yeah at 3.4GHz i'm really not pushing it that much I'm sure 3.6GHz or even 3.8GHz wouldn't be a problem with this system/mobo and BTW the biggest difference between our CPUs is the 12MB L2 Cache with the Q9450 which leads to amazing encoding times with DVD Rebuilder (7.5 gig file encodes in about 30 mins lets see your Q6600 do that lol)

Yes your processor is better, and you should OC it more. But I am not sure what this DVD rebuilder does, but I can make a xvid with 5.1 to a dual layer DVD in 13 minutes with ConvertXtoDVD?

An 800MB XVID? His file is 7.5GB. Those take longer because they preserve quality.

Should stil only take 32-35 minutes with your Q6600 at that speed.

As for the RAM test, it was over at benchmark reviews dot com, I'll let you find it, I'm in the process of installing Vista & all the related riff-raff on my desktop at the moment, so am quite busy... :P

Yeah but that's 2-5 minutes I could be 'studying' if you know what I mean.

What's that? You don't know what I mean? Oh well, I never was good at these things...

Can't find it. I did find this however from your site, http://www.digit-life.com/articles3/cpu/...ddr3-1333.html, it is DDR2-800 v.s. DDR3-1333, and again the DDR3 prevails.

From everything I've found, the DDR3-1600 is still better than the DDR2-1067. I have tighter timings (stock) than the DDR3 they are testing in most cases too.

I'll have to be honest and say it. My own PC is my ultimate dream computer. It has all of the very best, highest performance, highest quality components I could find and will be even sweeter when I go crossfire :)

I honestly can't see much faster than a 3.4GHz quad and crossfire 4870s :)

My only change would be a RAID array with 4 150GB WD Velociraptors. And maybe 4GB of RAM if I can find another identical or similar 2 x 1GB kit.

I didn't want to say it because it's so cliché, but it's true, I don't dream of a computer, I dream of what I'd change about my current setup, and right now that's nothing. :) I don't care how much it takes to get the job done, Playing Crysis on all high at 2560x1600 and it being playable just puts a smile on my face, as I gaze at the white and amber light shining out of my PC to my right, and the fierce red glow of my fileserver torrenting to my left...

You should be able to play it well with a few very high settings. For you, I would recommend shadows, shaders, textures, and postprocessing.

Like a Q9550 is much faster? 10-20% at best when you overclock them to their best... for twice the price I'll pass thanks...

Yeah in my wildest dreams :P

That's too crazy for me. You need to be very wealthy too for that kind of near-professional hardware. Especially that QX9770. Ouch. Get a Q6600 or even a Q9450 and OC it. I guarantee you'll never notice the difference, except in benches. Thank god for the golden age of overclocking :)

I still don't get why he includes 4 litres of coolant when a typical system uses like 400ml.

technically its 2L for each loop, becuase you will need to do quiet a few bleed tests, etc, so using it, then drianing it and using ir then draining it.

Estuansis

its a QX9775 not QX9770, as skull trial doesnot support LGA 775, only LGA771

hey people! X58 chipset if much cheaper than X48 but in the end the board is much expensive due to it's 8 layers of PCB and not 6

Think about it, tracks on a PCB have to be so wide, and there's only so many you can fit in an ATX sized motherboard, think of it as how many people you can fit in a building. You only have so much land to build on, so rather than make the building wider, you go high-rise. :)
