I took a chance and used ANYDVD on the FLY in the background. I normally rip the movie in question to the HD first. It saves time. However, for this test I wantted to keep it as simple as possible.

I recently used DVD Rebuilder on a movie and it beefed up the file from 7GB to 9GB. Why does it do that? How can I put it on a single layer dvd? DVD Shrink says I need to put it on two dvd's. What's the point on wasting 4 hours encoding a dvd if you cannot burn it? Can someone explain the purpose of DVD ReBuilder or the other CCE Rippers such as DVDMaestro and Scenarist NT.

If DVD-RB created a file that big -- you've configured it wrong, plain and simple. You've probably used the wrong encoder in one of the CCE choices and it is outputting constant bitrate.
I don't want to be too sensitive -- but please don't blame the software for a self inflicted error.

Every one, not most, but EVERY one of my movies from using RB/CCE come out between 4.2 and 4.3 gigs. And I've done a lot. You have definitely done something wrong, probably in your setup.
Are you using a trial version of CCE?

No, I'm using CCE Sp 2.67. Under custom settings, I have VBR Bias at 30, Quality Perc at 20, and Pass at 4. I also have CCE SP (V2.5) selected. I used the tutorial here: http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdrb.htm . I wasn't blaming the software either, I knew something was wrong, just couldn't figure it out. Should I only burn the movie and no extras? Could that be it? Any thoughts???

Until recently, it was burn the extras and everything else. Movie only choices were off limits unless you were skilled at editing with tools such as DVDremake. With Remake I was able to backup multi angled movies that would have otherwise been off limits, but then jdobbs fixed it. Some of us wanted movie only choices and jdobbs began the fix for that too.
Alas jdobbs has had to put up with all of us and our requests, such as the one where we could all teleport instantly to the planet zentrarium. I can't say for certain if we've affected any of his choices in features but we sure as hell tried. LOL
Your problem is most likely one of setup, software, and versions. Take it slow and reread the guide and you should be alright. If not then gather as much information (system hardware, burning software, operating system ,memory amount and speed) as you can and then post here.

You are using CCE SP 2.67, but have CCE SP (v2.5) selected.... your problem is in your answer. If you are using CCE SP 2.67, you should select CCE SP... the CCE SP (2.50) is only for that version (because its setup is different than all others).

You'll find that courteous queries will result in courteous responses. Being demanding doesn't work with freeware developers.

Again, if you ask the right question, it will be answered. A word of note, jdobbs accepts donations and to find out how to donate just open RB. Go to help, choose about, and then you'll see the info to proceed with making a donation.
A couple of dollars goes a long ways toward good will, especially if someone is freely giving their time. If you donate you'll get VIP status and the info to download the latest verson of RB, a full 30 days before it's released to the public. You'll be able to answer questions about RB before others can ask them.

Thanks everybody, it seems to be working now. I did have the wrong one selected but like I said, I was just following the tutorial. But it looks like it is working. I like the program, just not used to it. I'm a newbie.

Just one thing to add about that statement. Sometimes jdobbs comes out with a new version before you have a chance to ask about the previous one. As in the case of .71 and .72, what was it, one day? LOL
jdobbs, keep up the good work buddy, it's an awesome program. And as soph mentioned you've done a tremendous job in "granting" all of our impossibly numerous requests ;>)

Whoa, let me see if I understand this correctly. The latest version of DVD-RB allows movie mode only, meaning that it'll automatically rip the extras without the hassle of using Remake? If this is true then I no longer have to use Remake which is definitely a plus and if so what'll be a good amount of $ to donate. VIP status is looking good right about now. ;-)

Minor Update:
I have been attempting how to identify the conditions that caused the run-time error I was getting in TROY and one other movie.
The run-time error is always caused by the movie ripper (DVD Decryptor). While the movie can be transcoded with other tools, DVD-RB seems to have an error with select titles using this method. It would be nice for DVD-RB to check for possible conditions that might cause rebuilding to fail before the 4+ transcode time.
It looks like the odd ripps are the movie companies doing there best to be annoying.

I can't even see the trees in DVDrebuilder much less a forest.
I wasn't aware of a movie only option.

Hmmm....I believe I may have contributed to the confusion, I was responding to Gnomex's use of the word "rip" extras when he meant "edit" extras using DvdReMake.
I can see that this may have added to the confusion of "movie only" which he mentioned earlier in the post.
I shoulda gone to bed one post sooner,LOL.
