Just a quick question, i know that the burn speed affects the success of the backup but does the read speed matter (im using dvd decrypter) and do i just use the default setting?

I used the Ritek GO4 DVD's and have had very good luck with them. I always read at the maximun read speed and then I write at 2x. The GO4 DVD's are rated at 4X. No coasters yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would just like to say hello to everyone and also a big thankyou. I have been reading the last couple of pages and all my questions have been anwsered one way or the other by just reading some of your problems, and the einstein brainiacs who have anwsered them (i'm looking at you hiredgoon).
I myself also was having trouble with DVD Decrypter, but I've found through your anwsers how to successfully burn ps2 games for use with the "Slide Tool"/"Swap Magic" method.
First of all doing "Mode"-"ISO"-"Read", then "Mode"-ISO"-"WRITE" is the quickest and easiest way to burn to harddisk then dvd disk using "DVD Decrypter". Selecting MDS file instead of ISO file when prompted is also the best option. And finally, I think I have the cheapest DVD-R's on the planet, but if you burn them at 4X, then you shouldn't have any problem.
I realise this is my first entry here in this forum, and I have waffled on a bit, but hopefully I hope this step-by-step clears things up for other people who were in the same boat as I was.
Cheers again for the help.
San Andreas here I come!!!!

I've been buying the cheapest DVD-R's I can find.. all no-name brand crap and they all work great.
I've tried +R's and they don't work.
I burn all mine @ 4x on crap crap dvd-r's and no coasters yet.
And for anybody who is about to go out and buy the swap magic dvd loader... look for the newest version, 3.2 It covers versions 1 - 10 of PS2..all of em.

try burning as slow as possible 1 or 2 speed use good dvd disks sony, verbatim or ritek.
it doesnt matter what speed it reads as long as it writes slow youll be ok.
i would try dvd-r disks first.

Hey im a noobie, i have read all of the forums, and geat job by the way, i feel like i know evererything. i have a couple quetions tho, I heard GTA San Andreas is such a big game, data wise that it is put on a dual layer disk(Bigger than 4.7 gig) So i was wondering if that was just a rumor, or if you could make a backup copy on a normal dvd-r (4.7 gig). If somone here has made a backup of GTASA what size DVD-r did you use, and so you know if DVD Decrypter works for GTASA.
I saw that the dual layer dvd-r can hold 8.5 gig.
Thanx for the Smarts
Please anser my question

Hello. I have been having major problems backing up dvd games for my version 4 ps2. I recently purchased and installed the DMS4 Lite ModChip which went smoothly. With the bios that came on the chip I was able to play backed up PSOne games but nothing else. I just reflashed the bios to the Toxic bios and now I can play both PSOne and PS2 CD games but not DVD games. When I try to play a dvd game, it says that there is a disc read error (unable to read disc) or it goes to red screen that says to insert a ps or ps2 format disc (the red screen of death as I like to call it). Also, I nothiced that sometimes when I go to the browser the DVD game will appear but if I click on it either of the two things mentioned above will happen.
Can anyone please help me.
I have tried using all the techniques listed in this forum to burn dvd games but nothing has worked. I have dvd decryptor, Alcohol 120% and Nero 6.0 ultra. I have also tried about 20 of each of the following media (memorex 4x -r, memorex 8x -r, memorex 8x +r, and Verbatim 16x +r.) The burner that I have is the Lite-On 8X +/- DVDR/RW drive.
Please let me know what I can try that I have not done yet. This is getting very frustrating.
Also, Does anyone know of a different bios that is out there besides the Toxic and the official DMS4 Lite that I can use to flash the chip with and see if that works? If so please let me know where I can get them.
Thanks for all your help.
Pease

From what I have read in the forums you can not burn or copy the swapdisc. I purchased one and I belive the post because the bottom of the swap disc has some distinct rings or burns on it. It is hard to explain what it looks like but I have never seen a cd or dvd that looks like that on the bottom. You have to have some way of swapping the swap disc out with the burned game without hitting the reset button. If you dont have the flip top case or the other gadget that helps you swap discs then I dont think you can do it. I sugest buying the flip top case and a swap disc. If you successfully burn the swap disc please post your good luck. I bought mine form www.customps2.com. great servcie. Good luck!!!!!!

I know that you are not sposed to post avertisements but i would like to say that i got a great deal from clearxbox.com they have lots of sweet cases for ps2 and for xbox, i got a white fliptop case and magic swapdisk 3.2 (the latest version) for only $30 plus only $6 shipping total GREAT DEAL
Plus if you didnt know with a fliptop case on a ps2 you dont actually need a swap card because you can open the tip when it is running.

Also (this is my last question) i read on the forums that burrned ps2 games will not work online if you dont patch the dnas code, somone said somthing about a program where you can take the DNAS code of of the disk you are burning and insert it into the ISO if so does anyone know a link to this program so i can start playing my burned backups online.
Plus if you havent heard of D-Skins check them out, they go over the bottom of the disk to keep it from scracting.

okay....
I have figured out what the problem is and now i got it working.
1.) If you have the DMS4 Lite/Pro chip you have to get the TOXiC bios and upgrade your bios to that version 1.0 instead of using the factory bios 0.2 Lite. It seems that the factory put that bios on it intended to run ELF and homebrew programs only as to avoid law problems and charges from the UK.
I have the bios upgrade if anyone needs it.
2.) Make sure that all connections are good and that the ground wire crosses as few wires as possible and that it is bigger then the other wires used. I used 30 Guage for all connections and 22 guage for the ground. Also make sure that the ground is short in length. The shorter the better. Mine is only about 1.5 in. long.
3.) If you make sure of all the above and you are still having problems, do an overhaul on the dvd-rom. I had to tear mine apart and really clean the lens.
After all that you should have no problems.
*Note* when using 30 guage solid wire, be sure to not bend it too much. If you do, it will break internally and you will spend forever, like I did, finding out what the problem could be. Using a multimeter really comes in handy for checking connections when you are done.
Lastly I found that the +R media really doesn't work that well but I have been able to use Verbatim 16X +r with no problems fo far.
The best media that I have found though is the memorex or verbatim 4x -r media. I know that it is really hard to find it with the advent of the 16x burners, but if you can get your hands on it, I really suggest stockpiling it.
P.S. For those that always go to the last post instead of reading all of them, Used the dvddecryptor program to back-up your original ps2 dvd game and use Alcohol 120% to back up your original ps2 or psone cd games. If you get errors, DNAS errors duing some games, you need to get the DISCID utility and IDpatcher utility. I have all of those if you need them. Just let me know.
If you don't know what DNAS is, then read the first few pages of this thread! ;)
Long live mods and those that support them!!!
Remember, as a fellow computer science person that will be programming software for video game industry (see, my engrish is getting there :) ) Do not copy games that you do not own. If you do, there will be no more games. If you like a game, BUY IT! There is a lot of time that goes into making a game and us programmers get paid hardly anything as it is. Ask anyone that works at EA for example!
