hi guys, im a noob to this and i hav a few questions, where do i change to book type in DVD Decrypter and Nero burning rom, is a princo DVD-R disc (4x) good enuf media to make the rebuild of the game work? thx guys
@david_v91

Are you serious? I know that soon or later someone (a noob) will come and ask me how to "Book Type", therefore, I've provided the super easy steps by steps on how the set the "book type" or "bitsettings" on both Nero Burning Rom or Nero Express and DVD Decrypter already.

You can find how to set the "book type" settings with Nero on the very 1st page, and "book type" settings with DVD Decrypter on the 2nd page at the very top.

Seriously, no offense here, but I don't think Princo are high quality media. It's no in my book of media, the only media I'll allow to burn on my burner are: (1) Taiyo Yuden, (2) Maxell (High Grade by Hitachi, made in Japan), (3) Verbatim "advanced azo or datalife plus". However, the choice is yours.

UPDATED 12-30-2005: a full guide on rebuilding "MATRIX PATH OF NEO" included (fully working backup).

@Sticker

Here is a completed guide on how to rebuild "MATRIX: Path Of Neo". Believe it or not, I did a straight up ripped with DVD Decrypter and burned it with Nero Express on my other backup and it played flawlessly. However, I just want to rebuild "PATH OF NEO" using my "rebuilding method" and see what's the differences -- basically, there's really nothing except the "rebuild version" is 3.55GB and the straight ripped and burned is 4.37GB. Overall, both copies plays smoothly on my PS2 v9.

**Tools needed**

<> DVD Decrypter
<> ISO Buster Pro 1.8 or ISO Buster
<> CD DVD GEN 1.5
<> Gnie's IML2ISO version 4
<> Nero

***STEP 1***

Rip MATRIX PATH OF NEO (or PS2 game ISO) with DVD Decrypter

***STEP 2***

Extract the ISO or files with Iso Buster

Once ISO Buster is completed, just MINIMIZE to the taskbar.

***STEP 3***

Generate the Game or IML file with CD DVD GEN 1.5

Now open up CD DVD GEN 1.5

***STEP 4***

Rebuild your IML into ISO using Gnie's DVD IML2ISO version 4

Now open up Gnie's DVD IML2ISO

***STEP 5***

Burn your final ISO with Nero Express, Nero Burning Rom, DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn. Use whatever burning engine you're more experiences with. For MDS file, I prefer DVD Decrypter, but for PS2 ISO, I prefer Nero Express or Burning Rom because Nero will "automatically" change the "Book Type" into DVD-ROM for me. Thus, making my backup looks more original. Again, in this guide, I will use Nero Burning Rom. On my next guide, I will be using DVD Decrypter.

Now open up Nero StartSmart and choose Nero Burning Rom.

That's it.... enjoyed it and Happy New Year. *NOTE: I've tested both of my backups and they both plays flawlessly. However, if anyone "rebuild" or ripped it and burned straight back on a DVD-R or DVD+R and is having troubles loading/playing, then it is obvious that there is something wrong with your PS2 laser, or it's the media you're using.

No. Booktyping just gives DVD+R's better compatiblilty with most stand alone DVD players and older PS2's. You still need some type of mod to play PS2 backups.

1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.

2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544

3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or

Hmmmm... don't quote me on XBOX -- obviosuly, I don't have/own any XBOX console. So, I can't comment on that part. Like my buddy Tokijin said, you might want to try the XBOX forum instead.

I've noticed that Apache 2 can extract the second layer, but is there even a point in doing that? I rebuilt other DVD9 games with iso buster and the games work just fine. This tutorial didn't seem to cover anything for the second layer, so I'm assuming that the second layer's not important.

Of course you need to extract the second layer. The game won't be complete if you don't. Matrix Path of Neo isn't a DVD-9 game. Check Alkohol's DVD-9 to DVD-5 guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/275350#1562177

Ok,rebuilding ,get it,cool, but still what i dont get is when you rebuild what are you taking out? so the game is 4.3gb iguess you have to take something out or is the rebuild game plays exactly as the original? if so is there a way to shrink or reduce quaity in videos or so so you have the same game just with lower quality videos?

You don't take anything out of games you rebuild. If you're using Swap Magic, then you need to overwrite dummy files if they are present. When shrinking a DVD-9 game to DVD-5, you take out extra features, movies, and dummy files.

For GT4 you'll need Apache 2 to do the job, in order to get it right. You can either use Apache 2 or ISO Buster to extract the ISO. I could have used Apache 2 in my guide, but I used ISO Buster Pro 1.8 instead. It won't hurt to have Apache 2 though, and yes.... it can extract the 2nd layer better. I've heard that Sonix has Apache 3 now, so that should be useful for future (and or PS2 games).

Good luck!!

The answer is.... you only need to rebuild any PS2 games that's over 4.5GB, if you're a "Swap Magic" users. If you have a modchip PS2 console, then you could just burned it on a Verbatim DVD+R DL media and it should work like any original games.

You don't shrink the sizes (GB) of the game, you rebuild it with Gnie's tools like Gnie's DVD IML2ISO v4 or ExPERT, or (APACHE 2 can rebuild the IML into ISO as well).

PS2 games is a little different than DVD movies burning & shrinking (shrinking DVD movies is so easy, all you need is Nero Recode 2 or DVD Shrink) and take out any unwanted stuff ie other Audio, Sub Titles, extra commentary, previews & trailers, etc.

For rebuiding PS2 games, the most important part is the main ISO (that's what you're going after), once CD DVD GEN generated and export the IML, that's what you want to have either Gnie's IML2ISO or Apache 2 to rebuild the IML into ISO, then burn it with either DVD Decrypter, Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom (your choice of preference).

I can try to make a "revise" guide when I have the times, but that game (GOW) is sorta old now, plus there's a "sticky" thread that has a "guide" and all the "tools" you need in there already. Why don't you just follow on that instead?

I had trouble following the GT4 DVD-9 to DVD-5 guide. The main reason was the guide was written using Sonix GT4 tool v.1.01 and I was v.1.02, the current release. I could've figured it out, but I didn't need to since I have a Matrix Infinity. So I just burned it to Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and it plays perfectly. Make sure you're using the correct version of the Sonix tool and you go through all the steps again. Your probably making a minor mistake at some point. Stay with it.

You need to patch it to PAL? Are you using Swap Magic or a modchip to boot your backups? You can patch it to PAL with NTSC2PAL patcher found here: http://teammodders.com/download.php?action=category&cat_id=8
You need to register, but it's free.

I've read Genji is a Dual Layer game, but my copy is 3.9GB's. I rented a copy and copied it. I rented it again to make sure I didn't miss something. I have a Dual Layer burner with the most current firmware, and it only read the game as 3.9GB's. So I don't think it's a DVD-9 game. Did you download your version, or are you backing up an original? I just ripped mine with DVD Decrypter and burned it to TYG02 (8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's) at 4x and it plays perfectly. Of course I have a modchip.
