[whompus] has given you the correct hookup. The VCR WILL HAVE TO BE ON reguardless when using it with the ilo. If you wish to use the VCR while using the ILO seperatly this would require a different hookup and most likely a video/Audio switgh box
I Have a VCR prior to the ILO and from the ILO to a TV as [whompus] has stated. This is a standard connection.
My system is mono to begin with. I use the tuner in the VCR because Its first in line. I do not have any issue with the tuner in the ILO
I can record from The VCR, TV, etc. with no problem. YOU must have an improper connection or a bad cable

I don't know what type of service you have but it can't be satellite.
If you need a signal amplifier In the RF line, the siginal level must be very low. If your service is cable? You need to call them. If its you own ant. OK, one tuner or another could make a differance. With such a service my Sony TV is Not as good as my Sanyo

I don't think it is the cable. I have other TV"s, VCR's, DVD players, and another DVD recorder that I don't have any problem with. It is only the ilo that has a tuner problem with the cable system that I use. I thought tuner problems with the ilo was a problem that a lot of people had.

Most of the problems people where reporting with the tuner was the audio being mono. If you live in a hot spot of rf noise (like I do) you may be getting interference.
Those amplifiers are ok if you already have one. I did not when my multisystem tv was getting outside rf noise. I found that most of those amplifier boxes are simply high pass filters (hpf) in to spliter (if has more then 1 out). I got some hpf that hooks on to the back of the unit and the cable hooks to it. I think I got them from radioshack. It looks like a long in line splicer but has male 1 end and female other end. Have had no problem after that.

Well as I've said I do not have an issue with the Ilo tuner. I do not use it because of my hookup. I have satellite service and I have tried the ilo tuner on practectly every chanel [there is a lot] and the ILO tuner works fine. If you have solved your problems and the system is working ok for you, thats all that counts.

yeah i have cable i think theres just a prob with the tuner on my tv cause our living room tv is hooked up to the same spliter under the house and has a vcr hooked up with pretty good reception and when i tried to hook up a vcr a while back to my tv it show'd pretty crappy. the way we have it hooked up is a 4 way splitter going to 2 tv's and a cable modem, and a 3 way splitter which goes to my tv and 2 others, i was thinking about getting a 8-way splitter from amazon.com u think that would help?
also when i play xbox live or download anything (since i use cable modem) my tv gets i guess what you would call static lines, these white static lines that are as wide as the screen and movie downward through the screen. but when i take out the signal amplifier directly it shows reguraly. i was wonder ing if any one would know if i use a amplifer that is bidirectional like this one http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&categor... from radioshack would help.
thanks, kevin (magic chef)

I got my Ilo Ro4 yesterday and had trouble with a fuzzy ch.6 on the tuner. After trying to use the "fine" tune from the menu to no avail, I decided to reverse the coax inputs and outputs, and that solved the problem. That is, on the back of the unit I connected the RF out to the TV, and RF in to the antenna. The picture in the instuction book shows the opposite. I then use the RCA jack #3 inputs from my Direct TV, and all is fine.
The only thing that I don't like is that local channels pass through when the unit is off, but direct TV does not. I have to use the A/V out from the Ilo to only AV in on my TV to receive the Ilo output. The coax input on my TV only receives the antenna signal, even though I have the coax out from the Ilo to the coax in on the TV hooked up.

Ever since I hooked my ilo up using the VCR tuner, the sound has been kind of strange. Sort of like the, in a barrel sound that some cordless phones and cell phones have. But it was not a big problem. The last couple of days the sound has had a lot of static, sort of a frying sound that is so bad you can hardly understnd what the people talking on the TV are saying.
Again this problem is only with the ilo, no problem with any of the others on the same cable system.
Anyone else had any sound problems with ilo.
Thanks....motorcycl

BTW, I just finished the update on my Ilo R04 by burning Guitarman's hack to a CDRW, placing it into the tray, and it updated automatically. I just had to follow directions. Very easy.

Does this need to be unziped before it is burned to disk? Or do you just download and copy to CD? Didn't someone say it was better to use CD-R, rather than CD-RW disk.
Thanks

If you are downloading for the R04, the files are not zipped. The only zipped file on my site are for the 5045.
Yes, you can use a CD-RW but Yes, it's better to use a CD-R. You just need to make sure that there are no other files on the disc or it will not work.
To help with noise in the tuner, there is an option in setup to fine tune each channel. Try making this adjustment on the channels that have the most noise. It may help some. Also, try placing the recorder away from other electronic and power sources. That could help eleviate some of the hum.

I discovered something that should have been obvious, but just never occurred to me at the time.
If you set up the ilo to record several different programs, and are using a VCR for the tuner. It will record all of them off of the same channel. You can't record from several different channels. What ever channel the VCR is on, is the only one it will record from. I found this out the hard way. Missed some programs that I really wanted to record.
Now a question. I can only get my ilo to set up to record five different programs. Is five all it has? If not, how do I find the others. When I press the Timer Record button it only shows five. I can't get it to go to another page, or what ever is next, if there is more.
Thanks for listening

Guitarman,
Do you know if there are going to be any more HD04's. I have never seen one in any of the area stores. I have been to a couple of larger towns lately, and they have a empty spot on the shelf for them, but none on hand. It looks like they would take the display sign down if they are not going to get any more. They haven't been listed on the Walmart web site in several months.
Does any one know if there are any stores that still have them in the North Mississippi, West Tennessee, or North Alabama area?
Thanks

Hi motorcycl
Sounds like you may be close to Corinth. Have you checked the super center there? I have a friend that got one from there 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Hi whompus,
Yes I am in the Corinth area. I check the local Super Center several times a week. I have never seen any kind of DVD Recorder with a Hard Drive. I was suprised that the never had one. When the R05's first came out the had both the, 04 and 05 for a few weeks. Now they only have the R05.
Last week I was in Florence and Tupel. They both still had the display sign up, but the shelf was empty. Florence only had the R05, and Tupelo only had the R04. They both had a Panasonic DVD-VCR combo Recorder for $298.00. This must be a new item, but it is not listed on the web site. I check it every day to see what is new. They have three new HUMAX TiVo's listed. Can these be used just as DVD Recorder, or do the only work with TiVo?
Try to keep it on the straight and narrow....motorcycl

Cool. I grew up there myself. I moved away several years ago. Get back to visit several times a year. It will always be home. About the humax I am not sure about them. I would think the dvd part of it will work like any but the hard drive part my be for tivo only. If it is it should come with at least tivo basic. Maybe google it to see what others are saying about it.

Hi. Saw the messages asking about the lack of stock for ILO HD recorders in the stores. I learned from Walmart that they are completely out of stock, even their on-line store. They had misunderstood my question and thought that my shipment was lost. They told me they would not be able to send me another. Since it wasn't lost during shipment, I was very fortunate to get one of the last ones.
When I called in to the ILO Tech people with a question, I asked them if the hard drive model was being replaced by an "05" model or if it is discontinued altogether. He didn't know.
So, that's why the stores don't have the hard drive model anymore. I sure hope they aren't discontinuing it. I think it is excellent. My first one had problems, but this second one is great.

Motorcycl,
I saw a number of HD04s last Thursday at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Naples, Florida. The phone number is 239-455-1131. Maybe they'll ship it to your neighborhood store or directly to you. The manager is Adam Cohen

Thanks Jim,
I called them. The manager was not in, but I talked to someone else. He said if the local store had it in their system, they could send it to them, but I would have to pay the shipping. If it is not in the system they can't send it. Also they don't do credit cards over the phone, so they can't send it directly to me. I will check with the local store tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Hi Everyone,
Walmart has the ilo DVDHR04 back on the website, and it is their number one seller. Does the RH04 have the same crappy tuner as the R04, or does it have a better one. By the way the website has the R04 on close out for $95.00. They are probably going to drop it when they are all gone.
Has anyone got both the R05 and the R04 that can do a comparison?
Walmart has also added the Panasonic DMR-EH50S with 100GB Hard Drive $428.00

Gtrman,
I bought a LiteOn LVW-5045, downloaded and installed your hacked firmware, and have had not one single problem! I have copied DVDs, VHS tapes, and off-the-air TV shows. I have edited out ads, divided files (haven't used "merge" yet, though I will after I have recorded all the episodes of the "Empire" mini-series), recorded edited files to DVD-R disks (Memorex) which play on the LiteOn, my computer, and three different makes of DVD players I have tried. All flawlessly. I have not tried any other DVD formats, because the -Rs seem to be the cheapest whenever I buy them. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Just wanted to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

motorcycl,
Yes, it does have the same tuner but the editing features that come with the HD04 are more than worth it. The price on the LiteOn 5045 has also been coming down in price. I think it is $299.00 on Costco's website. May be worth the extra to get the +/- r/rw and 160gig HDD.

I agree the the editing features in the iLO are fantastic. I'm a newbie to DVD recording. In fact, I never even played a DVD before purchasing the ilo with hard drive. I find the editing to be extremely user friendly. I took a couple of shows I wanted to keep that I recorded and took out all the commercials and then merged together the edited parts as I went. It's easy! When I record a Pay-Per-View movie I purchase on the satellite, I record that directly to my hard drive, edit out the previews of other movies, then copy it to a DVD for my library.
I wish it could record both plus and minus like the Lite-on, but I can't have everything. I bought it about 30 days ago when the price between the two was a bit greater. Besides, I just made sure that the regular DVD Player I bought for upstairs will play both Minus and Plus ... it does ... it's a Sony. Probably should have waited since the iLO without hard drive is now only $95! I like my iLO, though ... it's a keeper. And THANK YOU GUITRMAN for all your help.
