my only wish is that dreambox created a decent tuner. its the reason i spent on buying a vu+ duo. quality difference astounding. also i no longer use inadyn. impossible to give clients proper quality. instead i use static ip so my friends get quality service. costs, but hey my sky sub costs the best part of EUR 100 anyway so a few extra bobs just gives me peace of mind and my buddies a decent service

Just about inadyn set up Guys...
I have a dyndns account of the type jicjoc.dyndns.org
Am i right in assuming that my alias is then jicjoc?
Then just enter my user/pass as per dyndns website, set it to update every 30mins and roberts my fathers?
I think its all entered correctly but is there a way to test it? Just wait til my ip changes and see?
Thanks

As Jackooh said read first post in this thread & do it step by step. First enable dreambox or
similar to use your s*y card. Then set up internal share with 2nd box in your house. Read thru
rest of this thread to see how others overcame difficulties encountered. Then try set up ext
share to friends house. Plenty of advice here if you need any help

Hi guys
I've read and followed piopat's brilliant instructions to a tee but am falling over at the internal sharing. I have, as follows:
Main box downstairs, I have ethernet cable, sky connection, sky card and live network connection
F: username password
Box upstairs, I have ethernet cable, live network connection
C: 192.168.*.* 12000 username password
I'm most probably being completely dim here but I don't get a picture upstairs :(
I'd appreciate any help in getting me up and running.

did you disable dhcp in communication setup in the box with the card in it ? ,if you dont disable dhcp the ip can change and if that happens the channels wont open . double check that the ip of the box with the card in it is the same as the ip in the c line ,and ensure that the username and password in the f line are the same as the username and password in the c line ,also double check that you deleted the # symbol at the start of both the f and c line .if the # symbol is not deleted the line wont work .

Thanks for the reply pio. Yes I've disable DHCP in both boxes and double checked IP addresses and username/password - all seems ok.
Both cccam files have the # removed - they read as follows:
[line 23] F: portland1 brook1 (main box with sky card)
[line 80] C: 192.168.0.50 12000 portland1 brook1 (box upstairs)
I'm not sure what else it could be :( I've even tried the oldest trick in the book and rebooted both boxes but still nothing upstairs. When I look at the full channel list, I don't get the ! symbol before the channel name, nor do I get the time when changing channels either. Ethernet connection definately up and box is responding on network.
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

you dont need to disable dhcp in the box upstairs (only the box with the card in it )go upstairs and enable dhcp on the box as the router may not be able to see it. obviously make sure cccam is set as your default cam on both boxes ,as a test to see if cccam is set as your default cam bring the card upstairs and put it in the box (atleast the basic pay channels should open)your f and c line look fine as long as the ip your showing is the correct ip of the box with the card in it.

Thanks piopat. Still no good :(
I bought the card upstairs, but not even seeing the free to air channels. Default cccam is 2.1.4 on both boxes. Besides the ethernet cable, do I need any other cable linking main box to upstairs?
I took the box downstairs and connected to sky dish and all ok, so i'm confident the box itself is configured correctly...

Sorry to intrude Balcee, I know you have gone thru tec details with Pio. Just want to make sure you have a few basic things right. You have LAN-cable from each box connected to router.
You have co-axial cable from each box connected to sat dish. I'm sure you have these right
it just wasn't clear in your post

Cheers for your help last night guys. Both boxes working now :) I had a dodgy coaxial cable which I replaced.
Moving on to external sharing. I've created my dyndns account and installed the updater - so far so good...
I visited portforward.com and followed pio's instructions but it keeps forwarding me to a page to buy some software called pfconfig (for port forwarding) for $29. Just wanted to make sure this is what I need to do or if i'm going to the wrong page.
Thanks

this is the portforward homepage
http://portforward.com/
from there you click on routers list (you can find it just under the left side of the big arrow at the top of the screen)
this is the routers list (when you find the name of your router click on it)
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
for an example lets say your router is a dlink dfl200 (you would click on dfl200 and you will see the pfconfig advert ,look in the top right of screen and you will see click here to skip this advertisement ,so click on it ) now you will be here
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DFL-200/DFL-200index.htm
this is what you will see in the above link
Welcome to our guide list for the Dlink DFL-200. Please select the program you are forwarding ports for from the list below.
If you do not feel like figuring out how to forward ports manually, we have a simple software solution called PFConfig that can forward your ports for you automatically. We offer complete support for our product and will help you get your ports forwarded.
We have Free Software to help you test your port forwards. Our ultimate goal is to have a write up for every hardware router and firewall available and instructions for every application that Internet users have difficulty getting to work through their router or firewall so that you can do simple port forwarding. These guides are provided to help you, but we are in no way responsible for the state of your network. If you encounter any errors in our guides, please let us know by using our Comments page.
If you do not see the program you are forwarding ports for, be sure to visit our Default Guide for this router
where you see "be sure to visit our default guide for this router " default guide is highlighted so click on it and you will be here
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DFL-200/default.htm
one of the first things you will see is this
To setup port forwarding on this router your computer needs to have a static ip address.
Try our free PF Setup Static IP Address Program which will setup a static ip address for your computer.
Or you can take a look at our Static IP Address guide to setup a static ip address. When you are finished setting up a static ip address, please come back to this page and enter the ip address you setup in the Static IP Address box below.
what this means is you will need to set your pc a static ip address simillar to what you did with the box with the card in it ,here are instructions for doing this on both windows xp and windows vista
http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm (this link is for win xp)
http://portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm (this link is for vista)
now after you have set your pc a static ip address return to the default guide for the router
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DFL-200/default.htm
now below where you see the setting a static ip stuff (thta you just did) you will see the instructions for opening a port on your router .once that stage is complete all being well your port should be open and people can share with you.

Brilliant stuff. Thanks very much for your help on this. I'm at the final stage now which involves creating the rule to open the port on my router. It says the following:
"Enter the ip address to forward these ports to into the Send to LAN Server box. If you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on your computer, you should enter your computer's ip address into that box."
When it says computer's ip address, I take it that means my main dreambox static ip address?

Aargh! This is really frustrating me :( I'm using a c: line that my friend gave to me to test. I put it on GOLD channel. It made a funny noise then the screen went multi coloured.
Switched off box, waited a couple minutes and restarted. Now the power light comes on but the box doesn't respond to the power button or remote.
I think I'll call it a night...
