so-cool, your external ip is the key. this directs requests to your router. then you forward these requests from your router to your dreambox by setting up a port-forwarding rule.

so now to the benefit of a static ip. of course you can still use dyndns. but if your ip is constant then you only need to update dyndns once. after that update all your clients will always be able to connect to your system using your hostname on dyndns or by directly connecting to your system using your static external ip address

what would be done differently when setting up cs in my set up ie broadband through cable modem supplied by ISP connected to Belkin wireless router would I open the port on the cable modem or the Belkin like I have, like i said in my earlier post I got external share working but my dyndns setup was a bit strange it only works when I set it up with my external Ip but not when I set it up with server box Ip any ideas why.

sorry, i thought i just did explain why you must use external ip rather than internal ip. example. all broadband users have internal network. the internal network ip address will be 192.168.x.x. How would it be possible for an internet user to connect to such an IP when every single broadband user in the world has the same internal ip numbers. Hence the only way to connect to your network is to connect to your external ip address (which is unique to your router) and then the router forwards the requests to the internal box on your system (your dreambox). there is nothing strange with your dyndns settings at all. they are exactly as they should be. be aware that if your dyndns hostname is as described in earlier posts you should change it immediately. you should not post such information on an open forum

Fintannl what you are saying make sense, but I got this form post #446 in this tread
comenting about the image I in post #747 and that's not my dynds addy thanks

Quote:
you will see below the ip address (your current locations ip address is )so they have your external ip address ,so in the ip box put in the static ip address of your dm500s .after all its your box (with the card in it) that your clients want to connect to.
I'm set up and its working and I should not try to fix it if it's not broken right, maybe I misunderstood the tut thanks to you and Piopat and all the other guys for their valuable contribution.

i see nothing wrong with piopats tutorial. it states that the server must have a static ip address. the reason for this is that all clients can connect from www to your box. the only way this can happen is if the port forward from your router is made to an internal IP that is a static ip address. it makes no sense that the server would have a dynamic ip address because then the router would lose connection on a regular basis to clients

hi kop mate maybe im misunderstanding you im not sure ,but if you want two sky boxes (with sky channels )you need sky multi room ,which is a sky sub with atleast two cards and two boxes (the second card being a lot cheaper ) but for this sky require you to have a phone line connected to your sky box. that means if your card is not in the sky box sky will know (and want to know why) if im misunderstanding you kop mate sorry and please let me know.

Alright pat.

How do you share your sky out to your friends?do you put the sky card from a sky box into the dreambox?so then the sky box without the card wont work?Am I right?or can you share your dreambox without the card in it at all?

in order to share with your friends the card will need to be in the dreambox mate ,the sky box will still open all the free to air channels of which there are quite a few.

that box is different to a dm500s but a lot of the same things apply ,you can flash the box with dreamup (but you will need a newer version )in the same way i described here on this tutorial for a dm500s however the image you use must be for a dm800 .flashing with dreamup will take about 50 minutes or you can flash via web browser which takes only a few minutes ,also before you flash the box you need to know what sim and bootloader version the box is .

to find out what the sim and bootloader version is power up the box and look at the little lcd screen at the front of the box the sim and bootloader version will be displayed on there. if the box is new and is a clone its most likely sim 2.01 and bootloader 76 (BL76) but you need to check to be sure .

if you let me know what sim and bootloader version the box is ill give you a link where you can download a good image . the menus on your dm800 will be different to a dm500s but the cccam side of things will be the same as on the dm500 .

you may not be able to install cccam in your box with the gemini image as gemini are no longer allowing cams to be installed via the addons menu , you could try and change the addons url in the dreambox but if your a newbie to dreambox you may find that very hard to do . however have a try at installing cccam 2.1.3 on your current image (it may work ) here are instructions for installing cccam on a dm800 with gemini image (enigma2)
http://www.umbrellasharing.tv/cccam.html

as i say if you find you cant install cccam using gemini (the only other alternative other than changing the addons url )is to reflash the box and change the image ,if you need to change the image you can use this image
http://www.dm800sim2.com/sim2/nabilosat/content/61/20091115/194.html
flash either with dreamup or via web browser .

Pat you can also flash a dm 800 with dream up and a network cable connected i find easier than a web browser..just open up dream up with null cable and then connect your network cable in dream up tick use network put in ip address of computer and in remote box put ip of dream box hit connect it will ask to turn on dream box and it will load flash loader and you will get box in network rather than serial mode the hit flash pick your image and it will take two mins or so

you can connect a usb sat tuner on the back of the dm800 to make it into a dual tunner solution. you just need to check what usb tuner your current image supports.
