You wanna know how to make a perfect backup when its using the new protection. 3 Programs i used are anydvd DVD Decrypter and dvdfab. Make an iso using decrypter then use dvd fab and have it read the iso and let it make 2 iso from it then use Nero to burn. Makes a perfect backup using no compression

I also used the altest version of DVD Decryptor and was able to decrypt The Forgotten. My problem was using DVD2One. That didnt seem to work at all for me on this 1 movie?? I used DVDFAB express and was able to make a good abckup of the movie!

These new branded DVD are simple to decipher once you wrap your head around the problem. I give kudos to all the people that have managed to, in some way, get backups of the movies coming out in the now. However, as I see things, most are looking for a quick fix from without (i.e. updated software) instead of within (thinking about the problem at hand!) I will go out on a limb by saying ALL of you have every piece of software you will ever need to break the copy protection schemes from now until the movie industry changes the format completely! AND its already setting on your hard drives. Bold statement but true none the less. I will proceed to give you my example of how I cracked the code on Forgotten since this is the thread topic. Maybe it will help someone out there solve their problem. Someone has already told you all the solution to the NEW protection setup and I don't think anyone really listened. These new disks are broken by the manufacturers to simply slow you down. So Xcopy doesn't do it for you now? Not by itself it won't anymore. So let's get on with the show shall we?
You have to find out what program will read the disk as a whole. For me that proggy was "Super DVD Copy." And YES it does error out on the last bits if the disk at about 22 seconds to completion. This however is not a problem. The problem NOW lies within HOW SDVD copy authors the disk. To those people getting errors in Decryptor (or not), don't worry! Decryptor can generally read that which cannot be read by other programs which brings me to step 2. Use Decryptor to read any sectors that didn't get copied within your favorite ripper, which in my case was SDVD copy. Get the entire contents of the disk onto your hard drives. This gives you a complete copy of the disk without CSS protection. However, the authoring of the disk IS screwed so we must create a usable ISO now. Step 3. I used "CloneDVD 2" to create an ISO file of the contents taken from the Forgotten movie. This NOW gives me a re-authored image of the movie on disk to begin the ripping process all over again, but this time the wait is much shorter. Step 4, using "Alcohol 120%," I then generate a virtual drive and mount the image to the drive. Last but not least, Step 5. Whip out the old Xcopy Express. It will recognize the virtual drive as a DVD player with a movie in it (how about that?), and will ask if you wish to do a straight burn without having to wait. I, always choose no because I need the time to remove the Xcopy start-up watermark (thats for another thread) and proceed to rip (just the movie) and burn without error. Imagine if you will ripping and burn a backup within 20 minutes. THATS fast by my calculations.
The reason I prefer xcopy over shrink is the compression protocals in that program is almost transparent if non-existant for a backup of just the movie. Shrink is simply ugly IMHO in a side by side visual test.
The point is this... The movie industry is getting smarter. We as a community are not because we wait to be spoon feed the solution (xcopy one-click style) when you already have the answers, even if it is broken up into several different parts.
The method I just described copied RE2 as well. Little Black Book is not my type of movie so I'll pass on that one. But keep in mind... If the MPAA want to change the game... ADAPT! They have to keep these disc in a certain format to work on legacy equipment (old DVD players). Nothing they can do (at least right now) will stop you from backing up your library (or Blockbuster's :) as some have stated) if you really want it. Your kung-fu is strong! Use it!
That's my .02 cents
Peace
The answer is not in the box...It's in the band!

i successfully back up the forgotten (the movie is not that great though) by using DVD Decrypter only. However when i play it, there are several scences, the player just skips like the end of that scene then jump to the next one. I think this is where DVD Decrypter inserted the "dummy files" in it

hi. new to forum but have always found good help here. i have always used dvd x copy xpress for its simplicity . recently i have had the same problems as the rest of you with little black book, the forgotten and cat woman , seems any sony/columbia tristar release has these bad sector protection errors early in the read process. on a whim i downloaded the newest version on anydvd . inserting the dvd the program automatically removes the bad sectors , region code and standard copy protection, a summary screen displays informing you what has been removed , then i click continue , THEN i launch xpress and use it as per normal...... viola copied each one flawlessly . no muss no fuss , no three programs . any other x copy users should try this ,as long as you don't launch x copy until anydvd has completed it's tasks it should work.

If you have the newest version 3.5.2.0.of Dvd Decrypter and you use DVD Shrink 3.2 and you of course had burning software such as Nero 6, you will be able to fully backup The Forgotten "WITHOUT ANY ERROR'S"! This includes the alternate ending portion as well. I backed this up this morning, and have now watched both versions, without any problems in any chapters. If you see a glitch then it must be your burner or DVD media. For example, my new burner does not like Memorex 4x media, (leaves nasty pixel problems,) but will burn Sony 8x-R "SONY08D1" at 16x without any problems. It also likes the cheap stuff, Legacy 8x-R, and burns it just fine at 8x.

I had no problem with Decrypter and Shrink. I thought I had a problem but it turned out to be about 60 seconds of black screen prior to start of movie. I did limit mine to the longer of the 2 movies on the DVD. Got no menu but that was ok. The way the 2 movies are in the same VOB on the original DVD might cause a problem but Shrink seperated them out and gave me a choice of which I wanted. All should make sure they have the most current software update for whatever they use.

shrink seems to have turned into a memory hog. It keeps saying paging file too small when I try and encode forgotten with it. And then it maxes out and just stops at 42%. I went into the control panel and upped my pagin file size...and it still maxes it out.

Ive said it once, twice, three times and here i go again.
The easiest sure fire way with no problems to burn any dvds that have the latest encryption is:
1)Elbys/Slysoft CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD
2)Must have latest releases, because those are the ones with the latest decryption code
Follow these and u will be guaranteed a wonderful dvd cloning experience
EASY TO INSTALL = Difficult to install, but instruction manual has pictures.

dear dusterguy - just a guess but if evrything was working fine until you switched from Fuji media to DVD recordables ? as you called them and then the new backups you made will not play back on your dvd player! sounds like your new media/recordables are not compable with your player! When you changed to the new media or recordales as you called them did you change just brands like from fuji to sony or whatever or did you change formats as well like from DVD-R to DVD+R media as some dvd players will not playback DVD+R movies ! If your player was made recently say the last couple years that should'nt be an issue.as on of our fellow afterdawn members once said dvd players nowadays will play a cheese pizza provided the mozzarella isn't too thick!!! lol! Try using another brand of media and see if you still have the problem. Or you could go back to using thr Fuji media ( the fuji 's made in japan= look under the upc barcode on the spindle - are usually TAiyo Yuden made and are excellent disc )verbatim media is also very good . Hope I was of some help friend let us know if you get things straight ! Afterdawn.Com is a good place to learn & share ideas & a great community of friendly people all much wiser than I , who will help all they can so that you & I & everyone can get the most out of our hobby - peace happy burning & good luck

For what it's worth, I have found that some of these tricky movies have several minutes of black space in the beginning. I remove this with Shrink in re-author mode before I start to encode. Seems to work.

OK, I got it to work (after I don't know how many attempts). I used Decrypter in ISO mode to rip file to the HD, then mounted it using Daemon. Then I used Decrypter again in File mode to rip off of Daemon drive. That in return I burnt using DVD X Copy Express RF. Played the DVD on three different players now, no problem.
PS. You will get notified by Decrypter that it is inserting the bogus sectors.
