Hanedrick; Thank You for your support, what I was trying to say is to find out if my v4 PS2 works with DVD-R back-ups or DVD+R. I currently use a Modchip I bought about 1 and a half year ago to play my CD-R back-ups, and it works fine even online, but when I try to play my DVD+R back-ups my v2 Gameshark freezes when I try the swap. I will follow your suggestion and get the Flip Top with the Swap Magic since I saw a Package Kit with both Flip Top and Swap Magic for $40. I really appretiate all your help!

Some users of this site refer to their Playstation 2 as a v4 PS2...what does that mean?? i spoke with Sony and they say they don't know what it means ....they have different model numbers over the past 3 years (about 10 models)...but no version numbers...i often see on this site v 1-3 or v 4-7 especially in reference to the fliptop cover...So, please, if someone knows, what does it means... thanks

Sony does not refer to their different releases as versions the way we or any other mod people do. It's more like our way to decipher what release is what, so we'll know what works with what.

If the Version 2 Gameshark doesn't work on it then I doubt the Version 3 will. Though I don't know I don't know for sure.

Now where do i find this code?? for example, I bought a brand new PS2 so what version would it be considered.. please let me know for future reference....thanks for you help....

The latest version out right now is the version 9. A guide to find out what version you do have can be found here http://www.psxmodchipcentral.com/shopping/installGuide/version.html
It only gives guides for 1-7 but version 8 and 9, I think are pretty much the same as version 7.

Yes. The fliptop cover will work with the v9. However there's a minor difference in the way v9 and previous versions were built. Therefore when you get the fliptop follow the instruction on this page http://www.ps2cover.com/v9modification.gif

hey guys great thread i have been reading ti fr some time. I have been considering getting a fliptop and figured some1 could answer my question so here goes: can fliptop with swap magic 2/3 play dvd rips(632mb+) because if not im not sure if ill get it so please explain it to me. thanks in advance.

The Swap Magic V2 will not play cd backups above the 632mb limit. However, if I am not mistaken, the smd v3 will. The v3 will also be able to play the games that require the cdloader like splinter cell.

thursday, some version 4s do read dvd+r and some don't. It's best to be on the safe side and get a dvd-r burner but if you want to chance it and get a dvd+r burner your not necessarily out of luck.

Soulja, not hassle you or anything, but spambots scan through this site for email addresses so you might want to exchange email over private messages. After all, those adds for penis enlarger pills are a pain lol :)

Hey Hanedrick are you POSITIVE that swap magic 3 plays those i mean does anyone have a swap magic 3 to test it because i have a bunch of dvd rips which i get from suprnova.org and i already downloaded about 8 so i need 2 know. also i dont have a dvd burner so all i can burn are dvd rips and ps2 cd games so i need to know exactly if or if not it play dvd rips or i wont get one for christmas. i thought that Magic sawp disk come with a DVD-R loader version??

Does that mean it still has a 632mb dick limit?
Also where can i get good quality CD-R less than 632mb and quality DVD-R?

Dills2214 what version ps2 are you using. I have a v4 and i am thinking about getting the flip top so if you could tell me if you have heard anything about the v4 and the flip tops i would appreciate it. I also was wondering how the old version of swap magic is compared to the new.
