Then you better hope you live long because the Striker IIs are 780i and 790i. The Striker Extreme is a 680i!

Some nice temps there Rob...
The Antec Tricool fans are pretty decent - on medium speed they match the noise level of the SFF21Fs, don't push quite as much air, but glow nice and red... :P

I'm very suspicious but if these numbers are remotely true this could be a very interesting one for AMD.
Some basic number extrapolation of a real world benchmark (yes i know, extrapolation of an unapproved benchmark, don't shoot me!) shows that the following could potentially be possible:
Quake Wars, 2560x1600 with AA/AF: 50fps with HD4850, 90fps with HD4870x2
UT3, 2560x1600: 60fps with HD4850, 70fps with HD4870.
HL2:Ep2, 2560x1600 with AA/AF: 45fps with HD4850, 90fps with HD4870X2
COD4, 2560x1600 with AA/AF: 50fps with HD4850, 80fps with HD4870X2
Crysis, 1920x1200 (High): 30fps with HD4850, 35fps with HD4870 and any multi-GPU setup.

well its an AMD graph, who knows that drivers/setup they are using for the 9800GTX.
if its true, sign me up for the one thats under £150 (unless the 4870 is just £170)

From reports I'm reading the 4870 should be more like £250, and the 4850 about £180.

Hmm, I thought it was $269...
229USD = £116.66
*VAT@17.5% = £137.08
add typical 20% markup = £164.50

The 8800GTS G92 can pretty much pull that off, so a 4850 should certainly manage.
By the way, who are TN Film?

a cheap type of LCD panel. it has a lower resonase time than VA panel so better for FPS gaming, but has lower colour representation and viewing angles.
for eample the Dell 24" that boozer got was cheap = TN, where as the ultrasharp series are amazing = S-PVA

Right, that makes sense. My monitor has an S-IPS panel. That explains its response time - thanks for the link, interesting read.
I do get the 'purple haze' when I view the monitor from a wide angle, always thought that was a bit weird... :P Still, if it's supposed to be the best kind of panel available, I'm happy.

np.
for colour vibrance and qulaity S-IPS cant be beaten, and for TN film, response time cant, then you have the in the middle VA panels (MVA, PVA, Samsung-PVA (best VA ))

It's interesting, as the sole complaint against S-IPS other than the purple hue (which is really only present on an all black screen if you stand looking down on the monitor) is the response time, and I have to say, I haven't seen any ghosting in any games, at all - and hey, the screen's big enough to notice! :P
What's interesting is that all the Dell 30" monitors use S-IPS, but the Samsungs use S-PVA - fortunately the Samsung 30" still uses a very good quality PVA panel, so the shortcomings of colour accuracy aren't much of an issue - that said though, there was something seriously up with the gamma on the one I saw - here's hoping it was his graphics settings.

If you noticed, the nVidia numbers never move on the graph, which is pure BS! There's no way that all the games tested didn't change any of those bars. I'm not questioning The Ati's numbers, but I am questioning the validity of the reported nVidia's performance! as it stands, those numbers are pure BS!

You need to use the scroll bar so the processor speed shows in the pic. Your performance is about the same as mine except you kick my butt in SuperPi, but I kick yours in memory bandwidth with the 1066 memory!

What do you have the Performance Enhance set to in the MIT of the Setup? If it's set to Standard, change it to Turbo. If that works all right change it to Extreme and see what it does. Your PSU will click on-off-on on the restart, so don't panic! LOL!!
sammorris,
Did you ever sort out the speed with AVG? Just disable the link scanner and the problem goes away! LOL!! 7.5 didn't have it, and I got no viruses of any kind with it so I don't see disabling it doing any harm!

Russ

It should improve your memory bandwidth a bit. I'm not sure but the default setting is Turbo, so I would at least set it back to that!

Doesn't Turbo just OC the CPU a bit? I think it's recommended to set it to standard when OCing.

Lol come on Russ! It's showing the comparative performance of the cards - those aren't fixed figures!
Interesting point about AVG though, I simply resorted to starting to use NOD32 instead - approaching the end fof my free trial, but I'm reformatting soon, so I'll have another month to decide what I'm doing!
Also, the Gigabyte boards I've had have printed in large letters "If overclocking, select 'standard' for better stability".

You can call me a senile old bastard if you want, but please lose the phrase "Senior Moment". I don't like it and I find it insulting!
I know what it means, it just the way they present it. The scale is meaningless unless you know what it represents. I know it shows the scale of improvement over the nVidia, but what do those numbers mean? If they just showed the actual performance on a scale that was meaningful it would be a little less Biased and a lot more informative. Someone who's thinking of buying the 9600GTX might actually think that the 8800GT is just as good or a better deal for the money. They certainly don't make the chart all that clear!

I only included the one pic as I don't think you will need the other to understand what I'm saying. AMD has done everything to show their product in the best possible light, and yet not show any real performance numbers! Good Advertising!

Russ
