I 21:59:03 Destination Folder: C:\DVD_VIDEO\VIDEO_TS\

Try removing the folder above in your hard drive first, start with a clean boot, then try it again. Or also try a different folder that you create and select in DVD Decrypter.

I know this isn't really the principle of trying to back this movie up, but if you see this movie like me I was more on the lines of shredding it more than backing it up after watching it, buying this movie was money well wasted for me. "Just My Two Cents"

dusterguy Glad all is well on the dvd front now . And no unfortunately not all DVD-R & DVD+R media is the same just as not all dvd burners are the same . most dvd burners are set at the factory to record well on a list of several brands or more of media. this does'nt mean they will not record well on other media just that the media may not match the factory settings ( called Firmware) you might notice that say your 8X dvd-r media will only burn at 4X on one burner and yet burn at 8X on another. This has happened to me with Philips 8X dvd-r media it records well but on at 4X on my nec 2500A but will record at 8X on my nec-3500 equally well !AS long as you stay with branded (name brand) media I dont think you'll have any troubles. There are inexpensive media that are high quality on line but the trick to finding them is to check postings if you can find them here or on the web by people with the same DVD burner that you have and see what they've got good luck using. check your drives mfr. website it may have a list of compatible media also. the various online stores newegg.com/supermediastore/meritline.com/rima.com may have listings of the media that they sell and which burner that they are most compatible with. My best advice when buying media online especially if its media you have'nt already tried & or from a vendor you've never used before is to buy the minimum quantity of media of the brand /type you are thing about stocking up on and try those first . some dealers may send you a sample disc or three for free if you ask them or like meritline they may offer sample packs at a minimum cost like $3.75 for two disc in a dvd case. and keep on reading & researching both here & elsewhere on the web . You'll learn more and more and be able to seperate the wheat from the chaff when shopping for gear or media and not just be buzzworded or hi pressured in to buying something becuase the sales clerc says it's good. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. If you do find a knowledgeable salesperson great going give them your bussiness if the price is right. and ask questions because more often then not one of our other fine Afterdawn.com buddies has had the same problem too and already found a solution or three . Well my friend & friends sorry for getting keyborard diarrhea and running oof at the fingers. much sucsess and luck with all your burns -KIRK OUT -PEACE

Regarding the movie The Forgotten, I didn't have any trouble. I use DVD43 to remove css and others and then use 1ClickDVDCopy4.1 to compress and burn,I have not had any trouble burning anything out there..

VobBlanker went through the entire movie, ?The Forgotten?, as usual but when DVD Shrink was started, you could see tons of pixel errors with viewing enabled, to the point where those errors caused DVD Shrink to stop during the analyzing, never getting to it's encoding process. By using DVD Decrypter version 3.5.2.0 along with DVD Shrink, everything worked perfect, including both versions of the movie. So I feel that DVD Decrypter, VobBlanker, DVD Shrink, and Nero6 Ultra all have their place. For example I found it easier to use VobBlanker when I tried to backup RE2, even though DVD Decrypter just needed to have a text file imported to handle RE2 correctly. Most of the time DVD Shrink works just fine by itself with Nero6 and I always use highest compression settings under Custom Compression for everything but the main movie, also un-checking the unwanted foreign audio files, etc. so as to leave the most quality/least compressed space available for the main movie.

Just my opinion but:

DVD Shrink=Excellent & Free
DVD Decrypter=Excellent & Free
VobBlanker=Excellent & Free
Nero6 Ultra=Excellent & A few bucks.

***BUD***

I figured it out it was the auto insert notification that did it. Also if you use AnyDVD (to remove the css) make sure it is running before you use DVD Decrypter. You have to make a ISO file/ image and i burnt it with Nero Exspress.(that worked great) Another thing i noticed is that if most dont notice there are two dvd's on the one Theatrical and alternate ending. You have to create two DVD's unless im a retard.

If anyone can figure it out let me know?

Everything on the original "The Forgotten" is also on the DVD that I burned with the exception of foreign audio. I only kept all english versions. This included both versions of the movie. Give it a try with these tools especially since they are both free. :)

I am a novice at DVD "backing up". I don't have time to sit around and run 3 or 4 programs to make a copy. I own DVD X Copy Platinum. I made a backup copy of Borne Supremacy without any problem (from other posts, there have been problems with this movie). Now, I'm working on the Forgotten. I've tried running AnyDVD and DVDRegionFree before Xcopy Express, with no luck. Has anyone been able to use XCopy Express on the Forgotten? If so, what program was used to get around the new encription? I am running XP Home on a Dell Deminsion 2400, 256 meg RAM, Sony DRU-710A, and have TDK, HP, and Memorex +R disks.

Thanks for any "simple" help and explanations!

mr. wes - I know this goes somewhat against your post but you might want to consider downloading DVD Shrink & DVD Decrypter if you have;nt already done so . The cost is minimal -(FREE) and these two programs can be used seperately or together and will allow you to burn most movies without problems . Having recently backed up the forgotten if I remeber correctly I had to use decrypter first then DVD Shrink in order to compress it down enough to fit on a single dvd-r disc . Ithen burned it with Roxio dvd builder. I know you like DVDX copy platinum as you mentioned it in your posting & it is an excellent program but I don.t beleive they'll be updating it anymore since loosing the court case. DVD Decrypter & DVD Shrink are updated fairly regularly as new copy protection come out. Just something to think about my friend. Use whatever works for you ! That's my motto! hope this helps out a little- try it uou'll like it peace!

I have DVDXCopy and it probably will not copy "The Forgotten" or any other DVDs with this type of encryption -it will lock-up and show the DVD as having errors (I tried it on another movie). As BIGTOXY69 said, you will probably have to download DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to do it (or other programs). You might want to go back through and read the entire thread to see what other people have used (I would recommend this to anyone coming along at the end- you might find the answer to your question on previous pages). I sometimes spend hours making DVDs from home movies, etc., and rarely is it a quick process (I also felt the same as you when I started out copying movies). Many of us have had success by ripping the movie to the hard drive with DVD Decrypter and then compressing with DVDShrink and burning with another program (I use Nero 6 Ultra Edition but you can probably burn with DVD Decrypter). Some people have mentioned that this movie was not worth the trouble, but I think what most of us are doing is finding a solution that will work when the next movie like this comes along. I will mention for those who are just starting to download and/or use DVD Decrypter, the programmer has a page where you can donate to the program so he can continue to make improvements and I think it is well worth it http://www.dvddecrypter.com (hope this does not violate any forum rules to mention this)

Use AnyDVD v4.5.6.2 ....load it ...reboot...and it will remove any CSS and region coding from your dvd burner and or player !

Only a 21 day demo....

Get it at ....

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/anydvd.cfm

Use DVDShrink 3.2 and it will cut throught it like "butter"....notice the "Not Encrypted" text in the analyzing and backup modes....!!

4 stars for AnyDVD v4.5.6.2 !!!

Most of us have a burning software such as Nero6, etc. which can burn uncopy protected DVD's. I also purchased when it first came out, DVDxCopy Platinum. It worked fine until the new encryptions came out and used on movies like RE2, The Forgotten, etc. These programs mentioned here used together is like:

AnyDVD,(always running in the backround!)+ DVDShrink + Nero6 or equivalent = DVDxCopy Platium on Steriods!

Just try them once and you?ll see. The copies won?t have the 321 disclaimer and best of all, will work on just about any DVD player. DVDxCopy burns would not work on my wife?s combo drive in her Dell 5600 Laptop. Now they do using DVDShrink!

Syxx_Nyne, Dusterguy, Bigtoxy69, and others...

I appreciate your comments and suggestions. Actually, I have read this full post, as well as many others in my attempts to get something to work. If I was only copying 1 or 2 movies, running 3, 4, or 5 programs (2-3.5 hours) would be acceptable. I have almost 900 movies that I am backing up, as well as new ones that I get almost daily. That's why I would like to find the "one-click" programs.

I tried DVD Decrypter, CloneDVD, Dvdxcp4, VobBlanker, Alcohol120, and a few others. A couple of times I thought it worked, only to find that it wouldn't play in any of my 3 DVD players.

Last nite, I tried DVDFabPlatinum26. They claim to have the new encription solved. It is a single-click program! (Yea!) It took about 1.5 hours to copy the Forgotten. Now, the weird thing is it will work in one of my 'cheap' Sony DVD/VCR combo sets, but not in my 'better' JVC DVD player. Just when I thought I had something..... <grin>

I do know that DVD X Copy will never be updated. I've had a few conversations with their Canadian offices. Maybe I can get this DVDFab to work better with one of the pgms like AnyDVD or something running in the background. I'm sure that someone, somewhere, will streamline this process for the new encription.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback and info!

i agree with you 100%
my first software i though i was at a dead end because i couldnt "back up my home movies" or should i say the movies i brought home and then there was dvd x copy and
i was in heaven. then i stumbled onto DVD Shrink and and i just couldnt get any better and then there was anydvd
i could now make mulitpal copies as needed "in case i scratch one or two"

some people still like dvd x copy and if you still like dvd x copy and you want to get rid of the back up logo on the front then google "321GONE" its free

Trouble with some movies like 'Forgotten' is the css protection. I downloaded a free trial of the software 'Any DVD' and it automatically removes protection when dvd is loaded into your drive. From there you use the backup program of your choice.

You are correct re: Shrink and Decrypter locking up. Download the new version of decryter (jan 2005) and it will work. Then use Nero to recode and burn. Will take about 3 hours total. The next version of Shrink will probalby solve this problem.

3 hours is alot of time, I rip and burn in about 35-40min. I use DVD43 in the background and 1Click DVD copy to compress and burn and like I said in earlier threads I've never had any problems.....

To wesreeves:

For most movies, DVD Shrink is pretty quick. I use Shrink or DVDXCopy depending upon whether or not I want a menu or other features. Because Shrink has a preview feature, I use it first, then either compress with it and burn with Nero or do the entire movie with DVDXCopy. Once you have Shrink set up with a burner, the process is basically automatic. There are only isolated cases where you will need to rip a movie with Decrypter first, and that is when you have one of these movies like "The Forgotten" with encryption containing errors (another anti-copying device). What you might want to do is to use DVDXCopy for the majority of your movies and another program for those problem movies. A lot of people use AnyDVD, unfortunately, it crashes my system, so it is not an alternative for me. If you want to get rid of that watermark at the beginning, use 321 Gone as someone else suggested - it removes the disclaimer at the beginning.

I made a backup of The Forgotten using the new version of Decrypter, DVD2One and Nero. My problem is that I have about three or four min. of black screen before the movie starts. Once the movie starts it looks good and is complete. Any body know why I am getting the black screen at the first or how to get rid of it?
