3.4Ghz is about the last easy one. You have to start adjusting stuff properly once you go beyond about 3.45-3.5.

yea i figured i could go to 3.4ghz without adjusting anything. once i get it to the point im gonna take it to 3.6ghz i will take the vcor and mch up just 1 step pass nomal settings. i might not even mess with vcore just then and only mchmight only goto 3.5ghz after 3.4ghz just to see how far i can go under auto settings.

here is some sandra shots. Mips, burn in....

going to run prime95 now.

Auto vcore you may well be fine, manual 1.1625 I don't think will work as high as 3.5.

ok with some help from a friend i am now at this wonderfull speed. it will be left here for a while before i go any higher.
just barely took the vcore up to 1.25v actual volts are 1.184-1.200v still well below it threashold of 1.365. plenty of room to play with.
also took the MCH up to 1.2v from 1.1v

What does changing the MCH from 1.1v to 1.2v do?

More voltage to the chipset - allows it to reach higher FSBs.

if your motherboard becomes unstable - usually you can tell when it's the problem.

Not at all, as long as you're conservative, +0.1V is fine.

Just yesterday I gave XP-Pro another go and so far there's only 1 program I haven't fully solved problems with. Soundtap won't record at all, but NCH says there's a 64 bit driver due out soon. 7Zip and Win rar were a little tricky to learn, but I figured it all out. All of my main programs work, like DVDRB/CCE

Now I did have programs that work now that didn't work the last time I tried 64. Some of the difference is the Dual Boot with 32 & 64, but the number of programs in the current 64 bit folder is growing! I even managed to get my Disc Stakka to work via the search function. Less clicks than when it was displayed as a drive. Now just click on the proggy icon, click search, select your DVD, click eject and play! The countdown works. You can remove any number of DVDs, and when you put one back in the Disc Stakka in you click on which DVD it is from a list that pops up. I rarely ever have more than 3 out at any one time anyway. The 64 is a clean install on a wiped drive and I really like it. A bit quicker than 32 bit. Enough to notice! Thank you Chris!

Best Regards,
Russ

mmm...Russ was you quoting me my friend...i think you sliped and thought is was Rob...I'm the one that's trying out vista ultimate...lol only problem i having so far is with(peer guardian)
I'm having this issue with it
http://filesharefreak.com/2008/04/01/pee...-windows-vista/

Hey bigwill,
Yeah, I boobed. I guess I was tired. The Photo group kind of overwhelmed me! I changed the post!

Best Regards,
Russ

P.S.
You know my feelings on Vista! I'm still loving this 64 bit XP-Pro. It runs everything real nice!

Will: You can try win7 for free, I think the RC is still open - all you need is a windows live account (such as a hotmail email account)
It's funny about the CPU prices - I too can relate, though perhaps a little further back, my Q9550 is the most I've paid for a CPU (I imported it from the US because back then it was the only way to get an E0 stepping) but only just, it cost about £20 more than my X2 4200+ did in June 2006.

oh this bad boy is smokin fast at 3.61gb. i can add plenty of vcore to it still to get more out of it, but i think my mem might be holding me back now, if i try to take it higher. ddr2 800 just isnt gonna cut it. i have it running at 850mhz now i might be able to get thsi crucial stuff to run at 900mhz but not gonna push it..lol i can put in the mushkin mem that i got back and i know that will run at 1066 but am waitng on the new mobo.

Yep, saw that and drooled. But i can cope with my lowly Q6600 performance as i don't backup my DVD's a fraction as much as i used to :)

800mhz is a limiting factor above 3.4Ghz, so to reach 3.61 is reasonably good.

I love the shiny board and RAM and the reasonable cooler with the 1980s looking graphics card :P - with one PCIe slot filled and a P45 chipset you should see a pretty good FSB out of that chip. Right now I'm happy to stick with 3.65 - 3.8 requires a hefty NB voltage that I can't sustain for long.
