DVD remake works well with DVD-RB for the most part. However, over editing VOBs with such tools is dangerous. Edit what needs to be edited, let DVD-RB do what it does best.

Decrypter will allow you to just rip the movie if you want. Check bbmayo's guide on how to do that.

If this has been said before, I apologize. I just couldn't bring myself to read 77 pages of posts.

The latest DVD-RB Pro version (0.86beta) now allows you to do "Movie Only". I'm about to give it a go. Thanks jdobbs!

@callous

There wre enough people asking that I thought I'd better add it. No sense making people resort to "tips and tricks" to get a movie-only encode.

While you're at it you may want to download Hank315's latest HC encoder. It is truly impressive and getting better. The new versions are faster and now using DVD-RB you can do a high-quality OPV encode (something you once could only do with CCE SP)! You can get it here:

http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Encoders/MPEG2/HC_014.zip

Cheers!

I get the error "Illegal source. Missing VTS_1. Aborting."

Obviously, DVD rebuilder wants the whole file structure. I just want to back up the main move (VTS_7). Is there a way I can do this? I don't want to use DVD Shrink or a similar tool because I want to compress it with CCE.

Thanks for the tip/recommendation regarding the HC encoder from hank315. I'm trying my first OPV encode using HC v0.14. My first encodes using HC v0.13 (2 pass VBR) exceeded my expectations. Up until recently, I have used nothing but CCE Basic v2.69 but Hank315 is giving it a run for the money. HC is a bit slower than CCE but he is making great improvements in this area as well (quality of encode is very good).

Has anyone backed up a movie with 0.86Pro movie only. I've never had problems before now all I get is run-time error #9

Edit your REBUILDER.INI file. More than likely the SOURCE (or WORKING) directory is pointing to a place that doesn't exist or is unreachable.

@Ppower

At what point to you get the runtime errors? Is it immediately after starting, during the encode, at rebuild?

I'd like to help, but I need a little more information.

I've been getting run-time errors during the re-build. I've now tried 7 movies with movie only mode and the re-build gets to 100% but then says updating Navpacks for Vobid 03, I get the run-time error. I've never had a problem before updating to 0.86Pro

Hmmm... I haven't seen that happen... I'll do some more testing. Anything peculiar about your setup?

Also, can you give me an NTSC title that will consistently cause the error. I'll go purchase it and run the test.

As for never having problems before 0.86 Pro... there has never been a movie-only mode until v0.86 so it would have been difficult to have a movie-only error. Remember -- this is beta software. It is in its debugging stage until version 1.00... that's the only reason I allow these errors to show. They flag other things, usually in the source, that can cause problems. Then I can adjust so it can handle all situations.

Thanks.

@jdobbs ,

i donated to rebuilder over the weekend and just wanted to say im quite impressed with this pro version and cce basic . these are some of the highest quality backups i have ever done .

i have had the same problem with it failing when updating the navpacks but only when doing the main movie only . if i do the entire dvd i get no failure . its quite strange that it will do the whole disc but doesnt like to do just the main movie some times . its not all the time or anything but it happened to me a couple of times over the weekend when i was trying out the pro version .

That whole section of code is all new, there's bound to be a couple of bugs... I'm going to pick up Sum of All Fears and give it a test.

When DVD-RB does the entire DVD it can take the original IFO structures and just update pointers, etc... but when it creates a movie-only DVD it has to create the structure from scratch.

@Ppower & dlc2000

I found the error. It was variable initialization error. It caused Movie-Only mode to fail during REBUILD on any source where the main movie is not found in VTS_01. I'm amazed I didn't catch this before I sent it out...

You should get an update notice with a link to the fixed version later today.

I'm having a little problem. The other day I set up 5 Rebuilder projects to do a batch encode. So far out of the 4 I tried to burn 2 had errors in Nero saying DVD file allocation failed. I'm not sure if this is because of Rebuilder but I've never seen it before. I'm using Rebuilder 0.86 Pro. I know there is a new one, but I haven't tried that one yet. Any ideas?

Well, I got the error on the fifth movie, but I browsed through a couple of them and the 2 I went through all seemed fine, so either it never really was a problem in the first place or IFOEdit fixed them.

There are some know issues with Nero flagging errors that aren't really there -- just burn it.

Here's an example: If you have an original commercial DVD that has a zero length VTS (no, there is no logic to it, but yes they exist) DVD Rebuilder goes to extremes to make the backup match it as close as possible, so it creates the zero length file in the output directory. Nero will see the zero length file and kick out an error.

Yeah, I kinda figured that. Thanks. Nero does get goofy sometimes. So are you saying I shouldn't have to fix the errors with IFOEdit?

I wouldn't. IFOEdit is a fantastic tool, but sometimes it can be wrong too. Example: Have it create an IFO from a set of DVDs for you. Then run it against itself ("Get VTS Sectors") -- if finds errors in its own output.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd never trash IFOEdit. It is a tool that I have on my desktop and use every day. It's just that no software is perfect.

Has anyone backed up Darkness with 0.87aPro movie mode. I've tried it twice both times getting outputs of only 2.88Gb
