Hello,
Before going any further,I would like to know how much time it will take to HDDUMB to upload a 4Gb game to the PS2, using a cross-link cable (that's 10mb spped right?). 1 hour ? less ? it takes me about 20 minutes to attach the hd to my pc and copy the 4gb to it with winhiip.
thank you,

over the cable it can take up to 70mins at 0.8mb/s. but most likely around 55-65mins. its probably quicker to connect the hdd to pc and copy across if you have many games to send. although constantly connecting and disconnecting the hdd from the ps2 --> pc and back can be quite frustrating.
as i said before, if anyone knows how to make the transfer over the cable run at speeds around 5mb/s and up could you plz post, thx!

I got to step 4 and it went without too many problems, i need a crossover cable. I have a question though. I want to swap my 250GB PS2 HDD with my 160GB xbox hard drive. I bought a 200GB drive for my PC to hold the games. I just want to FTP into my PS2 drive and copy the games to my pc. Can this be done with any of the FTP software available? Thanks for your help

I also have the same problem as stated above by ikwildat, posted on dec 2, 2004, which has still not yet been resolved.
Everytime I connect to the PS2, no matter how many refreshes or home directories I try, I am unable to see the 3 folders that I am expecting to see. The ftp server does respond, it does connect, but flash will fail on listing the directory.
I also get the error "500 unable to open directory"

I am having a similar problem with a few people on this. The red screen keeps on appearing, I am using HDL_Dump 0.7.3 with its elf file, I can get through all the steps except for inserting my ps1 disc into my ps2, and instead of getting to the HDL_dump network screen I get the red screen. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem. I have read some previous ones, but still haven't figured out this problem. Thanks in advance

Never mind, i fixed the Red Screen problem, all you have to do is put the boot.elf file in all caps "BOOT.ELF" when you rename it to that. This was previously stated in this forum, but now I have a problem connecting with the HDL dumb, when i edit the address on the GUI version and try to "attach" it gives the the following message "BAD APA Parition Table" does any one know what is wrong now. Thanks in advance

Nevermind again. I fixed this problem, wasn't thinking at the moment when it occured, all I had was a corrupted partition for one of the games on my PS2 hard drive, so I just erased them, and then everything worked, thanks for a great tutorial, and all the other posts. Just a little note, the transfer speed isn't great, mine is running at about 0.7mb/sec but it is better than disconnecting and reconnecting to my PC, thanks again.

I managed to use hdl_dump/hdl_dumb on an unmodified PS2 through a LAN as follows:
Stuff:
PS2 w/ PS2 Memory Card, Network Adapter and Hard Drive
HD Loader
Datel X-Port
hdl_dump/hdl_dumb
Address: http://hdldump.ps2-scene.org/
Files: hdl_dumb-0.7.3.zip and hdl_dump-0.7.3.zip
PS2 eXploit Made Easy
Address: http://ps2dev.org/kb.x?T=863
File: ps2xme090b.zip
One of the 600 PS1 games listed by ?PS2 eXploit Made Easy?
PS2 Save Builder
Address: http://www.ps2savetools.com/download.php?op=viewdownload&cid=1
File: Ps2_Save_Builder_0.8x.zip
1)Obtain the PS2 Network Configuration.
Use the PS2 Network Adapter Start-Up Disk to run:
a)(This step only required if your PS2 is not already configured fro online play.)
ISP Set-up
Local Area Network (LAN)
Automatic Configuration
Test Settings
Save
b) Advanced
Network Tools
Connection Test *
The Network Configuration for the PS2 will be displayed at the conclusion of the Connection Test. Record the IP Address, Netmask and Default Router.
* If you are already connected, you will first have to run the Disconnection Test
2)Modify the ?PS2 eXploit Made Easy? to include the server for hdl_dump/hdl_dumb.
a) Select the proper Memory Card Save File from ps2xme090b.zip. As I have U.S. Playstation and am using the Datel X-Port to transfer the save, I used the file ?BADATA-SYSTEM.xps?
b) Use ?PS2 Save Builder? to modify the Memory Card Save File for hdl_dump/hdl_dumb as follows:
Extract the file IPCONFIG.DAT from the Save File.
Delete the file IPCONFIG.DAT from the Save File.
Edit IPCONFIG.DAT using notepad to include your IP
Address, Netmask and Default Router. (Delete the second line from the file.)
Add the modified IPCONFIG.DAT back into the Save File.
Add hdld_svr.elf into the Save File.
Save the modified Save File.
3)Use Datel's X-Port to transfer the modified Save File to the PS2 Memory Card.
a) Install the X-Port Driver and Software following the manufacturer's instructions.
b) Place the modified Save File into X-Port's Save File Directory.
(C:\Program Files\Datel\XPort 2\Savedgames)
c) Transfer the modified Save File to the Memory Card following the manufacturer's instructions.
4)Start hdld_svr.elf on the PS2.
a) Start the PS2MENU by starting the PS2 using the Memory Card and the PS1 game. (Ignore any error messages referring to HD Loader File partitions.)
b) (This step is only required one time.) Use PS2MENU to copy the file IPCONFG.DAT from the Folder to the Folder ?SYS-CONF?
Display the contents of the Memory Card: Press R1 to display the ?Select device? menu, highlight ?mc0:? using the D-pad, then press X.
Navigate to the root folder by highlighting ?..? and pressing X until a list of folders including ?SYS-CONF? is displayed.
Highlight the folder ?SYS-CONF? and press Triangle.
Display the Contents of the folder ?BADATA-SYSTEM?, by highlighting it and pressing X.
Highlight the file IPCONFIG.DAT and press Triangle.
c) Highlight the file hdld_svr.elf (also in the folder ?BADATA-SYSTEM?) and press X.
5)Run hdl_dumb (the windows interface) to Add or Delete games from the PS2's hard Drive.
After starting the program, enter the PS2's IP Address where indicated and click Attach.
6)Run hdl_dump (the DOS interface) to Extract games from the PS2's hard drive.
Create one .BAT file to list the PS2's Table of Contents:
hdl_dump toc {PS2's IP Address}
pause
Create a second .BAT file to extract a game:
hdl_dump extract {PS2's IP Address} ?{game name from the toc}? ?{Drive:path/file name}?
pause
Ex: hdl_dump extract 192.169.2.22 ?PP.HDL.Alien Hominid? ?C:/Alien Hominid.ISO?

I don't *think* I saw anyone else with this problem. I have everything up and running but when I transfer files to any of my HDD partions (after mounting them), FlashFXP says it successfully transfered the files but upon reboot of the PS2 the files are NOT there. I can transfer to my memory card just fine. Also I was able to transfer to the hard drive yesterday before my memory card was wiped out by ARMAX so I know the setup can work. Any ideas?
EDIT--Little side question, is there any program that can actually read USB flash devices? I've tried PS2OS, LaunchELF and KeyLauncher and NONE of them work as they claim. PS2OS & LaunchELF don't even try to access it and read it as blank while KeyLauncher freezes.

Not too clear on this command
Download titleman from PS2 Independance and extract to your c:/ drive.
Open command prompt Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt and type 'cd \' to get to c:/> and type 'titleman -c' to create TITLE.DB and then type 'titleman -a SLES_008.44'
SLES_008.44 should be repalced with the ID of your PS1 game. Found if you open the disk in explorer.
Go and find the TITLE.DB file on your c:/ drive and copy it. Now go to the folder you extracted hdl_dumb 0.7.3 into and select paste.
Rename the hdld_server.elf to BOOT.ELF.
does the PS1 game need to be in your PS2? or in the computer? Just not too clear

Step 3 - Install the hdl dumb server
Go back to FlashFXP where you should still have a connection to your PS2. In the left hand window select your hdl dumb folder. In the right hand window select 'MC > 0 > BEDATA-SYSTEM'.
Now copy BOOT.ELF & TITLE.DB from the left window to the right. Disconnect the FTP.
