madskull - your opinion is just that, your opinion. quite a few people including myself have had excellent luck with the fliptops. I personally have 240+ PS2 games that work fine on my fliptop (the number 240 represents my backups of my original games and those i've made of other peoples games that have no means of making backups). Chips are better as in the direct boot and ability to load appz, but it all comes down to personal opinion on what kind of mod (solder or solderless) you want. If 75% of your games didn't work, perhaps it was the burn method or some other factor that kept them from functioning properly, we all know no-solder mods are touchy when it comes to things like that, when solder chips seem to handle more.

I was wondering if anyone has tried backing up mega man X7? I recently backed it up and after the blue border came up the screen went black and never loaded to the game. anyways, I thought maybe CDLoader would fix it but I didnt work. I have backed up tons of my games and this was the first that did not want to work. any suggestions?

if it's a cd based game try using a different burning program or different media. the red border could be anything from a bad burn to the disc not being in right. I'm sure others people have had luck with memorex discs but i know i've had a few games that just refused to work on memorex but worked on anything else.

I have a version 4 PS2 with SMD version 2. I backed up ESPN Baseketball with no problem.
I used Record Now Max at 1x with a Fuji DVD-R.

I was wondering if anyone has had any problems using a multitap while playing a swap magic loaded game? I was the ps2 was running real slow when I was playing NBA Street V2 and would not read any of the controllers in def jam vendetta, but for some reason there was no trouble with madden 04. do you think it has anything to do with the swap magic or could it be that my system is just old (v3) and is starting to die out on me. thanks

Man, i finally read through this whole thing!

similar off topic questions have been asked and it is really not on the subject of fliptops (but i am quite interested in them now because of this thread). at this point, i am mainly using the PS2 as my primary DVD player and i too am having no luck playing my backed up DVD movies. i haved used Nero, DVD Decrypter & DVD Shrink to process these movies. i also burned at the slowest speed possible and they play wonderfully in my laptop and PC.

i did not think the media i am using is the problem considering. i am using a Fuji DVD+R on what i am fairly sure is a PS2 V.4 (if i read the identification guides correctly) which quite a few previous posts replied that they used these with success and the DVD+R's played fined in their v.4's.

after reading all the posts i saw mention of finalizing the DVD+R's and i wasn't sure if this applied to the movie backups as well as the games. i am not aware of any options in DVD Decrypter that is user defined whether the disk is finalized or not. as for NERO, by default i thought it automatically checked the 'finalize DVD' box for the user, but i am not 100% on that.

i will try again tonight with Nero for sure and double check the 'Finialize DVD' box. sorry for the long post and i appreciate any input you guys may have.

just one point 4 u not all v4 ps2's will play dvd+r disc's if you have the capibilty to burn -r disc's i would recomend you try using one and if it works then you know that you were mastering your dvd's correctly and your ps2 v4 dosent support +r disc's

i had also read where other's have used DVD-R's for the earlier versions, but there was usually no need because another user had posted that they had success with the DVD+R's.

i am so vested in the +R's (bought a few spindles) that it slipped my mind to even try the -R's (plus their cheaper!). can anyone recommend DVD-R media that they know for sure works for V.4?

it goes somthing like this v1-3 ps2's dont support +r some v4 will support +r some dont v5 onwards all support +r disc's all ps2 versions support -r discs. i personly use ritek dye based discs and have had great success with them on my v7 but any decent brand should work ok maybe some one with a v4 will post which discs they use for u

hey, i've got a v4 and i use cheap no-names from tigerdirect and i have never had a bad burn. i backup dvd movies and ps2 games. the name of the cd's is Legacy. they are the ones that are blank on top as well. but whatever floats your boat, if you want to spend 2 bucks a disk--go for it! :-)

lkailburn, those LEGACY's...are they DVD-R's?

well, i checked Nero and by default whenever a DVD Movie session is started it checks and locks the finalize button. i am convinced now that it is not software related, because i tried all my backed up DVD's on a seperate sony standalone DVD player and all of them worked flawlessly ('cept one, which i think was just a bad burn in the first place).

so, soon as i get a hold of few DVD-R's i will give it a try. again, any further input is always appreciated!

dvd-r's are the safest way to go. I've backed up over 15 games and about 20 movies...all flawlessly. plus, they are more inexpensive than dvd+r's...

yeah i know what you mean, but you know that can also be a problem too, alot of stuff gets put out that just aint done right to begin with you have no control over it. it sucks, but i guess it's a small price to pay :)

Sony is a good company, IE: PlayStation 2 :)
But most everybody I talk to has the Pioneer and I do also. I never have a problem using any of the DVD's, even cheep off brand stuff. I have the A05 but now the A06 can also do the DVD+R and +RW besids the -R. I have also read where you can burn some of the 1X at 2X with the right firmware. If you look around you will find that the Pioneer has a very good price also. I highly recomend it.

PS2 Ver 7 with Messiah Mod Chip, HD Loader and 120 Gigabyte Maxtore Drive

X-Box with Evox and 200 Gigabyte Western Digital Hard Drive
