I have Elby/Slysoft AnyDVD and CloneDVD, together they work about 90-95% of the time. I also use DVDFab and DVD Decrypter. I didn't have any problem with AVP, The Forgotten, Resident Evil.

The Grudge was a little tricky but DVD Decrypter go all the filed needed with a couple of complains at the very end. I then used Nero Recode to recode the main movie. Burned with Nero Burning Rom and tested in two DVD players, both played fine. I have NEC ND-2500.

This one took awhile to figure out for me but this is what i did just to get a backup copy of the movie with no menus or extra stuff. i used the the new DVD Decrypter. went to the submenu used edit and then selected main movie files + ifo's. then i used DVD2One went through that process when i got to the menu with all the cells deselect the first 10 cells then it will process and your ready to burn. i got a great burn with no dead air and in total it took about 9min to decrypt and about 17min to process

I thought that I would jump in and say that I haven't found anything that I couldn't back up now that AnyDVD has upgraded their software. I still use DVD X-Copy Platinum. I threw away the Sony burner, and bought Plextor's new dual-layer burner. I also have a DVD-Rom (generic brand). Single click copies, and I don't have to wait around to use multiple software packages. My copies are as good as the originals. On rare occassions I get the little boxes like when digital signals get scrambled, but those are few and far inbetween. I might get this once for a second or two, on every 5th or 6th movie.

I did find some interesting fixes to make the DVD's copy faster. Make sure that in Device Manager, the IDE channels are in DMA mode, and not PIO. This changed my read times from about 60-70 minutes, to 11-15 minutes.

All the "free" programs are nice, if you have time to run all of them. I like starting AnyDVD, putting in The Forgotten, clicking on DVD X-Copy Express and walking away. 20 or so minutes later, the new movie is done.

An interesting side note: I was able to copy the Grudge before I got AnyDVD. I'm not sure why that happened. From the posts I've read, people have been having problems copying it.

Okay before I get my butt reamed for posting in the wrong spot or something. I am a total Newbie to posting here, I'll freely admit it..LOL...so bear with me please!!!

Anyway I am having a problem with The Forgotten and with Little Black Book. Before I even posted I did at least download AnyDVD to run with my XCopy Xpress I am running, after readin the posts here. Here is the information I get with AnyDVD:

Little Black Book:
Summary for drive F:
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (parallel)

Video DVD (or CD) label: DVD_VIDEO
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!

RCE protection not found.
Found & removed wrong DVD structure!
Found & removed structural copy protection (Arccos, Puppetlock)!
Found & removed Autorun from Video DVD!
Found & removed 3 bad sector protections!
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

The Forgotten:
Summary for drive F:
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)

Video DVD (or CD) label: DVD_VIDEO
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1 3!

Found & removed RCE protection!
Found & removed wrong DVD structure!
Found & removed structural copy protection (Arccos, Puppetlock)!
Found & removed Autorun from Video DVD!
Found & removed 2 bad sector protections!
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

Both of them are getting further when running AnyDVD then they were just by running XCopy by itself. I was getting I/O errors at 16% with both. Now they both get to 55% read and the program craps out. Columbia is making this a pain in the Anal Sphincter for sure. Anyway Im not totally up to speed on all the jargon your using, but Im a fast learner and im not totally dumb either (I know what DMA..etc is)...Anyway if someone can tell me if I am missing a setting in AnyDVD or something. Or tell me exactly in Barney terms what I need to download and the exact steps that need to be taken...that would be friggin Awesome..LOL

Thanks
Abs

Try DVDShrink/DVDDecryptor or Nero6 or CloneDVD2 as suggested throughout this thread and others.

ScifiG,

I just recorded the Little Black Book today. I normally use XCopy myself, but this file seemed to be harder than the Forgotten. XCopy, with AnyDVD in the background, works fine for the Forgotten. I found out that DVDShrink/DVDDecryptor won't work by themself for the Little Black Book, as others keep saying. I had to run AnyDVD first, then DVDShrink/DVDDecryptor worked fine. Give that a shot.

K people there are only 4 things you should have on your computer to burn these and any other dvd
1. Any DVD
2. DVD-Decrypter
3. DVD Shrink
4. Nero

*** Get the most recent versions.

ok with dummy sector movies ie, black book and the forgotten. make sure all are installed. open DVD Decrypter and copy to a iso. This will take the dummy sectors out. Ten use DVD Shrink to copy it to a cd. If you want more than one copy remember the target output folder and open Nero 6.0 or above and select make dvd using dvd files. select and place all files in that directory in the video ts folder provided oce done you can make as many as you want. And please read the post before posting stupid questions on it. They were all exsplained.

I would use anywho and dvdshrink. It will get around the encryption. That error you are getting is becuase the program is seeing a fake error in the dvd like it scratched. Its sony's new encryption. Anywho removed it, dvdshrink with Nero will burn it
