Any luck with D2 of Spiderman 2 SE, I'm interested to hear how it turned out. (How many passes, and DVD-RB settings, Quality Precision etc.)

I have a question about setting the quality prec and bias in DVD/RB 0.69. I'm using CCE SP 2.66!
Mine is set to: quality prec 16,VBR bias 25, 2 pass
AVG bitrate 3.700 kb/s
When i made a backup of TROY movie only in the fight scenes there is a litle noise around the objects! If i set higher value for quality prec...maybe 28 should this problem dissapear???
And can somebady tell me quality prec value, that turns out to be the best for LOTR ROTK, please ?????

Tried to use DVD-Rebuild for the first time could not get it to encode. I have matched up all the settings according to the guide. I installed Cinema Craft Encoder SP (CCE) v2.70.02.00 Trial. Under Options set to CCE Trial. Under patch CCE New pointed to the Eclcce.exe
Tried to execute the Eclcce and point it toward the CCE executable and it does not support this version of CCE.
Is there a later version of EcLcce or a older version of CCE SP Trial I can use.
DVD-RB 0.74
(CCE) v2.70.02.00 Trial
EclCCE 1.81

Point directly to the CCE executable. ECLCCE isn't needed with CCE v2.70. But I think there may have been a report of that version halting waiting for a prompt sometimes .... try it and see what happens.

Jerry77 posted something interesting, I do remember that for the latest version of CCE the precision settings had to be changed. What are the recommended settings for 2.70+ & versions before that again? -_-

Quality Prec for SP 2.70 is 16 in RB, but the setting is very forgiving. I've used settings to 24 and the results were excellent.

A buffer overrun is difficult to analyse and the fixes for it have varied. Defragging the hard disk has worked, an error in setup has caused this, and most recently I've even heard of a virus that can cause it. My advice is to start your setup from scratch and defrag your hard disk and then try again. A buffer overrun means that something in the transfer data isn't keeping up.
I'm curiuos what are your PC specs?

I tried Quality Prec for SP 2.70 at 24, and found a drop in quality, I tried it against quality prec 16 2 passes, 3 passes and 6 passes, and the notable difference was 6 passes were prec 24 was considerably lower quality. Anyone found better quality from changing to 24 prec?

The quality precedence setting decides priority among image areas which the encoder assigns to allocate the bit amount. In DVD-RB a value of 0 to 64 can be specified. It's important that you think about it on that scale, because different versions of CCE use different scales. DVD-RB will interpret the 0-64 value to the proper scale for the specific CCE version.
The initial value is 16. As the value becomes closer to 0, a higher bit amount is allocated to complicated images areas. As the value becomes closer to 64, a higher bit amount is allocated to flat image areas. When the value is close to 0, the mosquito noise at the edges (noise causing hazy part along the edges, looking like flying mosquitoes) is less outstanding, but the contouring noise (noise which looks like contour line patterns, which appear in flat and wide areas, such as a dark background) is more outstanding. The opposite occurs when the value is closer to 64.
I've found that the 16 setting is best for most encoding sessions.
(Some of this text is "borrowed" from the CCE manual)

Hi jdobbs,
the mosquito noise at the edges is the effect I got, I tried it on one of the LOTR_SEE which are a full 8gig, the changes from one interview to another showed these mosquito noise. The 16 prec showed no such affect, and seemed to be of simular visual quality in all other areas, Well with my tv and pc setup in any case, which is what matters to me.
I also found that image quality was not noticable better with any extra passes from 3 to 6, 2 to 3 was beter and 3 to 6 passes better again but in between I could see no improvement. With the documentries I dont mind the Cincraft log so I have been doing 6 pass on them, with great results. Although the each disk was not totaly consistant in quality even though they are simular size.
It great testing but the time involved is extreem.
Nolos.
PS I think I just became your newest VIP member, thank you for your great programe, it will save many of my prized DVDs from distruction from the evil children. LOL

I downloaded the latest version of DVD-RB which was just released and tried the Spidey 2 D2 again and well it went a little further this time. It stopped at 70% with #0004 error. I understand you're quite busy but I did notice that the disc has lots of multi angle clips, 4 in fact and a composite clip with all playing at once. Still interested on whether or not you got this to work? ;-)

Are we talking about Spiderman 2 Bonus disc? I thought I'd zoomed right through it -- but in fact it has multiple angles that need the ILVU encoding feature I'm working on.
I don't understand the #0004 error... I do several discs a day in testing (I have over 500 in my collection), and I haven't seen a #0004 error in months.
If not Spiderman 2 Bonus, which movie is giving you problems?
