edit: okay, i de-installed all my stuff and installed a new version of avisynth (2.5.5) and the rebuilder installer pack of version 0.80
then i linked to the new installed cce sp 2.70 trial version an clicked on CCE SP, then i get this error message: "ecl is not a ecl for cce sp trial version"
if i clicked on CCE SP Trail and run RB then i get this pupolar error message:
"ERROR: File V0200000001001 shows completed, but no .M2V file existst."
(beside, back in the days i used the version of 2.67.00.27 of CCE) and all works very very finde, to bad that i couldn't find it anymore on the net (i deleted it without intension)
any hints for me please? :) (beside, i seach in the forum for myself, perhaps i could find something)

Make sure you select "CCE SP Trial Version" under the "OPTIONS/CCE OPTIONS" menu. If you haven't done so, you have to redo the PREPARE any time you change an encoder.
Also, add this line to the [Options] area of the REBUILDER.INI file (it should fix your "No M2V file" issue):
MIN_BITRATE=500
The new CCE SP (Version 2.70.02.01) has a problem with exceptionally low bitrates.
Just as a note: Anyone reading this should add this line also. It will become the default in DVD-RB v0.83 and above.

hey jdobbs!
as you write me, i added the min_bitrate entry in the rebuilder.ini under [Options] and a made sure, that under CCE Options -> CCE SP Trail is selected.
So i run RB again, but the same error (no .M2V) error eccour.
tomorrow i start googling the error (now i go out ;)), perhaps i can find a solution, or do you have any other hints?

Hmmm... after it has stopped, open CCE manually and then, using FILE/OPEN/PROJECT, open the file "item.ecl" in the directory "D2VAVS" located in your working folder and attempt to encode it. Tell me what error CCE returns...

@ Jdobbs
Does the added line which will already be set in 0.83/Pro take care of the issues with multiangle DVDs?

Hi, Ryan,
Use the "search" feature and you'd find your answer in this thread... that's a bug on the part of CCE in their Trial version. You can fix it by going into DVD-RB's SETUP screen and clicking "Run Encoders Minimized".
Or... you could use one of the free encoders such as QuEnc or HC if you don't like watching a movie with a Cinemacraft logo on the bottom.. -- or buy CCE Basic.

Hi Jdobbs,
If I checkmark the " Run Encode Minimized ". Are there any influences
about the picture quality and/or revolving the Pass with 4 set that I have been setting up already.
Thanks for Your help.

No impact at all. All that does is start the encoder in a minimized state. The status dialog will still come up, though.

With RB80 I thought I'd try to use DGDecode.dll once more.
When using DGDecode.dll before, every time my project ended up about a gig short of target for no apparant reason.
With MPEG2Dec3dg.dll it was as good as spot on every time.
But alas, even with the DGDecode.dll that came with RB80, the final size is again a gig smaller than will fit on the DVD, unacceptable.
Also very unclear as to why, anybody have a clue? (RB80+2.07.02)

I sure can't see a connection between DGDECODE.DLL and filesize. It's just a frameserver. It reads the original MPEG file and hands the frames over to AVISYNTH for processing.

I hear you (well, read you anyway), but I did it a couple of times and every time the switch to DGdecode makes it fall short of target.
But if DGdecode has no such influence, what else could throw off the calculations so much?
Can avisynth be the culprit?

I have found what I believe to be a bug that was introduced in CCE SP and CCE Basic V2.70 that is the cause of your problem. I am investigating a workaround for the problem (it is associated with unreported CCE buffer overflows that cause it to abort before the encode is complete). Your output is very likely missing frames.
Look for an update to the Freeware and Pro versions of DVD-RB later today.

does anybody know how to set the DVDRB or CCE SP so to fully utilize the full 4.7GB, as the output of DVDRB is some 150-200MB smaller than full DVD-R?

When reencoding there is a limit to the accuracy of the sizing. 150MB is within the rounding figures and if you recoved it you would not improve the quality of the output by any measurable amount. For example 150MB might change the bitrate of a 120 minute movie from it's original encoding rate of 3,100Kbs to 3,267Kbs...
Another reason for coming up a little short is that many of the inexpensive blank discs can have trouble writing to the outer sectors. This reduces the chance of blocking and freezing in the credits or extras that can sometimes be seen.
Lastly, because of the limited accuracy of encoding, there is a chance that if you push to the edge you can go slightly oversized... and the would require a complete new encoding be done.
But... if you like push it to the edge of the envelope, there is a value you can add to the REBUILDER.INI file's [Options] section. It is called TargetSectors. It is the size in 2K sectors that DVD-RB uses for its calculations. The default value is 2236400. You might try adding:
[Options]
...
TargetSectors=2260000
Or pick a value of your choosing. I think Vurbal's guide has a suggested size -- but PLEASE, if you change it don't get mad at me if you occasionally oversize and have to reencode...

A full 4.7 gigs really means 4.37 but an ideal size is around 4.28 to 4.3.

Normally with default settings I get sizes between 4.31 and 4.33GB. That is only about 30 to 60MB less than the full capacity of 4.37GB. Rarely does it dip below 4.29GB which is only 80MB less than max. When the program is functioning properly, it does an excellent job of sizing the output.

/put oil on fire.
I run 9 passes and have my target sectors to the max and come about 3 or 4 MB within the limits of the DVD, every time (I usually use quality, so that shouldn't be an issue too often).
Once I got a few MB beyond the limit and I just ripped one of the subs with DVDShrink and it fit again.

I did a little test with: LOTR Return of the King.
I did one copy with Shrink & Nero
The 2nd copy with Rebuilder, CCE Basic & Nero
I can't see a differance in the quality..which I'm disapointed & it took 304 mins to do the copy with rebuilder !!
The first copy with shrink: All I kept is the Movie, English & French Language & English Subs. I also cut the end credits.
The 2nd copy with CCE: All that was on the first + Menus & End Credits.
Do you think it is because I left more stuff on the 2nd that I dont see the differance ?
If so, How do I go about removing Menus & End Credits with DVD Rebuilder ?

Dan

If you just want to do it for the test, remove it with Shrink using "No Compression" and then run the result through Rebuilder.
While the Pro version has some additional features -- Rebuilder is designed to do complete DVD backups. Try doing the entire disc, (extras and all) and look at the quality. My guess is it will be as good as the movie-only output of any transcoder. Imagine what would happen to a transcoder if you tried to keep everything?
Just my two cents.
Also -- there are examples where a transcoder can do as well as an encoder... it just isn't often (and I don't think LOTR is one of them) -- in addition, to some people "ok" is good enough, or they will be watching it on a low-end 19" television that won't show the difference anyway.
There are good uses for all tools.

...Well it's not for a simple test... I want Rebuilder to be my new way of backing up Movies Since I bought CCE. Pass it thru Shrink before would take much more time. Is there another prog out there that would allow me to edit the movie ( Take out Menus & End Credits )? My TV is a Flat Screen 27 Inches, But High Quality is a " MUST " For me !
Regards,
Dan

DVD-RB Pro will allow you to blank out the credits or convert them to slideshow. Menu reduction is very near, but removing menus completely probably won't be in DVD-RB for at least a few more versions. You might try VOBBlanker (freeware) or DVD ReMake (not freeware).
