Well, I can see where your coming from my friend but the system I have in mind willactually allow everything to be up for reading. To elaborate a little, topics older than a certain period (ie. 3+ months) are put into a archived section. This is usually a sub-folder within a specific forum.

The positives are, newbies bumping old topics by mistake won't effect normal discussion and it also should speed the site up as archived threads are reduced versions of topics. Everything will still be searchable if a people want answers.

Considering the size of the board, we'd benefit from it.

Actually archiving doesn't speed up the site that much, even tho virtually all forum software support it as means to speed up the site. I've discussed this topic in more detail and outlining my solution for the speed up process in my recent blog posting. So, as by other means there can be a significantly better improvement for the forum speed and as we already block newbies from posting to old threads, I'm not very convinced on building a separate archiving system for the site. But of course, it can be done and is actually relatively easy to do as well.

The member profiles do not seem to be loading when clicking on the members name. Pages are timing out before loading, anyone else having this trouble?

Hit some DB problems again yesterday (64bit MySQL doesn't seem to be too good with handling memory), which caused the profile pages not to load (some of the few pages not load balanced at the moment).

Got a message today non functional email address, same one I've had since i've been here. Was at work said to set up new functional email address and reply from new one. I got home had messages on both emails clicked into my account on original and the non functional email was taken out from under my name. Haven't replyed with other email but can sign in under that email too. What do I do now? Will I still have emails coming to both addresses? Something I just noticed Newsletter came to new address and threads subscribed to come to the original address. Now I just got a thread update to what are you listening to on the new email. Chris

Sounds strange. What was your previous email provider? Some services (especially Yahoo! and Hotmail) delay message delivery significantly. Yahoo so much that most of the newsletters, for example, don't get delivered at all, and many get delayed for several days (the newsletter is sent out on Thursday, and some Yahoo! users don't receive it before Monday).

Your current email address seems to be working OK now.

It's seemed fine to me, the only problem I have is from the house. I've noticed alot of "suspended due to non-functional email" lately that is usually quickly resolved, I don't know if this is a site glitch or an ISP problem.

It is an ISP issue (users' ISP issue, I mean), Yahoo has something going on in their system -- so far, 20k accounts have been frozen due this. All other email flows nicely.

I have disabled the automatic bounce checking for Yahoo! addresses for now. Hopefully Yahoo will get their act together at some stage.

If anyone has a problem receiving thread update notifications or any other emails from AfterDawn using an Yahoo address, please try a different email provider. I still recommend Gmail myself.
