I do realize that these reviews are pretty old, but I don't see how you can say you would rate my CM over the OCZ Gamestar 700w. Many of the components are the same ones used in far more expensive PSUs, including Corsairs! With two AC bridge rectifiers instead of one, three power MOSFET transistors in the Active PFC stage instead of two, and eight Schottky rectifiers in the final DC stage (four for the +12V, two for the +5V, and two for the +3.3V output), I don't see how you can come to that conclusion.

Likewise the OCZ StealthXStream 600W uses most of the same internals thus my heavy recommendation of it. It's very cheap price-wise and matches the performance and quality of several better known units. I wouldn't promote it if I didn't think it was a VERY good unit.

The first review was somewhat suspect, as they didn't have a load tester that could load more than two +12v rails. They did a nice job of breaking down the components though! The second review has all the right equipment to do a better job of testing it. In both reviews, the 700w GameStar was highly recommended. While the 500w CM has been a good and very stable PSU for me, it can't hold a candle to the quality features of the GameStar! With the proper equipment, they were able to load the 4 +12v rails to 692w. To my eyes, that's pretty good!

And this is just the load on the 12v+ rails? Mine has been run on a proper load tester and it shut down at 730W. Albeit not entirely on the 12v+ it was total DC output.
Very interesting on the 12v+ results though as I assume that would be the main difference between the StealthXStream 600 and the GameXStream 700. The case on the PSU lists its max output on the 12+ rails at 580W! Again, I wish I would have paid closer attention to the test as it was being run. I would then have a bit more to add to the discussion, LOL.

You might have to try a different email Russ as my current ISP has basically stopped letting me check my spam entirely. Which is frustrating as several legit emails I have been waiting for seem to get filtered out. Like quite literally the webmail spam server has stopped updating and I usually would have a few dozen spam objects by now. That second article was a very interesting read. They mention the Zalman ZM600-HP which I also remember from a different review. They show all 3 PSUs next to each other with the case open and the PCB is identical and they share many common parts. It seems the main difference between the Stealth 600 and the Game 700 is that it's rated for more on the +12v and that's it. The Zalman ZM600-HP seems like it's the same thing as the Stealth 600. I do remember the Zalman actually had Zalman copper cooling solutions and heatpipes though. They test the GameXStream up to 692W (DC Out iirc) But it apparently can go higher. I know there are limits on the parts but I'd almost say the GameXStream could reasonably approach 800W.
Oh yeah and Sam, the ripple was way within spec too, so I don't see why you think they're bad units at all. They seem very good to me. Never read a bad review.

nowt much wrong with OCZ and really can you tell a difference between 1600 and 1333mhz? even benchmarks arnt that diffferent.

I'm pretty sure I've seen considerable differences between 1333 and 1600, but not much between 1600 and anything higher. Besides, 1333mhz is rarely much cheaper than 1600.

Maybe i'm old fashioned but my main rig only has 2GB in it, most everything else has 1GB plus one has 512MB.Oh and my Optiplex 745's both have 4GB but even then i'm only running 32-bit across those and all other machines. The 745's only even have 4GB in them just because i have 4GB. I honestly don't know what some of you need i mean want 4GB or more for in your rigs :)

Mostly for crazy games. Windows 7 with web browsers in background uses between 1.5 and 2.7GB of memory. Add that some games use up to 5GB of memory for themselves, 8GB is going to be required.

basicalyl i want it for the lulz lol. i dont need it and hell my brother on vista uses 2GB and games, though at 1280x1024 with no problems, but itd be nice.

Vista 32-bit does not equal Vista 64-bit. 2GB isn't enough for the desktop in Vista 64-bit, let alone to play games (Google chrome, 20 tabs, measured RAM usage at 3.3GB)

Well my car needs a new £800 LPG system to get my consumption back down to it's previous 60MPG at approx 60p/litre, i'm still out of work and i'm (painfully) stuck gadding about in Unleaded mode (on which my car averages 20 to 25MPG and costs anywhere between £1.18/litre and £1.21/litre). Criminal, the most basic of journeys therefore averages £10 a day in fuel.
So let me see, modern gaming and RAM upgrades, or 20year old Monkey Island games and a new LPG system, hmmm, let me see...

As far as i'm aware the cost of LPG is always kept at roughly half that of Unleaded, so yes it could easily reach £1.20/litre, as Unleaded & Diesel are going to keep going up, so is LPG. There's not a huge amount of stations, but enough of them, my LPG tank holds 47 litres, which gets 240 miles a tank, enough to get around.
On topic i know nothing about i5 or i7 tech, can't comment on those.

I perceive LPG as very much a short-term. It won't be long before it's taxed just as much as normal fuel is. I'm somewhat baffled how it can improve efficiency from 20mpg to 60mpg though, that doesn't make any sense.

It does burn much cleaner than conventional petrol. I learned from my dad that the cleaner your fuel burns the more power it makes. The more power you make, the more efficient the entire engine is because it needs less force to rotate. I dunno if this explains the whole difference but:
hotter(cleaner) burning = More power = More efficiency

A lot of the increase in MPG is perceived as opposed to a physical increase, ie hugely reduced costs per litre don't forget, such a fuel system basically allows mere mortals to afford to run gas guzzlers that they otherwise couldn't on the guzzler's original fuel.
On topic i've been pondering a HD4650 again for one of the Dell 745's, until i opened the case and realised how low profile, low profile is on a 745!.
So instead i was going to get one for the Quad machine to replace it's Geforce 6200 but it turns out the 6200 plays Monkey Island Special Edition perfectly fine, and it also plays Monkey Island 5 fine, so i won't bother with the card upgrade just yet. I don't even need an upgrade for the HTPC (the other Dell 745) as it's onboard video plays 720p and 1080p perfectly fine. The only annoyance with the HTPC is down to Windows 7 not having a driver for the Samsung TV, so sometimes movies have 'tearing' upon playback. Most annoying until i can get a driver. Adding a video card (even if i could fit one in the case) wouldn't help as it's the monitor driver that's lacking, not video. Hey ho, that's PC's for you.
