hobbit,
I'll post one later tonight and see what you think. :)
Has anyone tried these discs? Philips hub printable
I read a little bit on another forum. (Sorry staff...lol) The Philips DVD-R code out as CMC.MAG.AM3 and "performed" well for the other guys. :) If need be maybe I can find the link again. :) I know, I know they are CMC MAG but there are "good" ones out there from other members here and the "other" forum. :)

hey GM, i often subscribe to loads of stuff at cdfreaks, i sometimes post there too, usually just on the odd media thread though; anyways, i was reading yesterday about CMC MAG AE1 i think it was..
edit- yup, it was - http://forum.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=228113
i'm going to take the plunge when i've got some spare cash and plump for some of the HP ones here - http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=931
..if they're any good you can't grumble at £3.49 for a tub of 25. I use the RICOHJPNR03 (Maxell) as my 'cheapy' discs but the quality/stability of the Ricoh's is so good that it's a shame to use so many of them as cheapies. I'm a bit concerned about the mixed reviews on the SVP link, but i guess a few tubs are worth trying. (Gulp, hope it's a good choice, i just remember how long it took me to try something other than the Verb/TY combo, was very pleased to have tried the RICOHJPNR03 as they've been very good to me)

This thread makes for interesting reading; it seems you may have to edit that sig of yours creaky ;-)
I can't say I have an opinion on the CMC MAGs as I don't burn anything but RICOHJPNR01/2/3 (various manufacturers), Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
Does that make me a.. "media elitist"?
So sue me ;-)

Yeh Creaky I know that you "visit" CDF now and then as do most of us. :D Some info you just can't find here which is OK but like you I must find something. :)
Found the thread that talked about the CMC MAG AM3. It starts out with the CMC MAG M01 but moves to "talk" about the AM3. They even go so far as to compare the AM3 to the TYG03 for quality. KNOWING the 2 that basically do this from previous posts and experience I trust them as much as some of the "gurus" here at AD. :D

Playr,
I've burned a few discs with the Samsung SH-S203B but not enough to "really" know how it's gonna perform. I LIKE it but hey I've only had it for a month or so. :)
I have the LiteOn LH-20A1S as well. AND I LIKE it too. LOL. NOT much help am I?? LOL
OH and btw I have the LG GSA-H62K as well. And it's a good one too. LOL.
If I was to get one for "usability" I would choose the LiteOn.
If I was to get one for speed and accuracy I think the Sammy is a good choice.
BUT (yeh I know) I think the LG edges both drives out right now for "quality" of burn and "scan" with a LiteOn drive. :D
How confused are you now? LOL.
....gm
Ask more questions please.....
If I can't "answer" them I know people who can. :)

I've done that too Yujenh.... :)

An emphatic NO!
I've used almost 200 of those OD RITEK R05 (is this the same MID Yujenh??) and had mediocre results at best. I can imagine that some here have had better luck but I don't care for them much. I like the RITEK R03 better.....(DVD+R 8X) but they are not as "good" as the TY valueline IMHO.. :)

Usability, is a good thing. I'm really interested in the ripping characteristics tho? Noise is not a factor. The samy is hard to find tho. Thanks for any input.
Also, I'm kinda anal and I avoid burning on one drive and scanning with another.

@Yujenh,
I meant the MID of the media, sorry for the confusion. :) RITEK R05?
I've seen 200 valueline's for $47.99 delivered but that's the lowest I remember in quite some time. :) If I remember right the last batch I got when ordering the valueline they were the TYG03's (DVD-R 16X). You might post in the TY thread and see what those guys say. I'm sure that aabbccdd will know, he buys them all the time. :)
@Playr,
LOL. I understand buddy. :D Are you wanting to get 2 DVDRW drives or 1 DVDRW and 1 DVD-ROM drive?? I still think for you the best deal might be the LiteOn LH-20A1S (SATA Optical drive). If you want a DVD-ROM drive you might look at something by ASUS or Sony (NEC Optiarc), THEY both build good DVD-ROM drives. :D
Another LiteON to look at is the LH-20A3P (sata isn't available yet here in the states) liteon dvdrw page at newegg

Yujenh, 47.99 is as lowest price I've seen. the 39.99 price doesn't include shipping
thought i would add my 2 cents and let Adriana brighten up the thread lol

Hey LOCO....
Good to see you stop by and lend a helping hand. :)
@BT69,
LOCO gave you an excellent link. Give it a read and see what answers you get. :P Why are you spending (thinking about it) $64 on the drive? Here's a link for about $37 delivered. :)

Thanks for the links and info on the samy.
Greensman, looking to get two DVD burners. I may just get one of each (Litey and Samy) in they'll most likely have different characteristics. Good to have all bases covered.

Diversity is a good thing as the different drives will have their own strengths. One may be a good reader, while another may be a good burner...you get the best of both worlds.

Damn you greensman, and you too LOCOENG! I now have a Samsung 203B on the way. :-)
Hopefully I'll get it on Friday so I can play with it over the weekend.
I'm also going to through my Benq DW1655 back in so I can do some comparison burns.
Now, where can I get my hands on some of that 16x +R DL Ricoh media to play with????

Find out anything interesting?
And as I already stated, I'm a complete "media-elitist", so even the slightest margin is good enough for me :-P
