Yeah I can vouch that BenQ makes some quality burner's. I recently bought a Sony DRU-810A which is rebadged BenQ. It works great. I guess I could've gotten a BenQ 1640 for half the price, oh well lol. I'm happy with the results.

@permigg
Wow!! that is expensive, indeed. Where did you purchased it from, may I asked? I usually got mine from either www.supermediastore.com or locally at Best Buy or Wal-Mart (for the FUJI 8X DVD+R "mij" and the Maxell High Grade 8X DVD+R "mij").
Again, you can always order online, it's much cheaper that way, in my opinion.
Is 10 quid for 25 discs a pack = $15 for 25 discs a pack?

Wal-Mart are a bit hard to find around these areas...
Got them here:
http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/dvd-rnoprint.html#a3167
That includes the postage obviously which is almost the price of the cd's...
Creaky recommended, and i think they're the only ones that sell them here in UK.
Have a look in there, tell me what you think, the prices are both in sterling and euros (i think it's close to dollars innit?)

@Alkohol: I'm very tight with my money now...(you know the reason...)
But i trust Creaky, and if he get's them from there, then they have to be good.
@Gurnard: those were the ones i got, but also there's 4 quid odd on top for the postage... I think next time i'll get 100 of them, so it makes them cheaper per unit...

Yeah that's steep Permiggs, you should've ordered them from supermediastore.com. You could've gotten a better deal. Look at it like this, even if they don't work, it will basically eliminate the media as a problem. I'm beginning to think your prob's may be hardware related.

Well, it's a long story... I'm using my samsung burner on my dad's pc, because my pc don't touch DVD-R's... Only RW's.
Even with my brand new LG burner... I only managed to get a couple of results on it...
I can't afford a new pc (this one is 3 years old) because my ex takes 1/3 of my weekly... I'm getting an upgrade next week (my local pc shop shuts down for Xmas time)on RAM memory and maybe a new HDD.
I bought those discs as a last resort, if they don't work i'm really gonna consider knitting...

@ permiggs hi :)
yes i'm sorry ,they have a min charge and it does make them expensive. both creaky and i use svp, but we both buy several 100 at a time, which only adds a few pence extra per disc.
im afraid we are not all in the lucky position to be able to afford to buy that many at a time i know.
have no fear they are the best

That sucks. I have a friend with an ex like that, no need to go there, I understand completely. You said in the other thread your v.5 PS2 with a flip top was done, what version PS2 did you replace it with?

This one is V7, haven't opened it yet.
(basically, i accidentally ripped the little ribbon on the other one, thought it was shot, bought this one, found a new ribbon, it's working again, gave it to my brother...)
But i need to change the flip for this one...

It should be compatible. The v.4-7 PS2 use the same model flip top.

- indeed!
As to the shipping at svp, yer it's steep if you only want a couple things but i only buy stuff from them if i'm able to buy enough to justify/absorb the shipping charge. it's only the last few months i've been able to afford to buy a small few tubs at a time, so i go overboard when i can (not literally, it's toooo cold in the boat never mind the water), i got shedloads of Verb TY in at the moment, haven't been burning as much as normal so there's tubs everywhere. the last 16 tubs are still in the long thin shipping cartons as that's the only way i got room for 'em, they're stood up on end (the Verb TY come from Japan in 8tubs to a carton, that's why i buy multiples of 8 now).
Just got paid, and i got the urge to buy a few more tubs.
will post the Verb TY info here (again, i know!) so anyone who stumbles across this page will see they're real cheap...

@Tokijin - not exactly. but i guess it's all the same difference. I love Verbs but i sort of ditched them now Verb TY are here. and they're quite a bit cheaper than vanilla TY, plus they have a nice surface to write on, which is important in my book, the shiny silver TY get far too grubby

hehe, darn u creaky...when the U.S. gonna have the Verb TYs? lol
i'm just fine w/ my shiny silver top surface, but, those are identical to the ones you get from supermediastore Tokijin, with the only exception of the top surface, the media itself is identical w/ the TYG02 media ID coding...AUTHENTIC Taiyo Yuden media... :)

Yeah Happy Taiyo Yuden's days for all lol. They are the only media that'll ever touch the inside of modded PS2. I fell in love with them after my first cake box. Great quality scores, no skips, and no coasters after 85 burns. Hey Creaky post a link to the Verb TY's please, I'm just curious what they look like. Thanks.

hi permiggs, good to see ya around...yes, unfortunately you are SOOOO right in that i can't even obtain them over here in the States...guess i'll just have to make due with my $0.20/piece U.S. EACH for the TYG02s when i buy in BULK~! this is OBVIOUSLY not in local stores, but online thru my vendor...LOL :P
i guess my association w/ Taiyo Yuden does in fact have SOME priviledges...i can usually get TYs cheaper than the general public and i also get first dibs on their NEWEST media (at least here in the U.S., they release newer stuff overseas that we Americans simply have to WAIT for..hehehe, example being the 16x DVD+R YUDEN000T03s)
but, i trust creaky's recommendation over there in the UK...Taiyo Yudens are Taiyo Yudens no matter where in the world, AS LONG AS THEY ARE AUTHENTIC~ :)
anyways, best of luck w/ those "sexy VERB TYs"...im sure they will be every bit as good as what i have in stock...TY quality is standard around the globe~
p.s. i too have a "shedload" of TYs, like creaky...with all of the diff. formats and rated speeds combined...i got about 3000 pieces (in Taiyo Yuden carton/thick cardboard box which holds 600 pieces each, got about 5 cartons, give or take a 100 pack spindle in the last carton~ :))

Yeah I just like the shiny TYG02's, because their a little cheaper than the printable ones. You can get the TYG01 4x Printable DVD-R's for really cheap off supermediastore.com, but I like burning my PS2 games at 4x. My brand loyalty borders on madness. The only other brand I'd consider are the High Grade Hitachi Maxell's made in Japan. A couple of Alkohol's CD/DVD Speed scans peaked my interest in those. Several of them had fewer P.I. Errors than Taiyo Yuden's.

@Tokijin
What kind of burner do you have? I thought you said you have a SONY DRU 810A (or something similar, can't really remember)? If so, then you shouldn't have any problem burning them. My SONY DRU710A loves to burn those High Grade by Hitachi (mij) as much as my genuine Yuden.

Yeah I have a Sony DRU 810A Dual Layer DVD-/+RW burner. It works great. It's just a rebadged BenQ. I don't mind since BenQ makes quality burners. As you know Alkohol, most Sony's are rebadged Liteon's or BenQ's. That's a good thing though, those two companies make quality products. I have a question. If I would've bought a BenQ 1640 (which is about half the price of the Sony) instead of the Sony burner, would I really notice any difference? I don't regret buying the Sony at all, it has worked out great for me, I was just curious. Happy New Years all!
