Did you unrar CD/DVDGen after you downloaded it? You need to right click it and click extract here.

Something is wrong with your system setup then. What is your operating? Are you running XP? Do you have AUTOEXEC.NT inside your System 32 folder?
Honestly, I don't have any issues installing any of them at all. I've just tried to download and try to install and it works like a charm for me.

Select YOUR.iso then Click Open button

After Extracting LBA done, Click OK button
4.Click the Relinker Icon button
5.Click Open button and Select YOUR.ISO-LBA.TXT and then Click Open button
6. Click Load button, click the message box OK button
7. Click the DecStartLba button, it will sort the DecStartLba see the LBA must be in ascending order
8.Click Save button, then click the message box OK button and Exit button
9. Click Extract File button
10. after Extracting File done, click the message box OK button
11. now Click Rebuild File button
12. Rebuilding Files Done and click the message box OK button
13. Now Click Rebuild LBA button, and click done message box OK button then Exit button , all done you will see the NEW-YOUR.ISO
Now, i skiped some irrelevant steps here, i would give you a link to the guide, but it comes in a RAR file, so...

Your system 32 folder can be found in My Computer-->C-->WINDOWS-->System 32. You need to make sure Show Hidden Files and Folders is checked in Windows Explorer. Go to Tools-->Folder options-->and check Show Hidden Files and Folders. That should tell you if the necessary file is present in your system folder. An I/O error usually means a scratched disc or incompabitlbe disc with your burner. I assume you're getting the I/O error when trying to rip with DVD Decrypter. Also makes sure your burner is in DMA mode:
82. Q. When I'm burning with DVD Decrypter or Nero I get an I/O error or some other strange error, what's going on?
A. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm
A straight burn refers to a game that you rip and burn with DVD Decrypter. No rebuilding, or shrinking is necessary. MODE-->ISO-->READ, then MODE-->ISO-->WRITE to quality media and you're done.

Now you're talking about 2 totally different problems here. Be specific, when asking/stating what is/are your problem. First, you said you couldn't install CD DVD GEN 1.5? And now you said it's an I/O Error?
Like Tokijin said, an I/O Error usually means the disc is badly scratched or dirty and can not be ripped, especially if you're using DVD Decrypter.

Okay Gents, I'm now fiddeling around since at least 50 hours, reading hundreds of posts...
First of all: THE BACKUP GUIDE WORKS! Great respect to all the experts (alcohol, Sonix etc.)
BUT:
If I want to play in Arcade/LAN Mode, PS2 freezes.
I tried this with 2 different PS2 (V5 and V9 with Ripper V3.4 Chip).
I used 4 different DVD-R's
Again: the game works fine, EXCEPT the LAN Mode.
Has anyone got LAN mode to work?
Any help highly and urgently appreciated!!
Oh yes: I've got a HD inside my PS2 and I'm also able to run GT4 from that, but when loading from HD and trying to start Arcade/LAN mode it tells me "no network adapter available".
I only want to play GT4 on LAN with two consoles

Your HD in your PS2 is connected to the PS2 through your Network Adapter.
Your network adapter will not let you transfer the infomation from your HD and let you have a connection to any LAN.
Therefore you cannot use ANY HD game with any LAN options.
I dont think there is a way round this, yet.
Now, when you rebuild any game, do you delete or compress the files?
That might help with the answer to your question.

Thanks for the answer to the second question! This is the first time somebody clearly gives a statement to that.
Regarding your question:
I followed the sonix GT4 guide and compressed the pss files (not deleting them).
I tried both pss downsampling tools (V1.00 and V1.01) because it was told V1.00 has some bug which corrupts sound.
Anyhow: when rebuilding GT4L1.VOL file, some PSS files remain in the "Expanded/mpeg" folder. I thought this to be ok because no errormessage appeared.
Oh yes: when using pss downsampling tool V1.01, it certainly produces different file sizes than those used by sonix in his guide for the pss files, which made it necessary to produce new IML and IMS files with CDDVDGEN.
Maybe its worth mentioning that I'm using the PAL version?

...by the way:
http://www.ps2hd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=929
there it is said, that you CAN play HD games with LAN...
AND? HERE YOU ARE!
Look for Patched HD Loader 0.7C and GT4 runs from HD with LAN!!!
Hope this helps somebody looking for the same solution!

Quote: tried using your guide and stuck on pss downsampling tool., i highlight pss files and drag and drop them, press go , but always get an error for each file, saying activex is missing or file missing,.etc.,, can you help.
@guncivic
Here's what you need to do:
If needed, place ACTIVESKIN.OCX into your C:\Windows\System32
Example: C:\Program Files\Windows\system32\ACTIVESKIN.OCX <-- this is what it should have/read when you go into your "windows" and "system32 folder" after you've "extracted" and placed ACTIVESKIN.OCX in "system32" folder, now inside System32 folder, you should see your new ACTIVESKIN.OCX in there.
To get ACTIVESKIN.OCX into your "system32" folder, do as the follow:
<> open up "gt4_tutorial" with WinRAR or winzip
<> double click on PSSDown
<> click on ACTIVESKIN.OCX and extract to specified folder
<> browse to local Disk C:(your hard drive), Windows, System32
and now click OK
<> now it should put ACTIVESKIN.OCX inside your system32 folder
Now just restart and just follow my GRAN TURISMO 4 Guide on page 5, in combo with Sonix and you should be able to have a successful backup.
Good luck and let me know how's your results. Remember if your version is the US (NTSC 4.94GB), then when Downsampling, make sure you set to 55% and I GUARANTEE that you'll have a successfully working backup on a DVD5 (DVD-R or DVD+R disc).
