There was definitely no firewall etc. in the way but it wouldn't work with just the LAN cable. So I also connected the crossover serial cable too and it worked fine. Some form of setup interaction must be taking place over the serial but the image definitely went over the LAN cable (could tell by how quick it was).
In case anyone else is trying this, this was a case of where I lost the Dbox's image. So the Dbox was just in debug mode. I needed BOTH cross-over (null modem) and cross-over LAN cables. IFA then flashed the new image perfectly.
Thanks to everyone who helped.
Regards,
Ed

I have fixed plenty of "kein system" sagems & nokias with ONLY the crossover LAN, the other is not essential at all. Follow the guides at www.techno-source.co.uk for how to use IFA correctly, without the need to restart each time flashing doesnt work right away.

It depends at the circumstances.
You get only one bootp request via lan cable only.
If you use a additional nullmodem cable IFA force the bootloader via nullmodem to try 10 times.
It the network card reacts a little bit slow the first bootp request could be lost.

I have a problem!!
I have a sagem box that I flashed lastnight for the first time.
Just a few minutes ago I reflashed the box and now when I boot up the
box it freezes at loading kernel.
I also have a nokia box and when i try to boot up this box it gets past loading kernel but then goes into standby mode,Ive tried rebooting many times but the box keeps going into standby
Blade running on both boxes.
Can anyone please help it would be much appreciated

Reflash the boxes with different images first, i think Commando is generally recommended for the Nokias, and Blade for Sagems.

Depends on what the brother in law has loaded onto it, if he is in the same area as you I would expect he will have put a copy of his own image on it, might take 20mins to decode the channels first time, then work from then on in.

If your feed is connected to the next chorus mmds mast you get also mmds.
Check your sagem box and look at the sticker at the underside what you get.

Box and pc must be in the same subnet.
If box and pc are connected to a router with dhcp, enable dhcp in the network menue at the box, restart the network and do a network test. You can see the box ip in the test output. Use that IP.
If box and pc are connected directly via crossover network cable, the pc card need a fixed IP and the box ip in the network menue must have the same first 3 ranges than the pc. Only the last one must be different.
Userid is root and password is dbox2 for ftp.

You need a crossover network cable with crossed wires for a direct connection between box and pc. A normal 1:1 wired patch cable is not working for a direct connection between end devices.
A patch cable is only working for a connection via router or network switch.

Hi there - bought a Nokia Dbox2 from Germany, all the "cable providers" are german. Based on what I have read on the forums here, i think there is an image on dbox but it doesnt have the correct service files?
I'm not the best on computers / tech stuff. Is there anyone based in Dublin who could update this Dbox for me? Obviously willing to pay for service.

Where abouts are you? I could probably come out, how much are you willing to pay? I have cables I can give you and teach you how to do it yourself in future if you want.
Lads in buy&sell and other sites seem to charge ~?30 to update starviews.

yep, and then change to RTE1 and wait for 5-30mins, do not change channels, it might be blank, it can take this long to decode them again (I heard in the UK it can be overnight). If a dbox is plugged out for a long time it can need this.

Well got dbox and all is well, got 143 channels and the picture is perfect no problems. Just that you have to set your panel to auto on screen aspect as some come in in smal letter box view.
Is there more channels that 143?
Also tried spilting it to another room lastnight,do you have to go into the menu to turn on the second RF out?
Thanks in advance!
