I've been tinkering with this, and haven't found a way around all these blooming errors.
I'm ashamed towards the pitiful mods this forum has, people here have questions, you're not answering with enough descriptive detail, although abiding by the forum rules and making sure members do so.
These questions aren't being answered, because the ones with the answers don't explain the answer with enough detail for us Java-Brainless people to understand.
Now someone explain how to get around the Compile.Bat Error, the walkthrough/tutorial is out of date and does not help.

If you, in ignorance, want to be "ashamed towards me" (whatever that means) for doing my job here then fine, go ahead. Our relatively few rules here are about as simple as simple gets so don't give me grief because so many folks aren't smart enough to follow even simple rules like ours.
As for me "not answering with enough descriptive detail" - did you even think before posting that? Did it ever cross your mind that I don't play Runescape. Did it ever cross your mind that in moderating a site like this with a broad spectrum of topics I also moderate forums that aren't in my area of expertise and therefore don't have answers to every question? Did it ever cross your mind that this site provides free help with no obligations for anyone to answer every question?
There are plenty of forums that result in an instant ban for questioning or trashing mods in the forums - I'll leave you with the warning that if you have a problem with me then take it up in pm's.

Nephilim is, as usual, right. No one here has ANY obligation to reply to your questions, and as they have been answered multiple times (and are even in the original article, if you bothered to read it) I highly doubt anyone is going to bother.

Okay, its time I stepped in and cleared up some confusion. *Sigh*
It would seem that the bulk of people are using Windows and still running into problems, which is why I have taken this time to make a good, detailed guide that will hopefully be of some use.
IF YOU FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS AS THEY ARE PRESENTED TO YOU, I GUARENTEE YOU WILL HAVE A WORKING RUNESCAPE SERVER
The absolute first thing are going to need in order to do this is your Desktop. Its wonderfully helpful for storing things. I suggest making a new folder (right click -> new -> New Folder) and naming it something like "Runescape Stuff"
It is in this folder that you will dowload the server and the client.
For those of you with no memory span at all, the links are as follows:
The Server: http://mmorpg.ragezone.com/Runescape/20051104-server.rar
The Client: http://mmorpg.ragezone.com/Runescape/rsprivservclient.rar
Download both of these into your "Runescape Stuff" folder. If, for any reason, you are not smart enough to download them correctly - please abandon all hopes of owning your own server and go donate your computer at the nearest goodwill.
Once download, extract the contents of the 20051104-server.rar into a new folder within the "Runescape Stuff" folder. Lets call it something catchy and original - "Server Stuff." Now that you've done that - DON'T touch any of it until instructed to do so.
Now go ahead and extract the rsprivservclient.rar to a new folder within the "Runescape Stuff" folder. We'll call it (you may guess this one) "Client Stuff"
Go ahead and right click on your rsprivservclient (the one with the neat icon) and use your "Send to" option to send it to the desktop as a shortcut. If you want, you can go ahead and rename the shortcut (the one on the desktop) to "Runescape".
Now for the most important part! You need to get a Java SDK (service developers kit) from the link I am about to give you. Don't panic - its free. But before I give you the link there are a few things that you need to know:
1)to save bandwidth, the makers of the SDK do not give out the full link, but rather an odd little java-based downloader thing.
2)When the option to Save or Run appears, go ahead and run, it is very small and a flash screen will apear momentarily.
3)When the flash screen fades away, a few windows will pop up as it prepares to connect to the site and fetch the file you will need. Just keep agreeing and clicking okay/next (or whatever you have to do - if you've ever installed anything I'm sure you can figure this out.)
4)It will eventually come to a screen that has a file window (only one file should show, and that is the SDK install file), go ahead and click start (lower left).
5)Depending on the speed of your connection, the file may take several minutes. Sorry about that, but its the only way for you to obtain the needed java compiler program Javac.java - without it the server cannot run.
6)Once the download thingy is done, the install file will be saved to your computer (for most people, this is going to be saved either on the desktop, or the "My Documents" folder), find this intallation program and run it all the way through. The installation will take a little time to appear, be patient.
Okay do you think you have all that understood? You MUST, and I repeat MUST follow the steps as I have presented them to you, otherwise you will incounter errors. But, if you feel that you are ready, you can go ahead and use the steps I just went over to install your SDK, which, for this purpose, will be Netbeans: (Make sure to select Windows at the bottum, then click the download bar)
(If for any reason the link does not work, go to www.sun.com and in the search bar to the top right search for "Java SDK", a listing will appear with tabs at the top. Click on the "download" tab and click on the top listing. You will have the choice of Netbeans (to the left) and another item (to the right). I've tried both, netbeans is easier - just use it. A window will appear with a bunch of options and list of stuff, click on the first "Download" option below the "Japanese" option towards the top right. You'll have to click a little round button that says you agree to something (some legal gumbo), then a window will appear asking you to select your platform (which will be windows for the bulk of people, which is the last one in the list), select your platform and click the orange bar below.)
Once your SDK installation is finished, find the "j2sdk1.4.2_13" folder, usually located at C:\j2sdk1.4.2_13 which you can access via the "My Computer" option. Inside of it you will find a good number of folders and some other stuff. Open the "bin" folder. You should now be in C:\j2sdk1.4.2_13\bin and if you look around you will notice something very important - the JAVAC file!!!! Woot! MINIMIZE THIS WINDOW - DON'T CLOSE IT.
Now, you need to copy everything in your "Server Stuff" Folder (for those of you who got distracted by your family pet and have no idea what I'm talking about, its in your "Runescape Stuff" folder on your desktop. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO COPY EVERYTHING IN THE FOLDER, BUT NOT THE FOLDER ITSELF. Once you've copied everything go back to your C:\j2sdk1.4.2_13\bin folder (which should be minimized) and paste everything in it. Presuming you don't fail at life, if you highlight everything in the folder and rightclick on one of the files, the click on properties it should say "Size: 1.45 MB (1,530,837 bytes)"
Don't worry about the "Size on Disk" thing, thats some technical stuff.
Now, before we do anything, you need to locat the "Compile" file you just copied into the "bin" folder. Double click on it and wait about a minute before closing it. DO NOT CLOSE THE FOLDER, THERE IS STILL MORE WORK TO BE DONE!
Once you've compilied your server (you'll notice that you got no errors ^^) you need to locate the "Run" bat file that you just copied over and right click on it. Send it to the desktop as a shortcut. If you want, you can rename it "Server"
Are you ready for this?
Close everything out and get back to your desktop. You should have two shortcuts there, one for the Run.bat, and one for the client application thingy (neat icon). Double click on the shortcut for run. Another black window will appear saying it has started blackscape server - DO NOT CLOSE THIS, MINIMIZE IT. Now go ahead and click on your client. A familiar Runescape game window will open up. Put anything you want in the user name (please note these are case sensitive, meaning that "player" and "Player" will get two different characters). And under server put 127.0.0.1 and click log in.
You will appear in varrock in your own server, it shouldn't take you too long to become disatisfied with how buggy things are though. But fear not. I am working with a great group of 5 other technitions who are dedicated to updating this server client, bringing back the monsters and NPCs, and getting things running as they should. It will take some time but we are dedicated to doing it, even if it means translating everything to PEARL.

Do realize that I never specified you. I have no fear of the moderators here, they have no power over me, why should I fear speaking my mind?
Plus I'm not "Trashing" the mods here, I'm simply saying their doing a poor job at explaining something that most people can't understand because of their low IQ.
You say, I didn't quite read the read thoroughly the directions, yet I see you can barely read my simple post.

And possibly your low IQ is keeping your miniscule mind from grasping the thought that I haven't a care in the world.

Oh, where to begin... RareG, was it? Oh well, whatever. The point is this:
1)Mods are not here to serve as tech support for your failure to understand directions on something such as setting up a server. (Because lets be honest, if I were a mod, I don't think I'd have the time, or the computer, to learn how to do EVERYTHING discussed in these forums. Plus, they're job is simply to make sure you obey the rules of the forum. Simple. Don't expect someone to know everything about everything just cause they mod a forum. I wrote a more comprehensive guide to setting up this server and I STILL don't claim to know everything about everything.)
2)You have NO right to disrespect the people who maintain a service you use. None whatsoever. If you hosted your own RS server and modded over it, as you're planning to do, how would you feel if you didn't know everything everyone asked you and I blamed you for your ignorance? You'd be mad at me. You're looking at a ban (or so I would think) if you keep pushing people around. Espeacially people with a bit of power over you.
3)This is my main issue: If you don't understand something, try a bit harder. What good has it done you to annoy the moderator? None! You've just showed your immaturity by throwing a fit when your failure to understand directions kept your from getting your way. Wah,wah, wahh.
All of that being said, take a little time to think before you decide to place blame on innocent people. Grow up.

Yeah, but you're missing the point that they infact do have power over you. Also, please don't go on about IQ levels, because mine is undoubtably higher than that of yourself.
And if you don't have a care in the world, then you're obviously insecure. Lol. Also, why are you still posting if you don't care? It's not as if anyone cares about you on here; I mean you're arugueing with me in a thread about RuneScape, Lol.

I haven't a care about runescape, back then I was VERY bored. >_>;
Also, I experience fun from annoying the other people around me.
Vicious, I would not get mad if you decided to call me ignorant within my own server. I don't get mad over such petty things, I'd simply insult you back and be on my way again.
Plus annoying the ones with power over me is EVEN MORE fun then annoying those without power.
I know they have power over me, you fail to comprehend what I meant. They do have power over me, but if I don't care, it doesn't matter, now does it?
Lastly, vicious, your the one crying. :3

RareG, I see now the error of my ways. I though, perhapes, you were actually an reasonable individual, when I see now that you are not. I perhapes should have first taken the hint that you were just looking to get on people's nerves when you failed to note what exactly IQ is.
(Which, for the record, does not reflect your intelligence, but rather your ability to learn with ease. Going further on that note, I would assume that since you never bothered to learn that fact, or at least distinguish the difference, your IQ must be loitering somewhere around room temperature in Alaska, but I digress. After all, who am I to say that a person with no ability to use google and clear up they're confusion about a simple server set-up is unable/unwilling to learn? If that person chooses the path of inanity (new word for you: it means "Pointlessness") than I just have to assume that person hopes to never succeed at life and just wallow in the wretchedness of his own ignorance.)
So I suppose that you were right, perhapes for the first and last time in your life. It is I who may cry at the end of this. It really is heartbreaking to see mentally deficient people such as yourself run rampit with no one to care for them or guide them. "Where is daddy now, RareG? Where is daddy now?"
-LOL, and thus, my evil belittling is done. To the ignore section with you, insolent fool. I'll pay you no more mind.

Do your words of ignorance help you sleep at night? A good laugh from words you hardly can even understand.
My, you have to look in the dictionary just to make sure you're using the words correctly.
Your meaningless assumptions will bring you nothing but a life of failure.
Leave the grown-ups alone, kay? Go play in some traffic.

Oh wonderful. As I see it, you're the ignorant one. Your "I don't care" attitude does not wash with me, nor will it with anyone else.
Who said anything about dictionarys? Something playing on your mind? Guilty conscience? I, for one, don't need to refer to a dictionary at any point; especially when I'm chewing people like yourself.
And our "assumptions" are not meaningless. My assumption that you are a waste of space, is definitely not meaningless. Also, I very much doubt a life off faliure is what I am headed for. I could ramble on about how vastly intelligent, for my age, I am, but I won't waste my breath. Oh, I'm 15 By the way.
Leave you alone? Why would I do that? I enjoy the company/conversation of adults more than that of children my own age anyway; usually because they are of a higher intellect than a child. Apparently you are not. Still, it's fun outwitting adults that are less well off than myself intellectually. As for going to play in some traffic, I think I'll pass, thanks.

If you'll scroll up a bit and reflect on the guide, I have provided you with all the links are downloads. No single download for any of the items are more than 100 MB, in fact I think the largest download is of the SDK which comes in somewhere around 40 MB. You will need every download I've provided to rune the server, but totaled together they can all fit on one CD about 6 times each. (So they're all pretty small.)
There are a few things you may want to note:
1) What your downloading is a Runescape Private Server Client, an SDK, and an UNDEVELOPED Server. This server is just buildings, trees, and land - no monsters, NPCs, or spawinging items. All of that has to be programmed in.
2) This server download is NOT open-source. Meaning it is a little hard to edit, but with Notepad and a good java program (such as eclipse from eclipse.org) you should be able to make it work just fine in time.
3) Your client is adaptable, which means you can log into any private server with it. This includes BlakeScape (What my guide walks you through), MoparScape (a slightly pre-programed server application), CamScape, and a few others - all of which usually feature the word 'Scape'.
4) You may want to look into downloading a Dynamic Update Client (DUC) from somewhere like no-ip.com and registering with them, its free. This will keep people from having to know your IP address to play, instead, they could just type in something like this: 'HackScape.no-ip.org' and it would automaticly send them to you.
I'll discuss further tidbits later. Good luck for now.

Neatbeans is what you want, that the SDK. The file is not really very big. I think it was like, 40MB? Somewhere in there. Anyway, if your on anything faster than dial-up it should take no more than six minutes.
I included directions to follow in the event my SDK (netbeans) link failed to work, perhapes they would be of more assistance to you. In any case, once the installer is downloaded, run it and it will install two file directories onto your computer. One of these is netbeans (leave well enough alone), and the other is your SDK. When the installer program asks where you want to save files two, the directory path displayed in the bottom box is the route to your SDK. Within it, you will find a bin folder, and you can then continue with my directions.
Goodluck.
