I don't care who started what. It takes two to tango which is why I told you both to knock it off. End of discussion.

sorry i'm also kindof new, but i was wondering:

1) where can i find DVD9s (anything bigger than DVD5)? Circuit city, special order?

2) I'm use Nero Start Smart to burn my games (at school), and i was wondering if there are any special procedures in burning large games like God of War (9GB i think). Can i still burn using the same setup?

3) sometimes, when creating an image for a game (specifically, ratchet & clank:UYA/Sly Cooper 2:BOT), it'll get up to like 70-80% complete and then detect a read error. SInce I'm at school, and since it takes up to 30 mins to get that far, one can see why this is somewhat discouraging and frustrating. Is this because the discs are too badly scratched, am i burning too fast (maximum), or what? Help will be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, seems like that could be the case. Try cleaning the discs, and see how far they get. Is it only these particular games that you're having trouble reading to the hdd?
If you have many scratched games, you may want to invest in a DiscDr., or similar, device to attempt to buff out small scratches and marks. I have tried it before and it did fix a problem similar to this for one of my dvd movies i was backing up. Just a possibility.

hey thanks a bunch. and to answer your question, yes, these are the only games i'm experiencing difficulty with. however, it should be noted that i am new at this, so i have only backed up around 10 games, so it could just be a ratio thing. I am using Nero b/c, currently, it is the only system i have access to. Any words on Nero and just how it ranks compared to other burning devices? I can make an investment if need be...

I tried burning tiger 2005 with a Sony Vaio and a TDK dvd-r 8X. I backed up Fight Night Round 2 with the same equipment but Tiger keeps getting stuck on the loading screens. Can anyone give me some info on how they were able to do it and what program they used. I have tried Alcohol 120, and Drag n Drop. neither worked.

Also do i need anything special for Splinter Cell Theory.

add "digital devil" saga to the list. Awesome game indeed! Get it! S
Oh, so is Area 51! Does anyone know if Xenosaga Episode II can be easily backed up. I know Episode I is dual-layered or something and can't, but what bout II? The reason i'm asking is cause i read somewhere that someone did it w/out special procedures, but my friend said he heard otherwise! Please help. I must add it to my collection!

Problems:

Sega Classics [USA] (It gives a blue border, but then goes to the "insert PS2 disc" screen.)

Successes:

World Snooker 2005 [PAL] (patched w/ NO Y-FIX, because it won't load otherwise. Also, my movies aren't as smooth as they should be, but thats probably because I burn at 8x)
Motocross Mania 3 [PAL] (patched w/ NO Y-FIX, because display is glitched otherwise)
Ghost in the Shell [PAL] (patched w/ NO Y-FIX because the in-game screen positioning is better)
Gran Turismo 3 [USA]
Resident Evil Outbreak: File 2 [USA]
Midnight Club 3 [USA]
Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana [USA]

PS2: older USA model (~3 yrs old, 8 screw)
Burner: LITEON DVDRW SOHW-1673S
Media: 8x Maxell (002) DVD +R (6x/8x ONLY!)
Burn Speed: 8x
Software: SM 2.0 & DVD Decrypter
