I'm having a weird problem. I am attempting to re-encode using your blu-ray profile Ryu. I get as far to the calculate the bit rate part in MeGUI. I put in the proper bit rate for the video and click Apply. I am then asked the following question - "Copy Calculated Bit Rate Into Video Settings?". I then select yes, and when I go back to the bit rate calculator, what I have entered is gone and it's back to the File Size button being checked and doesn't show my bit rate I told to save at all. I tried clicking no and yes when it asks to copy into the video settings and neither works. I tried encoding and of course it didn't create the proper file size for the video. I am completely lost as to why MeGUI refuses to keep the bit rate I tell it to for an encode. Can anyone please help?

I am not completely clear on what you mean... MeGUI will not store the bitrate in the "bitrate calculator", instead it will transfer the bitrate to the profile currently selected. If this fails, simply copy and past the bitrate to the encoder profile manually.

When encoding, are you allowing sufficient overheads for the Blu-ray output?

I thought that was the case until I set my video output to 3.5gb and it came out after encoding to 5.1gb. I'm not sure what went wrong, but I know i've been getting all kinds of errors after updating my x264 file. Then after reading your pdf guide over, I see where you mention not to update the x264 as alot of them will not be compatible with your profiles. I am allowing sufficient overheads for the Blu-ray output, as I've successfully encoded videos to proper output size in the past. This was just weird as it's never happened before, normally when I tell it to output a certain video size, it does. I've restarted an encode after reinstalling meGUI with the original files you provided so I'm hoping it works fine using that. Does using the old x264 file you provided with your pack matter? I mean do the newer releases provide any better quality or anything important? I just ask because I like to have all the proper files when doing things to make sure everything comes out as it should. Thank you very much for the help.

I didn't actually write that guide. I would certainly never recommend such a thing. I must have overlooked that part of the guide when I was proof reading it. I always recommend running the latest versions of any software.

I did mention at some stage though, that I update my profiles from time to time to keep up with x264 encoder revisions and different parameters that may have been introduced.

As mentioned earlier, I didn't actually put that kit together. Str8Pryd did as a thank you to all the help he got from this thread. Come to think of it, I don't see him around here that often anymore. New versions of software are released for a reason, they either remove bugs, add extra options, and/or improve performance (speed or quality) etc.

Hi Guys

I want to start using MeGUI instead of TMPGEnc Express 4.0 - just to see if it's any better/quicker. I have got the latest version and created an avs script, my video source is a demuxed M2TS file (264) and audio source is ac3. I have two questions if you don't mind:

1. When trying to load the bitrate calculator the program errors and gives this message:

2. My only available output formats are MP4, MKV and RAWAVC. How can I get WMV9 as an option as well?

As far as I'm aware this is the only format the Xbox 360 will play for high def media, someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks for any help you can give :-)

Cheers

Hmmm, I wasn't aware of that, I thought it was important to follow the guide to the letter. I did download the newest X264 release and put it in the tools folder where the old X264 was. But when I did that and tried to encode, it gave me a error saying it couldn't open the x264 encoder. I did a fresh install using the files from the pack and using the old X264 encoder, it allowed me to encode again. Is there a specific X264 release that you know for sure works with your profiles? Because when I tried the newest one, it was a no go. My only solution was just to go back to what I know works and in my case it was simply using the X264 file that came with the guide/pack.

Hey guys, very informative thread and thanks to all you guys have put in the research to this conversion process. I am interested in seeing how to set up a one click profile in Megui which uses one of Ryu77's avchd profiles but using constant quality. I have followed the guide and was extremely happy with the result but I am unsure how to set up one-click encoding for the same results. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

And just for information, I try to encode in mkv at 720p for my home media center. I am not worried about file size and mainly focus on a quality final product. I am just hoping to be able to automate my conversion a little and still get the same results as I did using the step by step method and Ryu77's profile.

Thanks

I am not that familiar with supported formats by the 360. I know WMV is supported though, as you mentioned. If you are after WMV, then TMPGEnc 4.0 may be the better choice as MeGUI does not have that option as an output format.

I remember having similar issues with the HD-DVD version of King Kong. I needed to apply a delay to realign the sync with the video. I have never re-authored the BD version. You should just try re-encoding to AC3, then multiplex it to see what the result is. If it is out of sync at a constant delay throughout the video, then that is an easy fix. You simply need to calculate how much delay to apply. This is easily done with tsMuxeR.

I am not really a fan of constant quality due to the extremes of bitrate spikes. This kind of goes against the effort of encoding for Blu-ray spec. However, if it is for a media center, then that wouldn't matter. Which brings me to another thought... If it is for a media center and you don't care about final file size, why are you re-encoding in the first place? You could always just re-mux to Matroska (MKV) container format.

Thanks for the reply ryu. No one better to learn from how to use a ryu77 bluray profile in one click encoder than the man himself!
I say I'm not worried about filesize but that technically isn't true I suppose. I guess saying I'm not trying to compress to dvd5/9 but whatever a CQ factor between 18 and 22 at 720p will leave me would be more approriate.
So if YOU were to set up your own "ryu77 one click profile" to achieve results like one of your other high quality profiles, how would you go about it and what settings would you use.
Thanks alot for the help ryu!

I run MeGUI and all of my programs from the C: drive. That would be wonderful, that way I know the x264 encoder and everything else included would work, as currently it seems when I try to update the x264 encoder tool, it gives me a x264 couldn't be opened error when starting an encode. I would really appreciate that if you could upload it, just let me know where to grab it.

@ Ryu77,

Is re-encoding a 1080i source to 1080p advisable? I have never come across this situation so I'm not sure what the results will produce. Believe it or not, Se7en is being released tomorrow (in Canada only) by Alliance, the source is 1080i.

Here is a link for you. I have pre-configured everything to work directly from your C:\ drive. Please extract this directly to your C:\ drive not your program files folder, I am referring to the root directory.

From here on in, if you select "Update" under the "Options" drop down menu, MeGUI will automatically scan all your encoders and plug-ins and update them as new versions are released. You can also do this via CTRL + U.

Edit: I've also added this to the first post on this thread (where all the other application download links are). I will try to find time to keep it as updated as possible but don't forget that MeGUI has an automated update function.

Depends on the definition of interlaced... What is the resolution and what type of interlacing? Also, what is the frame rate?

Are you able to simply remove pulldown flags and restore it to 24fps?

There are no pulldown flags. It's 29.97fps, 1080i.

Thank you very much, this may sound like a silly question, but do I need to uninstall my current megui before installing/using this one to avoid any conflicts?

Ok guys I'm trying to figure this stuff out. I opened the avs script creator, loaded the movie m2ts from my bluray, select crop and auto crop, select resize to 1280 with suggest resolution checked then save.

In megui I select my output folder, then select the ryu77 avchd high quality profile then I configure it to use constant quality instead of two pass with a CQ of 18. I then choose rawavc, enqueue, and then start.

When encoding is finished i end up with only a 1gb .264 video file. What am i doing wrong? Am is missing a step or using a wrong setting perhaps?

Thanks

Before you enqueue go to Settings --> Bitrate calculator, and enter your desired size. The enqueue and start encoding.

I still need to calculate a bitrate even if I'm using constant quality and not choosing a desired ending file size?

Also I am leaving the avisynth profile as scratchpad and not changing any settings. Is this correct while using one of ryu's profiles?

There are no pulldown flags. It's 29.97fps, 1080i.
The fact that it's 29.97fps indicates that there has been some sort of telecine processing done to the video stream to change it from it's original 24fps/23.976fps. The most common being 3:2 pulldown. I would recommend experimenting with a manually created AVIsynth script and seek one frame at a time to see if you can identify the telecine pattern. Once you have done this, you should be able to work out what inverse telecine process is needed to restore the video back to 23.976fps therefore making it a 1080p video once again.

I tried a 10 minute sample... typical recode. It worked just fine, I will start the whole thing soon.

Ryu77 Ultra High quality = 24 hour recode on a Quad core !!! Holy cow.
