Ectuansis,
that's about the difference I would expect between 3.7 and 3.5GHz. I'll see what it can do when I get that front fan changed out!

I just happened to notice the speed and snapped this one
image removed.. sorry Russ.. ;)
I have it running at 3.5GHz, just to get a feel for the temps, and I am pleased with the results. I have the new Slipstream installed in the rear, and I'm pleased, especially since it's actually warm out compared to the 50F or lower that we've had all week. So far the temps are just about what I expected as they dropped the MB temp a couple of degrees. I'm going to install the FN121 in the lower front, when I Install the new PSU, sometime this weekend. Not feeling very well today. I have to pull the HDD Bay to get at the screws for the front fan anyway, so it might as well be when all the wires are out of the way. I figured that the new fan would help lower the motherboard temps, and it has by about 2-3C. It should be a degree or two cooler with the FN121 installed in front. The FN121 should drop the HDD temps some too. So far I'm happy! Sorry for the cropping, but I didn't want to blow out everyone's screen, so I tried to keep it compact.
Stay Tuned,
Russ ;0)
Nice job Russ. ;) Been to dang busy to do anything with mine lately. :(
Thanks GM! I haven't killed one optical drive this week, either! LOL!!
What happened to the pic? LOL!!

Is it possible to hook up 8 fans that sunbeam rheobus fan controller through the use of a y-connector? Even though I should know this I suck at EE stuff lol.

Depends on the "ability" of the Rheobus. ;) Try it and let us know. :p

Here's my temps at maximum, running ConvertX
Here's DVDRB/CCE
When you get to 62C on the cores, the difference between the core and CPU temps, is only 1-2C I'll see what the difference is, if any tomorrow when I put the new PSU in, and the FN121 fan in the front.
Best Regards,
Russ

Looking good russ. 1.5V??? You shouldn't need that, unless you're clocking to the moon LOL!

Russ, That's an awfully high vcore (great temps though, I'm jealous), what's the OC on that cpu?

Just might, need to slave my new fans down to more reasonable rpms and noise. I really don't like their sound signature.

Oman7,
I just left it at 1.5v from the previous OC failure! LOL!! According to the AMD Forum, the voltage limit is 1.5 to 1.55v, given the slight differences between samples. When the core temps start climbing and you can't cool them, it's time to back off the voltage a little! I want to see what the temps are tomorrow when I put in the PSU and install the FN121 in the front. Then I'll back it down to 1.475v. With the NB voltage and the CPU Northbridge VID voltage set properly, it will run at the lower volts. It runs sweet now, at 3.6GHz. I can't set the HT Link Frequency to 2200 like you can, but I can run the NB at 2200, so there's not a lot of difference, and the NB is more important to performance. It needs a bios update so the bios can see the 1066 memory, and then I can use the EPP, which will help the performance even more. I'm about to play some Far Cry2 and I'm going to max all the settings and see what it does. Wish me luck!
I agree with you about the 1080p though, but I'm not spending all that time encoding for 8-10 hours for something I can't even use. I still get a DVD that's light years better than a standard commercial DVD-9. DVDRB/CCE has it's limits as to what it can and cannot do, but in all fairness, where it falls short doesn't do enough bad to outweigh the overall great quality. Who cares about dark night skies or the walls of caves! LOL!! Where the action is, the Quality is fabulous! Avatar looks fantastic on my neighbor's 37" 720p!
Best Regards,
Russ

Quote: (Red_Maw)Russ, That's an awfully high vcore (great temps though, I'm jealous), what's the OC on that cpu?
Red_Maw,
AMD says the chip is safe from 1.50 to 1.55v, depending on the individual CPU. The tell-tale is the core heat. if it starts running away where you can no longer cool it properly, it's time to back the voltage down or burn it up.
I'm running 3.6GHz at the moment, but I left it at 1.5v so I can better judge things when I install the FN121 in the front, when I change the PSU. I have to pull the HDD bay anyway, to get at the front fan screws. The FN121 is about 31cfm higher than the stock Cooler Master (22cfm) fan, so I may be able to get to 3.7GHz with the Freezer 7. One thing's for certain, I've got the airflow just about right! LOL!! I'm pretty sure that it will reduce the HDD temps and drop the CPU Temp a degree or two! You can't really expect more than that from a Freezer 64, rated at 130w. I'll post the results after I make the changes, hopefully tomorrow!
EDIT
I raised it to 3.7GHz, but it's OK idling and doing simple things, but stress testing gets the cores to 64C and the CPU to 63C. It needs more CPU cooler for over 3.6GHz. Here's SuperPi 1M at 3.7GHz.
I will be saving my money for that 92mm, 4 pipe Noctua! LOL!!
Clock On,
Russ

Update
I installed the OCZ 700w GameStream PSU, and changed out the front fan. After looking over the temps, I've lowered it to 3.5GHz until I can afford the 92mm, 4 pipe Noctua. Here's a couple of screen shots of Everest, at idle at 3.5. Note the motherboard, GPU Diode and Hard Drive temps.
Here, it running at 100%, all four cores with P95
Again, note the motherboard, GPU Diode and the Hard Drive temps. It never was this cool before with the x4 630. Normal was right around 40C for the motherboard, 50C for the GPU Diode and low 40Cs for the Hard Drives. The cores flickered to 62C, but went right back down to 58C. I've got the case airflow right so I know when I do get the Noctua, cooling should not be an issue at all. I probably won't need two fans, since the Noctua NH-U9B SE2 92mm cools much better than the Freezer 64 to begin with. The best part is it's quieter. All you can hear is some airflow. It ran right good at 3.7GHz, without issues, but the temps got too high for me, so I'm real close to my goal of 3.8GHz. A better CPU cooler like the Noctua should get me there.
I'm Happy,
Russ :0)
I probably could have left it at 3.6GHz, but I would rather be cautious, than stupid

Have I got a surprise for everyone, including me! I did some more playing around, and got the voltages down, and here's a Pic you won't believe, and no it isn't shopped! Ambient temp was 78F. and yes, that is 3.8GHz. Solid as a rock
I ran Multi core P95 for an hour, only to get a pic of the Screen Grabber Pro window. That's what happens when you get tired! I accidentally double clicked on the capture button when I had it set for full screen, and didn't realize it It's amazing what you can accomplish with a Freezer 64 if you can get the airflow right. The voltage is much lower too! I'm still planning on the Noctua, because it isn't summer here yet. Today is only the third day this year we got over 80F outside. Here's a little CPU Math for you as well.
And a little SuperPi!
I can get more out of it, but I promised myself I would quit at 3.8GHz! LOL!! I'm still pretty amazed, myself!
Oops, I almost forgot Everest idle temps at 3.8GHz.

Fred,
The 92 MM Noctua is very close in size the the Freezer 64, but has 4 pipes instead of 3. They cost a bit more than the Freezer 64, but you buy what does the job and fits.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608014
Rob,
It is amazing that you are clocking a computer faster, Still stable, yet it starts to lose some performance, after the sweet spot. Sophocles calls that the point of diminishing returns. Would it be worth going faster? Not to me it wouldn't be, besides I was shooting for 3.8GHz, and that's what I got. To do it with a Freezer 64, just shows you what can be done if you can get the airflow right. I'm not in any big rush to get the Noctua, but we'll see what happens when it starts getting real hot. I love it when a plan comes together though!
Best Regards,
Russ

I decided to run DVDRB/CCE 2 Pass since it's 81F in here right now, so I can see how the temps do in a typical re-builder job.
This pic is two fold. It's the lowest temps it hit during the entire re-build, and just happened to catch the speed in the 15s. Mid 14s are more typical speeds though! LOL!!
This is the maximum temperatures reached.
3.8 GHz 81F ambient. I am one happy camper! :0)
