I've been following as much of this thread as possible, but I still can't figure out one thing.
Why should one prefer to use DGDecode.dll over MPEG2Dec3dg.dll?
What are the differences? I mean, meaningfull stuff.

Check out http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec.html for what they do, they're decoder plugins. DGDecode is simply the updated version of MPEG2Dec3dg. Here is what the neuron site says.
Quote:
I have created fixed versions of DVD2AVI and MPEG2DEC3 that solve these problems, as well as provide a lot of very useful new features. To avoid confusion, these are renamed as DGIndex and DGDecode respectively.
DGDecode is upgraded to work better with the 2.5 version of AviSynth. Nothing mysterious, one is the later version of the other. They changed the names to prevent confusion. Is that confusing enough? ;) As I said, you can get more on the particulars from the neuron2 site. Check out the home page there, you'll find some useful links.

Ok, just the fact that one is a newer version of the other is good enough for me :)

I managed to download the 1.20 version by substituting the 1 in '1.21' for a 0 on the Neutron site.
Seemed to work, just hope I got the right version.

So versions later don't work? That's too bad. But how about support with 3rd party tools like NuMenu4u? Will it work if I just replace DVD2AVI with the DGIndex? (obviously renaming it first).

It seems to be 1.20, that's fine.
What I'm wondering now is this:

If DGDecode.dll and DGIndex belong together like MPEG2Dec3dg.dll belongs to DVD2AVI, can I just exchange the decoding .dll's and expect my setup to work completely normal? (I use NuMenu4U with RB78)

What sort of differences would I see between the CCE SP version 2.67 and 2.70.20? I would be mostly concerned with quality of encodes...

P.S. I think I got my problem figured out, I was using an older version of avisynth and a trial version of the CCE encoder that appeared to be faulty. I am now using a version that works, thanks to jdobbs and brobear for your help.

For working with Rebuilder, you'll probably notice little if any difference between the 2 versions.

You're welcome, glad to see you got the problem resolved. The CCE Basic is only $58. So, if you like the RB setup, it might be an idea to go with that. Basic (Retail) is sound and does a good job. For a $10 (or more) donation to jdobbs, you get on the VIP list where you get the latest releases of the PRO version of RB. The new version .80 came with a free encoder the guys are checking out now. Some of those "trials" off the net can get to be a problem sometimes, as you recently found out. Good luck.

After I get done encoding and rebuilding the next step is to burn. Using Nero how should I go about this? Simply drop the the AUdio_TS and VIDEO_TS folders into a data DVD? or make a a Video DVD and add the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder?

Other than forget about dropping the audio folder and just drop the VIDEO_TS folder into its Nero counterpart and click burn. That's it

To answer your question about matrices I don't think anyone yet has any definite answers to give you. Being that those settings are newly added features all I can say is experiment with it. I still haven't really gotten around to it yet but eventually I will. ;-)

I haven't really used matrices via DVD-RB's matrix editor. But i have used them often via RbOpt (DVD-RB addon). The way i like to describe them is similer to the "sharpen" and "smooth" functions in DVD Shrink. But not quite as simple. It's usually not good to use them (in my opinion) Unless your compression is lower then about a bitrate of, say, 2900-3000. Then it's just kinda up to you really. Using the proper matrice on something that's REALLY low biterate, can help the picture quality a lot. It shows off what CCE can do at lower bitrates. My faves are Kika Comic High and AngelBestLow.

Well, then Matrices might be the answer to my latest problem.
I'm currently CCE'ing some Stargate DVD's with RB78 + CCE 2.67.02.00. This I do after ripping all unneeded crap out of the menu with DVDRemake and stealing even more bits with NuMenu4U. But for a DVD with around 3,5 hours of video I still get an average bitrate of around 3000 and some noise around the edges.
The Quality Prec is at 16 (what I believe to be standard) and stubborn fucker as I am I make it a 9 pass encoding (it does seem the more passes, the more accurate the final size will be as to requested).

So, will Matrices help me out here? And how do I go about using them? (please, a small step by step guide voor a Matrix noob)

Hmmm i don't know why you would be having any problems at all with a bitate of around 3000. I'm a horrible teacher, i don't have the patience. So no step by step guide here. LOL. I say ditch the menu altogether. I hate to say that but i'm gonna. And with a bitrate of 3000 or more, i'm not sure exactly how a matrice can help, BUT...you should ask some of the Pro's around here. If i had to lean towards a matrice to use for you situation it would be Kika Comic High. Here's a lot more info about RbOpt http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75202 . I hope it helps.

Well, the menu's been reduced from 600MB to around 80MB with full functionality (any other language than English is not deemed functional).

So I'll keep it.

Unfortunately someone's posting the entire series now and the quality of the DivX's is equal to my 9 pass CCE rips...

The path for CCE basic should go to Program Files/Custom Technology/Cinema Craft Encoder Basic/cct2.exe on the chosen drive.
Did you allow the default directory on install?

As long as the path directs to where the files are located, it doesn't have to be the default folder. There are some things wrong with the configuration file. It looks like one from SP that has been altered back to Basic. The CCENew= and CCE=1 has the program fooled.

Here's what a clean Basic configuration for your setup should look like. Note I left out Decomb. You only insert that as needed. At least I haven't had a problem with it out, your discretion to put it back. You had the Expert settings away from default and the 3 passes causes Basic to default to 1 pass.

Copy and insert the following configuration settings to replace the ones you have in the rebuilder folder.

[Options]
HC_Quality=1
HC_Matrix=1
Mode=1
AudioDub=0
idct7Opt=1

If you changed any folder locations, you'll need to change the path. This configuration file is for RB Pro. The Matrix setting wouldn't be applicable for freeware, but it shouldn't make a difference.

That is what a freeware version looks like. Just out of curiosity, it the E: drive a hard drive or DVD optical drive? Just a bit strange, everything on C: and the source E:.

@brobear, I donated $5 today so I have the "Pro" version. On the drive thing, I put the movie (Incredibles) on the hard drive in a .ISO format so I don't delete a file on accident. It is mounted to a virual drive with the letter "E:"

Thanks for the help,

Peace,

You're welcome. Most people just rip with Decrypter in file mode, but RB works with ISOs as well. You don't lose any files that I've noticed in file mode. Just optical drives pose a bit of a problem if one is trying to read from one. After your first successful encode with the new configuration, you'll have CCE= and Completed= added to the folder by the program. You have a running tally of how many programs you recorded with the app. Just in case you want an accurate count for bragging rights later on. LOL

Not sure if you've fixed it yet, but here's the problem:

...
AdditionalOutput=1
NoWarn=1
CCE=1
OneClick=1
[Audio]
Selected=1000011100
...

You're using CCE Basic -- but have selected CCE Pro under OPTIONS/CCE OPTIONS... the ini file should say "CCE=2" if you've selected CCE Basic...

Thanks for the support.

jdobbs and I were pointing out the same problem. I simply corrected the problem by leaving CCE=1 out of the configuration setting and CCE=2 is written in by the program when encoding is started.
Quote:

The CCE=2 (for CCE Basic) is written in by the program following the start of encoding. The user can type it in, but it doesn't appear in a clean configuration before starting encoding for the first time. This is one of the problems using an SP configuration file for basic, or vice versa, the CCE=(?) isn't changed by the setup options. The user can delete the entry and let the program rewrite the correct entry or type in the correct entry if known. For the forgetful like myself, it's easier to leave it out and let the program do it. As jdobbs pointed out, typing in 2 for the 1 for CCE=2 changes to the Basic path setup as well.

The point to remember is: No CCE=(?) or the right one in configuration settings, the wrong entry will cause problems.
