heres the intro from that programs manual..

"As many of you are probably aware, the PS2 has problems running DVD9 games backed up onto dual layer media due to to problems reading from the second layer. This is because the data format on burnt DL discs is different than on pressed discs (burnt = OTP, pressed = PTP). However, we have discovered a software hack which allows the PS2 to read even burnt OTP discs resulting in
working dual layer backups! Our Toxic firmware for DMS4 chips already includes auto-patching functionality which applies our software hack on the fly when
booting games on dual layer media. For those without a DMS4, we present the Toxic Dual Layer Image Patcher! The patcher works by applying our software hack to the game image (.iso, .gi etc) before burning. Once the hack has been applied by our patcher, burn the modified image to dual layer media
and play! This method will enable anybody with a modchip capable of booting DVD9 media to backup and _play_ DVD9 games such as Gran Turismo 4."

I once were like many of you, trying to make a backup copy of GoW 2. Realizing the headache, and the many intricacies associated with it, I've decided to just d/l the damn thing. After 21 hours later, it was in my possession, and it works great.

There is a way of booting dual-layer dvd's using swap magic, without reducing the toc size before you burn the disc.

When you're at the swap magic screen, eject the dvd, then insert an original dual-layer dvd with a high toc. Put that in, then when the disc stops spinning, put your dual-layer backup in the drive.

A good dual-layer game to use as a very high-toc for swapping, would be Champions of Norrath. It had a 8.2 gig toc size. Simply eject the SMD DVD when your at the boot screen, insert the Champions of Norrath disc, wait fro it to load, then swap it out for your dual-layer disc.
This game can be found quite cheap on eBay.
And of course, you can also play Champions of Norrath. I don't play it, I bought it just so that I can play dual-layer games with Swap Magic.

From tests I've run, this method works with both of my Swap Magic sets (Swap magic 3.6, and Swap Magic 3.8 CODER).

The only thing that gets me, is why they can't simply ship three discs with Swap Magic; A 702mb CD version, a 4.35 gig single-layer DVD version, and an 8.5 gig dual-layer DVD version.

Enjoy
