Hi to all, this is my first post and i'd like to start by giving a big THANKYOU to Piopat, Fint et al who have taken the time to give such excellent instruction to newcomers like myself, i came across to thread by acciedent about 10 days ago, i read the tut(5or6 times) and decieded to order 2 dm500s, two days later they arrived the day after i had a working external share, and i know very little about computors. At any point in my set up where i was having problems, someone else had posted the same or similar and all were an answered, sometimes at great length. so again, thankyou to all.
p.s i'll be back with a couple of questions myself!!!

You followed procedure alright, then it dumped you,but you have services & bouquets saved on PC so all is not lost. I don't know why you were asked to reboot by HAND. I remember organising channels on a box & FTP to desktop to copy to other boxes I thought it was cumbersome there were so many files to be FTP'd where as with D-box it's 1 file. When I looked at DCC & DBedit methods I was happy to go back to old method, but the boys here swear by DCC & DBedit so it's only a matter of getting used to them

You be better to use dream-set Jon at least you & Dan would be talking same language or ask him if he ever uses DCC as I think that's the better of all these progs to use because it will do every function with dreambox

if you press ok to bring up the channel list on your db and then press the menu button then you will be able to edit the channels numbers and names from there

Also go into SET-UP--SERVICES ORGANISING & create or edit bouquets
When you have channels to your liking locate individual files & FTP to Desktop folder
You will find services files in var/tuxbox/config/enigma(+1 bouquet file)
You will find rest of bouquet files in var/tuxbox/config/enigma/cable
Each file (around 15 files depends how many bouquets) has to be FTP'd to D/top folder
Once copied select RE-LOAD channels in box menu, re-boot box

Problem solved, the files will only show up after a hard boot ie unplug after ftp of files, if i do a reboot using remote no joy, nor will it work if i do a hard boot after a reboot.

ok, so the next problem, is it possibly for the machine to do an over the air update to keep listings up to date, sky change freqs/transponders on a regular basis, this editing in dbedit will become quite the pain in the ass.

That explains why you were asked to reboot by hand. Good that you sorted it out

your card will get all its updates while in the dreambox but you should put it back in to the sky box about once or twice a month as a precaution . the channels may move around (thats the norm for sky ) so do an automatic transponder scan once a week or every 2 weeks and that issue will be solved .

I have come across a new problem with my setup basically two boxes on a external share.
both have been working fine now for monthes but for last week i have lost two channels on the one box.
one box has pli jade as no matter where i got the darkstar11 image from it would not like it.
the other has darkstar11 and works fine with it.
the pli jade box has lost the two channels. tried a transponder scan but still have nothing. everything else is all ok as these channels have been working.

You would think if its dish or lnb problem you would be missing more than 2 channels. I expect both channels are on same transponder. You could FTP up to date s*y sat xml file to
the box
