of whether it's safe, it's just if it will be stable or not. Use the correct voltage and see what happens...

2.2v is the required voltage. gotta take it up to +.04to get to the 2.2v no biggy there.i waws just wondering how much is safe before anything bad happens to the mem.
ive done some reading on these sticks also. they are the 16chip instead of the 8chips. but some of the info i have read the 16chips are of lesser quality than the 8chips? well not totaly lesser quality older technology

The mod is really for those people that get the Q6600's from Dell or some other manufacturer for cheap, like my Programming teacher who got is for $500 (Inspiron 530)

Ah right, that makes sense. A $500 PC with a 3Ghz Quad in it... the mind boggles!
Rob: Not sure really, I've had 16-chip sticks since I can remember, the only 8-chip single-side ones were awful...

thats what i thought sam. i cant really remember when talking with crucial they said something about the 1066 sticks not being double sided, but i also think they said something about them being the 16chips i doubt they can get 16chips on 1 side?? maybe i heard them wrong.
as long as i can get them to run with a 3.6ghz OC on my CPU im happy..lol

rob,
just like with other components, the more you overvolt the memory, the hotter it will run.

I had no issues running my G.Skill at 960MHz with the E4300. It wouldn't run that fast with the E6750 and the lower 8x CPU multi! There it seems to run out of gas about 890MHz! Must be the higher fsb affecting things!

Hi,
But, my casing only has slots for 120mm fan.
Do you know of a cheap yet powerful dremel that can cut through the aluminum of my casing? Is it even worth it to cut a bigger hole for a 140mm or a 200mm fan?
-thanks

To be honest, 120s will probably do unless you're after a really quiet PC - you can still get plenty of decent airflow with them.

No, I really don't care about silence. I just want excellent airflow in my computer. I will just stick with 120mms' for now.
thanks for the help sammorris!

Yeah, for the hassle involved, it isn't worth trying to botch an accommodation for a larger fan.

im1992 a few of the 140mm fans come with a "convert" kit to fit 120mm holes. Look at these and see what you think. ;) linky to 140mm fans
Ok per Morty's request, I'll not bring up fans again in this thread. :) here's the fan/cooling thread

I be hauling a$$ now w/ my new build. my DVD-RB/CCE SP times are down to around 50 minutes on average. that includes 3 passes with CCE (I use 3 passes on everything regardless) and building the ISO. that is full disc w/ only previews, adverts and warning screens removed. includes menu, movie and all the extras. my times would most likely be under 40 minutes with only 2 passes and no ISO.
when are those Q9450 quad cores going to be out in full production? I want one now. I'll probably wait until they're in the $300 range.

just for testing, I ran a folder through DVD-RB/CCE SP again except this time only 2 passes with CCE and no ISO. 30 minutes on the nose. that same folder took right at 50 minutes for 3 passes and time to build the ISO. pretty speedy.
