thanks so much for the help that you have given here. I have a problem in relation to streaming from my pc to my ps3. I have done this before with my ps3 with another computer (my brothers) with no problems, but when i try and do it with my own pc, windows media player, tversity as well as nero cannot detect my ps3. I have my ps3 in the dmz on my router, I have deleted the contents of the DRM folder on my pc, but still no joy. I have a NAT 2 connection with my ps3, and both my ps3 and my pc work and connect to the internet perfectly. I have a dlink 524 with upnp enabled. really hope you can help, this is a months long hair pulling out situation.
Delete the cache from your ps3 internet browser and disable the windows firewall, then see if you can detect a server.

DHCP automatically assigns an ip address to your ps3, if its telling you to use dhcp then you shoudn't set up a static ip address. set up your ps3 connection using the easy setting, and check dhcp is enabled by going to control panel->network connection, right click your connection and select properties, highlight internet protocol(tcp/ip) click properties click advanced.

Do all your other games work online except cod4? maybe its a problem with the cod4 servers, i no it used to happen before they patched it. not sure about it now though as i dont have it.

Excellent walk-through for mostly computer illiterate people like me. I got my first wireless router, a Belkin G or something, last week and I had a lot of problems with it dropping the connection. My laptop, PS3 and PSP could not work simultaneously on the internet/PSN. It was due to my router assigning the same IP address to each machine, which I found out from your post. Using your guide I gave each machine it's own IP address and now they all work with no connections dropping. I spent a few hours thralling through loads of crap on the net until I found this walk-through and it's gold. Thanks a million.

hey there thank you so much for the walk through, i have been having hours of waiting to get into a cod game online so i thought this would help..
i have RCN as my cable provider and have a LINKSYS wireless-g cable gateway model wcg200
i followed everything exactly on the instructions only thing different is my ip address starts with 192.168.0 instead of 192.168.1 so i changed the suggested static ip address to 192.168.0.
did everything on the ps3 then the pc..then turned off the router pc and ps3 for a cpl minutes, then turned everything back on and now my ps3 wont get online at all..
when i try to do a internet connection test it says access point was not detected..
please help me

Hey hey!
Thanks for a great guide, only one thing I need help with.
When I do a cmd, and type ipconfig, the Default Gateway is 10.0.0.138
Is this the correct number? Shouldnt it be something more like a IP adress? This sounds more like a local adress or something. The reason I ask is that when I type in that in the playstation internett connection settings, and do a connection test, I get a fail on connecting to internet. Is there any way I have the wrong Default Gateway or could it be something else?
Thanks alot for any help.

Great guide!
I only have one problem. I have a Linksys WRT150N and when I get to the DMZ area to where I'm supposed to put my static IP in I get this...
Source IP Address: Any Ip Adress
______.______._______._________.to ________
Destination IP Address: 192.168.1._______
....and I'm not sure what to put. Any Help would be Awesome.
Shout Out The DAEBO!

Okay, I've followed the guide and I think I've done everything right, but when I do an internet connection test on my ps3 it says my NAT type is "failed" along with the message "The connection to the server timed out (80130203)." I can get into the lobby in COD: W@W but I can't seem to get into any games. Have I done something wrong?

Hi, I have suggested this to someone who was having trouble with the issues you brought up, ie, connecting to other users. They have just told me this.......
I have got to the bit where you put in your IP address in the address bar. After putting it in, it comes up with the following in a small box in the centre of the screen;
The server 192.168.1.254 at Thomson Gateway requires a username and password.
Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection).
I haven't a clue what this username or password is. Any ideas what i need to do?
......
Any chance you could help with this, thanks in advance.

Can't you just login to the router?
It should probably have the option for using a dmz in it.

Hi,
for that ip address i beleive it is username-SuperUser, password-the serial number on your router.
Although i don't know how to put an o2 thomson router into dmz, if anyone can help i'd be much appreciative

This is a good guide and I am going to take a look at my router over the weekend. I have a quick question:
Does doing the DMZ thing put either your PS3 or PC at risk?
