I've been trying to run Dante's Inferno, and I'm getting the update loop.
I've tried what has been suggested here, (putting the $SystemUpdate folder on a CD, on a DVD, on USB) but it hasn't worked, and doesn't load the files. And I apparently still need to update, because the game still tells me that I need to. Just to see, I tried patching with the files from the Mass Effect 2 CD, (which should be Wave 5, right?) but nothing happened.
I've patched the ISO to Wave 3, and it worked for Dark Siders, so I'm not sure what's wrong with this one.
Any suggestions?
(I've also tried patching to Wave 2. It doesn't ask to update anymore, but it also doesn't run the game. Just goes to the DVD screen, and tells me to put the disk into an xbox console, ironically.)

I went to my local rental stores today trying to find one of the games with the update and none of them had 1, i think tomorrow i'm gonna go to gamestop and try to find one used and bring it back after i update with it cause i've given up on trying to get it to work. I burnt the activate disc, that didn't work either, of course i haven't tried reburning it at the normal wave 6 and trying the activate disc that way but does it even work for wave 6 games on 1.51? I actually cant even remember if i have 1.5 or 1.51, all games have worked fine changing them to wave 3 up to these last few with the update. Up to Bayonetta and Darksiders they worked fine, and the games i have burnt with the updates oddly work when i take my hardrive off my console, wich i don't get. I wanted to ask 1 last thing that i thought of, the usb stick i've been trying to use is actually a usb stick that you plug a micro sd card into and the micro sd card is what holds the info and i was just wondering if that mattered, i don't see how it would but i figured i'd ask.
you can play the games if you take off the hdd but i dont know if you can save them using the memory card as i dont have one can anyone confirm this. also do games such as bio2,dantes work with 1.6 and the boot disk my console is 1.5

I'm pretty certain that this is co-incidence- but on my xbox with 1.4 iextreme I converted MW2 and GTA episodes to wave 3, they played but would freeze a couple of minutes later. Real wave 3 games like Halo ODST would play fine and not freeze. After about a week after playing the converted freezing game the 360 got the RRoD.
Like I said I believe this to be merely coincidence but it seemed strange that the converted games were crashing, but real wave 3s would play fine right up until the day the RRoD struck.
I ask this as I have just bought a pre-owned 360 and have noticed very tiny marks on the grooves of the casing. I suspected that it has been opened so tried a backup game in it. Turns out I was right and I have just unintentionally bought a flashed 360!
The snag is it is a 2006 model so probably only has 1.4 or 1.5 so I just want to know if I would be ok converting newer waves down to 3 without risking another RRoD. I can't see how a converted wave disc could cause the RRoD but if anyone knows whether it strains the GPU or anything please let me know as if this is the case I will go get the firmware updated. Many thanks to any that reply.

Patching the wave will not cause the machine to RROD.
The fact that it's a 2006 model doesn't mean it will have old firmware on it, i have a 2008 model with 1.61 on it lol.
Why don't you just get the firmware updated anyway?

Yeah didn't think it would cause RROD but just wanted to make sure. I had a look on the HDD of the xbox I just bought and it has gamesaves recent games like Need4Speed Shift, so it may already have the updated firmware. I tested PES2010 in it and it works. Only thing is I don't know whether PES2010 is wave 3 or wave 4. I can't find a list on abgx site. Do you know if a list of game waves exists and if so where?

Hi
Just wanna be clear on a couple of things.
I have GOW2 original disc on a xtreme 1.6 firmware that I play online fine.
I play backups of assassins creed / bioshock / mass effect2 offline (ie remove cat5 cable whenever i play) just to be safe. But using the stealth disc for these is doing my head in.
If I say, patch ACreed2 to Wave3 will it boot up straight away and there is no risk of being banned as long as a NEVER have the Cat5 plugged in when I play backup games.
The need to use the boot disc means the game is unsafe to play online anyway right? So surely downgrading the Wave for a game is OK as long as u aint ever dumb enough to boot up that Wave downgraded game on xbox live.
Cheers

for some reason I cannot get wave patcher to install on my computer. It keeps getting stuck and freezes. I cant close it unless I run Task manager and stop the process WDSetup.exe. Any idea what would be causing this? Thanks in advance for your help.

I would think you are safe. After all say you were to play Assassins Creed on wave 3, then take the disc out and put in a retail Assassins Creed (which is wave 4) then your save file would not be modified, so I cannot see how the xbox would store wave data of games you are playing offline. Therefore I doubt that going online with GOW2 would transmit to the banners that you have played the converted assassins creed.
I only think you would get banned playing a converted game online (which you don't do) so you will probably be ok.
Best leave it for a few days and see if anyone can answer your question conclusively.

Not true, microsoft have ways of seeing if a modified disc has been in your machine.

How is the xbox storing this information? Say for example you have an early model xbox that was made before any wave conversion programs were about, how would microsoft have known that they should build a function within the xbox that would record what game waves are being played?

I beleive the info is stored in the secdata.bin
Don't forget the wave you are patching is the video partition, this makes the iso unsafe on or offline.
This programme is reccomended for banned users mostly.

I stand corrected.
Though I still would like the originally poster to try going on live and see if he gets banned. I am curious now.

How confusing.
Forgive me if I am wrong but the idea that patching a game with a lower wave that you never go online with is going to unsafe seems counter intuitive.
The fact I have to use the bootdisc already implies the game is unsafe to take online. So doesn't this mean that the secdata.bin file is already gonna be UNSAFE?
Also, if an XBOX does get banned what actually happens, does a message come up from MS? Can I still connect at all ie, download game demos after being banned?

Just another thought then to get around the save file issues.
What if I have two harddiscs.
20GB HDD
I format this and use my 20GB for Online play only, ie. GOW2 original.
60GB HDD
I only use this to play backups. ie AC2, Mass Effect 2.

The secdata.bin isn't on the hdd so you could have 10 hdd's and it wouldn't make a difference.
Once you get banned thats it no more live on that console ever ( gold or silver)

im already banned and have burned games without converting the wave on them. i think i have ixtreme 1.5, but im not sure since i bought it from my friend who had it modded by someone else. is there any version of ixtreme that i could use so that i dont have to convert the wave of the game and so i dont have to use a boot disc. someone told me that the new versions of ixtreme were so that u could stealth them properly and not get caught and since im already banned it doesnt matter.

I have 1.5 and i used the boot disc to play dantes inferno flawlessly. If by boot disc u mean activate iso then yeah.

Hey sickdude, speaking of dantes inferno i tried using this program and i patched it to wave 2 but all it says is "play dvd"?
My xbox's dashboard is updated. I have 1.5 firmware (i can only play wave 1 and 2 games) so i ended up using the activate iso to play it. Any suggestion to get this running? Maybe i missed a step.

Are you sure you only have 1.5 as the activate.iso only works with 1.6 and up?
Did you run the iso through abgx after you patched it, if you do it will just fix the iso and patch it back to it's original wave.

Hi
What is this secdata.bin
Anyone got a sample of what is stored in the actual file.
Is there any way of deleting it from the XBOX?
Is it held on XBOXs internal memory or somethin?
