Never seen that one man!! Could you explain exactly how you are trying to burn the game. Then maybe we might be able to compare what you are doing compared to how I have. I am not sure of your problem so we have to start off with the basics.

i have been thinkin is there a way to copy ps2 games with out using a mod chip.a few things crossed my mind. nothing solid just a thought. it seems that the games have some type of copyright protection software that does not allow u to play copied games successfully unless u purchase a mod chip of swapmagic in either case your ps2's warranty becomes void if anything was to ever go wrong so that just leads me back to the same question that probably silently echo's in the backs of everyones mind that ever typed on this forum"is there a way to copy my ps2 games without using a mod chip
and from my ever diverse intellectual database on which we call a brain i see a light at the end of that tunnel
i will figure it out, it can be done, those same games are the same sony dvd's in the store its the program that stand's n the way of progress.
where there's a will there's a way!

Hello all, I'm new to this, and I've read and researched alot of info on making PS2 backups, and I have to say the best info I've found this far has been on this site and forum, I just wanted to say thanks, and I just had a few questions tho, First how do I found out what version my PS2 is, Second what mod chip do I need to play my backups, and I would like to share some info, I made 2 backsups of one of my games one on a dvd+r and one on a dvd-r using copy disk with Nero 6.6, I didnt use the dvd copy disk dropdown, I used the cd copy disk and under the copy option tab uncheck on the fly, read option tab Data Tracks check ignore read errors, check write defect sectors, read sectors in raw mode, read all subchannel data. Audio tracks check ignore read errors, Read indexes of audio data, read all subchannel data, Read Media Catalog Number and ISRC, Then the Burn Tab changed write speed to 4x and then Click copy button. The Burnt Game Well not boot up when put into the playstation, but if I start the game with the original disk and then eject the original and put in the copy it well play, so can someone tell me if I buy a modchip and install it well the burnt copy boot up and play

New here and thanks everyone, I've gotten a lot of good information. I have a quick couple of questions.
1) I have made an iso image but I'm wondering what's missing from the original disc that isn't in the iso to burn. Anyone know? And how do I fix this? I would rather not have to go get a mod chip or a swapmagic disc. Obviously they have found out how to burn it properly to get the ps2 to recognize and validate it.
2) The DNA$ file, is that only on games that have internet play or is it on all of them? And is there a way to get the file/number to patch the iso without having the original disc around?(that's what I get for loaning games out)
Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Correction,
The swap disc does void your warranty because you have to remove the little sticker on the side of you PS2. You know, the little sticker that says DO NOT REMOVE or your warranty will be voided.

to use a swap magic disc set, you need either a no solder mod chip or a flip top. It will void your warranty on your ps2, but its not that much to get a new ps2 with a better mod chip.

sorry did not mean to offend wayne t i meant of swap disc and that mod chips cause ur warranty to become non void. as far as copying ps2 games with out a mod chip "OR" the use of swap magic i beleive there is a way wayne "T" especiall if we r talking about using dvd's. why do i believe this, simple as i stated before it is some sort of copy protection script on the ps2 game disc or maybe the ps2 (i don't know i'm scared to open my ps2 i don't have a warranty for this one :-) ) but if my ps2 can read copyied movies there is a way around reading copied games. i feel it has more to do with finding a way to crack that. mod chips are cool i had one when i was 16 for my ps but i refuse to go through the painful trial of putting in a mod chip and worrying if i fuck something up i lose my beloved ps. u all may call me mad crazy, even a diluted nutball but there has to be another way

WTF man the swap magic set does NOT viod your warranty IF you use the SLIDE TOOL.
Quote from the www.swapmagic3.com home page:

Provide Multi-Language menu including: English, Chinese, Spanish, German, Italian, Korea.
Swap Magic 3 can change the colour system (NTSC,PAL) output of the PS2 so that you can play all the NTSC and PAL games.
TOC refresh mechanism.
Enables playing of import games on PS2 (Including support for the latest V7 and v8 boards).
Plays all CD & DVD games. (PS2 Software only, not PS1)
This item requires the use of a no-solder modchip.
More user friendly and Powerful than Action Replay or GameShark 2.
Supplied in DVD case with cover
Works with ALL Models of PS2
((((((Will not Void your PS2 Warranty)))))))
No ModChip For Games to Detect
No internal modifications or ModChips required to boot you backup copies and imports
No extra stress on the laserlens
Absolutely No soldering required - plug and play!
Play CDR & PS2 DVDR backups of PS2 games on your PS2 console

so as i first said it does NOT viod your warranty only when u use the slide tool because you DO NOT need to open the PS2.

Hey I want to back up my PS2 DVD Games and I dont know what DVD Burner to buy. I'm going to get one this weekend. Can all DVD Burners backup PS2 DVD GAmes? Do you think a $50 DVD TDK Burner will do it? (or any other DVD burners that cost less). And I just need a DVD Burner to backup games right? I dont need a DVD ROm Drive right?

OK now that I've got the hang of the new dual-layer DVD +/- R/RW drive (works perfectly every time :D ) I've decided it's about time I backed up a couple of those battered old PS2 games. They still work - just - but you never know...
So, it seems that a slide card / swap magic combo would be a good way to go - is my PS2 compatible though? Where I've looked, it lists 50001 as v9, and compatible, but it doesn't list mine (50002 / PAL).
Is 50002 compatible? I'm assuming it is, but then that's not a safe assumption when I'm ordering something from overseas....
And where's a really cheap place to order the combo from, internationally?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I want to buy the flip top and swap disk, but was wondering what the difference in procedure is for the flip top as opposed to the slide card? Can someone please post a step by step guide as to how to swap the disk with the flip top? I read the guide on how to do it with the slide card, but I'm not familiar with the flip top and I wanna understand what to do before I buy it. It might be really easy and I'm just a moron, but thanks for understanding.

To Wayne_T,
I posted that the swap disc voided the warranty. That is wrong!!! Sorry about that. What I meant to say was the Flip top case voids your warranty. You do have to remove the sticker.
To kenhsiung,
With the flip top case you will put in the swap disc, reset the ps2 with the reset button, it will boot up to a screensaver which says insert disc, then put in the backup game, then press X. That is it.
This is the best way to go. I have not tried the slide card but I bet it is harder than the flip top case!!!!!

i once borrowed a ps2 game from gamestop and the game was burned and it played well on v7 ps2 console. But Everytime i come to ps2 forums they say it cant be played without a modchip or a slide. So my question is how did Gamestop do it. They used a program or something?
