I've just got a gainward bliss 7800gs, and it's very fast, very quiet, and it plays all the games on my pc at maximum quality settings, it's overclocked with riva tuner to 560 core, and 700 mem. no artifacts or any other problems.

far cry, doom, oblivion, etc, they all run smoothly with all options on at 1600 by 1200 res, I'd recommend this agp card to anyone.

tally ho.

Sumone, edit your sig to forum specs of 50k asap.
2. An image-only signature should be less than 50kb in size, and be at most 500 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall.

Basically best gfx cards here are ATI, Nvidia.. Others may or may not work

Oblivion is a resource HOG, meaning it will use ALOT of system resources.. shut off anyhing not needed. If slower computer prob best to disconnect from net and turn off all firewalls)

Alternatly if it still fails :MORROWIND is a very good choice. it is a predecessor to oblivion, and has probably 10 times the adventures in its 3-pack (oblivion and bloodmoon addons) Including several thousand user defined modifications on-line (if not tens of thousands) it will play on lower cpus also

Game Crashes- Certain areas can commonly crash under certain conditions of graphics on slower computers (even sometimes faster ones) If a crash always occurs at exact same place save just before it, and exit game.. set all settings to lowest possible (aliasing off , turn distance to close etc) This is how i cured really bad spots with same errors. Also as said above shutdown any non-esential programs so that they do not use same resource region.

If you do get pat the error spot safely make a couple clean slate spots so if you ever want to restart start at that location.

Alternatly If there is really bad spots in the tutorial area you can get oblivion mods online (pc only) allowing skipping it I can find links if this helps let me know

First of all of course goto Oblivions main site and see if there is any updates to Oblivion http://www.elderscrolls.com

2nd user setup modifications can be found on 'Mod sites'
One of the most popular is here: ->

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/Vi...ory_select_id=9

<-
Copy/paste betrween entire above arrows in case it cannot just be clicked (remove any spaces) That links to a main site with 'Bug Fixes' (SIGNUP MAY BE REQUIRED TO DOWNLOAD, or use only PUBLIC SERVERS just use all FREE OPTIONS)

On elderscrolls.com goto their forums to see if specific bugfixes associated to your errors can help.

There is also a tweek ini for oblivion on-line but I do not recall where check various forums associated

Hope this helps

how does system ram effect oblivion performance levels?
does having greater memory in your graphics card compensate for low levels of ram?

How does nore memory help?!? consider this the game Has to use memory for your character, the trees, the walls, the sky etc etc etc etc. Including the graphical detail of opponents on the screen and memory for data. I originally tried this on a p 2.22 ghz with 1 gig of ram and it crashed computer every 10 minutes Just like clockwork
(not just game the computer)
I upgraded to a 3.06 and 2 ghz ram and the game pretty much plays really well, it (still crashes once in a great while but not computer game just closes) but i can play it for a long time without errors (except some areas have 'dirty spots' that graphics settings must be changed to work with my gfx card)

Obviously the more memory you use the better it works.

REMEMBER: windows xp has lots and lots of other programs running even if you cannot see them

IN REGARDS TO THIS:

Hi!
I have a problem. When i am playing the game, it is shut down. My system

x1600pro,1gb ram,amd 3800+

3800 amd is like 2 ghz is it not they reccomend 3
HOWEVER same thing happened till i upgraded my computer. I reccomend following :256 DDR ram gfx card (just about any modern one that does NOT share the board memory) Allow 3-5 gigabytes of free hard drive (i reccomend 50 or more) Defrag computer often (a better defragmenter than onboard is 'disk keeper) Keep settings of game to as low as possible. Full screen sometimes is better but if game crashes (which it will) you'll probably be foorced to manually reset.

Alternatly see if windows xp x64 is still available. IT is a alternate windows xp where alot of useless software is stripped from it. Perhaps with that xp you would have a smoother transition Plus it can convert your windows to 64 bit. However I have not tried oblivion with that.

ALTERNATE TO THAT: open TASK MANAGER (ctrl-alt delete once or rightclick a solid area where your program layers are) goto 1st, and second option start shutting things down. however this can be DANGEROUS. (to find out what each task is goto a search engine type full filepath in quotes like the following:)

"fungameloader.exe"

see what that process is online some of that stuff may be spyware/wasted memory programs

Hi everytime I load Oblivion I get this message

"Failed to initalise renderer. NIXAdapterDescCaps() failed."

Any ideas to why this is coming up?

I have a 256mb MSI GeForce 7300GT graphics card if that makes any difference

You Must be using windows XP, you must have direct x 9.0c or newer installed (comes with the game) If still failing try updating the gfx card with the manufacturer site, and change settings in oblivion to lower graphics or windowed mode, if still failing something in your computer is probably incompatable if so probably time to upgrade the cpu+motherboard or gfx card

Contact elderscrolls.com see if they can help more otherwise I suggest upgrading to a computer processor+mb that exceeds 3 ghz

That should undoubtably fix the issue I ran on amd before it did work, however had a 100% crash computer rate after 10 minutes
I think this game hates AMD just my opinion

I recently got oblivion for christmas and was pumped up ready to play. When I tryed to run it though I had to buy a new grapichs card. I bought a Radeon 9250 pci 256mb graphis card. I then downloaded the oldblivion and all the shaders and things like that. I was able to play for about an hour but when I got to the goblin shamen while escaping from the prison the graphics card shuts down when the goblin cast a spell. The only slots my computer has is pci. Is there a way to fix this or is my pci slot to slow to run the game.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If your computer resets with error, it is not powerful enough to run oblivion and you probably need to upgrade mb+cpu , if it simply crashes oblivion change main video seetings to low and make the screen size as small as possible till you can get past what I call 'dirty areas'

Basic things: make sure hard drive(s) re as defragged as much as possible , Stop any other unneccessary program, Run programs that remove spyware and trojans so you have hidden programs stopped that could cause error Hope it helps, otherwise contact elderscrolls.com for more help

My game is acting up again.

To give you some background info my computer randomly minuses game(not just Oblivion) I am playing (it does this quite frequently). Whenever it does this i have to resatr the game. that is getting annoying but that is not my problem (though if you know how to fix it please tell me). When I restarted my game and tryed to load the last save game my grapics card shut down (the computer continued to run the game just fine). This would not seem weird to me except that when I had just played the game I was able to play just fine i even died and had to load this very same save. In the game I am inside Oblivion just near the top at the tower when your are first going to, for lack of a better word, collect marcus. I am trying to shut down the gate to Oblivion.

If anyone has experienced this problem and know how to fix it please post a reply.

Thank you very much
