Note: most DVI-only cards come with DVI to VGA adapters when new.
Sam,
First off, the 9500GT is an ideal card for the type of games Creaky's Daughter plays. Second, it's not a passively cooled card, like the HD3450, and the price is about the same. You can pick up the 9500GT I recommended for about $40. We are not talking state of the art video cards here! LOL!! I like nVidia cards because I've had far less driver issues with them than I ever had with Ati cards.
GDDR3 is a big issue too. The majority of HD 4650s are GDDR2 or DDR2, and much slower than cards with GDDR3. The GDDR3 ones are about $20 more than the GDDR2 ones. The best 9500GTs have GDDR3, and a better GPU chip to support it than the older GDDR2 models had. If I was going to recommend an Ati, it would be this one.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...-113-_-Product. Only about $10 more and a more powerful card. It has VGA, DMI and HDMI ports. The MSI 9500GT comes with DVI and HDMI ports and includes an adapter from DVI to VGA As far as second hand goes, unless I knew the person I was buying it from, I wouldn't go near one!
Mainly, I recommended the MSI 9500GT bacause I have been using mine for a year now, and I'm happy with it's performance. For what I do with it, it was a very good choice. I guess my biggest gripe with the Ati cards is the constant need to upgrade the drivers! Every time I got a new game, it wouldn't work without installing the latest version of catalyst, and so on. With my 9500GT, I installed the drivers that came with it, and haven't touched them since. Far Cry II recommends upgrading the drivers, but it plays fine. If I could upgrade without having to throw out the MSI control interface, I would! Unfortunately, the upgrades are just the newest drivers, direct from nVidia and you lose the control interface, so I don't upgrade! I know I can use RivaTuner or CoolBits to do the job, but I can control every aspect of the video from a very simple menu by right clicking on the desktop. I have the video card directly control my DVD video settings, rather than Power DVD 7, and it looks magnificent. What more could you ask for unless you are big into games?
Best Regards,
Russ

Sam,
Newegg doesn't sell a GA-P55A-UD5, at least not so far. I know there's a difference because the "A" has USB 3.0 and Sata 6.0. The price is why I figured Rob was looking at the X58A-UD5. It has only 6 USB 2.0 ports on the back, but I thought the 3.0 ports were backward compatible, and there are two of those as well. So there's still 8 USB ports on the back of the MB and 2 headers for 4 more ports on the motherboard!

Also you might want to get different ram, I have the same one's you linked and they aren't stable at 9-9-9-24 with less than 1.72v (they will run at rated timing and speed, just need a bit more voltage). If you're willing to run your ram voltage that high (refer to one of sam's post a page or two back) I'll sell you my kit for 50$ + shipping (only used for a week) if you want them.
Ohhhhhhhhhh.... I might be interested!!! :D

Newegg may not sell the P55A-UD5, but it sure exists, I almost bought one, before deciding on the UD4 instead due to cost.

ive found it from $250-$280
i never once looked at a X58 board.
Rob,
The only reason I thought you might have accidentally read the specs on the wrong board was because of the price, and the board I linked did list 6 rear USB 2.0 ports. You had all those Newegg links, so it was only natural that I though you were quoting Newegg. I wonder why Newegg doesn't sell the GA-P55A-UD5 yet? It may be the economy, what with having to buy a new MB, memory and the CPU to build a system, as most don't have the MB or the memory already.
Sorry,
Russ

Sam,
I know it exists, because I googled it to look for a Newegg link and didn't find one. I then went to GigaByte and looked it up, and there it was! LOL!!

not enough sata plugins on it and only 3 fan headers, plus he has RMA'd it twice now. mem slot 2 & 4 were non functional, I/O panel on half the usb ports dont work. plus DDR3 2000 is the way to go on these I5/I7 builds the mem i choose i will swap out for DDR3 2000. more reliable wuth most every board for OC'ing.
i wouldn't mind that GA-P55A-UD5 but it cant be found around here...lol but in a few months it just might.

Quote: Sam is there such thing as a GA-P55A-UD5? I cant find one at the egg? the P55A-UD6 has nothing but bad reviews.
If you read the reviews, most of them are complaints about the limitations of P55 itself. Most of those reviews weren't using any learned information at all. Every single thing they complain about is covered in the documentation. There is no excuse for giving a bad review to a product you don't understand...
Case in Point:
Quote: I understand that there is not a HUGE impact in performance between 8x and 16x PCI-E (there is an in depth article on Tom's Hardware showing this). Which is why 1 @ 16x and 1 @ 8x in CFX or SLI is acceptable on a P55 mobo. But on a $250 motherboard if I cannot run 2 video cards I sure as xxxx better be able to run 1 at its full potential.
Quote: To sum it all up: I would not recommend this motherboard to anyone. If you want a board where you can actually use all 6 memory slots, USB 3, and 2 video cards at full data transfer, all at the same time, go with another board or better yet, go with another brand.
Slagging Gigabyte when it's not their fault? You ignorant edited by ddp. It's listed in the P55 documentation.

Hurr Durr how do I get two USB3 ports at 150MB/s each, two S-ATA3 ports at 600MB/s each and two graphics cards at 8x each off a chip that only provides 16x bandwidth?
Tards.

a bit defensive there calling a random person an ignorant prick lol. But i agree he should have gone with ECS :p
I thought the link to the PCH was 2GB^-1s? So that's 6x3000Mbs^-1s (sata) plus 14x480Mb^-1(usb) plus 8x500MB^-1s (pcie 1x) use all of them and that's 18000+26880+32000= 76880/8 = 9.6GB^-1s. Yeah 2GB^-1s isn't enough lol. That's if my maths right. And id assume the sata3 and usb3 use pcie 1x for their bandwidth, as does one lan port, and that can double upto 2, so 6 ports gone there. Leaving a theoretical 2x pcie slot left. Its why nvidia realistically can't do onbaord graphics for it.

If you're going to try using the scientifically accepted unit, you need to do it properly :)
2GB^-1s is two seconds per gigabyte. 2GBS^-1 is two gigabytes per second.
The Peripheral controller hub controls the standard USB2 and S-ATA3 connections I believe. I am unsure exactly how USB3 and S-ATA3 are wired, because their use reduces the speed of the 16x slots if they are set to 'fast' mode. You can use them without this side-effect, but their performance is of course stunted. Assuming 16x worth of bandwidth for the USB3, S-ATA3 and PEG alone, that renders, of the 8GB/s available bandwidth, a minimum of 6GB/s, since 2GB/s is used for the pair of 600MB/s S-ATA ports and pair of 400MB/s USB3 ports, assuming both ports can operate in SuperSpeed at once, without shared bandwidth.

Hey sam, for whatever reason, it now seems to be averaging ~68MB/second transfer speeds over Giga Lan, on the 5000AAKB. Perhaps my drives are too fragmented. It is possible. I'm pretty bad about defragmenting LOL!

Large fan of Gigabyte's yellow cables myself. Every single red ASUS cable I've used has had a failure. In stark contrast, I'm still using cables from my Gigabyte P965 board for OS drives :P
For those of you who don't know me from way back when, I bought my P965 board in mid 2006...

LOL! I think I have enough to make them all yellow :p

I applaud you for your diversity. Some people are prejudiced towards those of different color and it is examples like this that show we can all get along. If this mixed relationship is possible whats next?
XBOX vs. Playstation wars end?
Pepsi vs. Coke?
Browns vs. Steelers?
Liverpool vs Manchester United?
Apple & Windows marry, get Linux drunk, and talk it into a 3way just to keep things fresh in the bedroom?
Is this what the whole 2012 thing was about?
