Hi Vicx19,
Sounds like your PC tries to boot from your PS2 HD and failed. How do you connect the PS2 HD to your PC? Through the internal IDE bus or an external USB case? Set your PS2 HD's jumper to "Slave" when connecting through IDE and "Master" when using an external USB closure.
Hope this would work your problem out.

thru IDE. I tried master and slave but I got the same message, how did u guys do it??
do I really have to go thru this whole procedure? all I wanna do is edit the config.dat and put it on the mc. I've already tried sending a few games over using hdl dumb over a network so I don't know what the point of this whole guide is for.

I have successfully installed the MC Exploit.
When I boot my PS2 with PS1 Disc, it establishes FTP with the configuration below:
PS2-IP: 192.168.1.3
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP: 192.168.1.1
I use FlashFXP and connect to 192.168.1.3, and it successfully connects to PS2. I can check/upload files to PS2 MC.
But when I start hdl_dumb and tried to attach to 192.168.1.3, it keeps showing that the drive refuses to connect.
Can anyone help me please?
thanks

Heres a question for you guys!
1. First of all, i can ftp into my hdd on my ps2 thanks to the great explanation thanks to digi-tal! I'm wondering what the three directories are.
There is hdd, mc, and pfs. I assume mc is memory card, and i know hdd, but what is pfs? Also, i view the contents in hdd, and there is a folder called '0' and nothing under it. I have several games on my hdd, where are they?
2. I use Media Player 1.5 to watch divx and play mp3's and view jpgs. What I want to be able to do is to play divx from the hdd! how would you suppose I do that? do I need to basically do what i did to get ftp workin on the ps2, by connecting hdd to comp, and copy an image across containing media player with divx movies in it?
Im not even sure if this is possible, but if it is, it would be great to know! thanks!

Hey guys, I'm running into a weird problem.
When I go into the '0' folder under 'mc' there are no files. I know there should be files there because I'm running ExecFTP, Key Launcher and HDA off of there. The reason I'm trying to connect through ExecFTP is because my HDA seems to be having problems naming and renaming files (so I can't convert games since I can't input a name).
Anyway, using FlashFXP I can see the files on my HD/0/ folder fine, but nothing under MC/0/. Any help would be appreciated and happy belated Thanksgiving. Thanks!

dcdomain: i have the opposite problem to you. i can only access the mc /0 folder. not the hd /0.
i used leapftp, an ftp client to access the memory card just fine. i will try flashxp now to see if i can access the hd.
let u know of the details!

aero77, thanks. I'll try LeadFTP tomorrow (my brother and cousin is sleeping so I don't wnat to wake them up) and post the results. If it's as simple as using two different FTP clients I'm all for it. Damnit if the HD Advance just worked like it was suppose to I wouldn't even have to worry about this right now.

well i still can't access the hd/0 directory even with using flashxp. not sure why, hopefully someone can point it out.
also, im on the lookout for the uncompressed elf file of hdloader/hdadvance. This file is 2.83mb large (2977792 bytes) as specified in this tutorial...
http://www.lookatthemonkeys.com/html/ps2tut2.html
if anyone knows wehre i can find it or if they have it, would it be possible to send me it somehow?
Thanks.

Have you tried the PS2OWNZ.COM/FORUMS ? They have a bunch of files in the sticked thread. I read a post by the administrators at that forum that their HDA files support the large drives, but it won't say version 2.0 when you boot into it. So give it a try...

arrrggh... I can't get the ExecFTP program to run off the PS2. I tried installing the ISO many times with both WinHiip and HDL Dumb. All I get is a black screen. Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?
oh and is there any difference between HDL Dumb and HDL Dump?

aero77, if you can figure out what your exact directory tree is, you can manually call your folders. For example, since I couldn't see my memory card directory, I looked in my KL.DAT file and found the paths.
So I typed in the path I saw in the file, mc/0/BADATA-SYSTEM and the files showed up. Give that a try... I'm not sure what your HD directory is like though.
