dude the only reason why the outlet is brown becuase of a voltage spike that is the only thing that it could be, there is no core filter for spikes on the 360's power adapter get your self a battery backup.

so when you look up above a few posts and you see the way i'm cooling my xbox 360, you'll ASSUME i won't freeze anymore, right?

WRONG... I went home for lunch to game for 30min and froze right on startup screen... then, got the red light of death AGAIN.

what the...??? i can't cool it any better unless i do finally hook up watercooling to it, but i doubt it'll make a diff... the damn thing doesn't get hot with the fans i'm blasing on it...

what else could it be... a BAD MOUNT from the heatsinks??

you guys think i should try to reseat the heatsinks and put on Arctic Silver 5? I don't wanna go further with this piece of junk if it ain't gonna help.

Any serious input will be appreciated... maybe it's just a bad mount or something... that would explain why some 360s don't have probs (that are same date as mine)...

Ummm ok lets assume it overheated then lets assume it damaged the chips some then guess what happens when a chip is damaged you can not cool it to get it to work the chip itself is damaged.

i was HOPING i wouldn't hear that...

i do a lot of PC work and overclocking... usually when a chip is damaged from heat or overclocking, it's damaged for good and produces artifacts EVERY SINGLE time... not a random freeze here and there.

That's what's weird about this... =/

I wonder if I could send in the unit even though the M$ sticker was peeled off... would they just charge me or something?

very, very interesting... but how would i know if that's true... i sure hope it is.

i may have to try it myself. But... my DVD drive is hacked, and unfortunately I've misplaced the original firmware.

Anyone know if there's a way to UNHACK my DVD drive??

Might have to ask in the 360 forum here or a moding forum somewhere or pick up a used 360 drive from ebay for 30$/$50.

Mmm ran across a torrent with these in it

Firmware_for_Hitachi-LG_47Dv11_Xbox_360_DVD_Drive-iND / 47dv11.rar

Well I have two Xbox 360 Premiums (i bought other one to have at my gf's place).

I have the ORIGINAL firmware of my other xbox 360 somewhere... both systems have the same drive, the Samsung Toshiba (newer version)... would I be able to throw the firmware from that onto this one???

I thought each DVD Drive has its own identity... i could be wrong.

ah thos are 60 a pop LOL

but as far as I know (I do not mod the Xbox/360 I can but I have not since I have dodged getting one I do have 2 xboxs tho...1 needs a new PSu tho) anyway from how "I" understand it each type/brand has its own frimware not each drive unit has its own each brand/type.

from what i've gathered, i think the SERIAL # is implemented into the firmware. I hacked both of my 360s and I know I had to enter the serial# in the DOS prompt on my PC... when I was in the middle of hacking the drive.

How do I EDIT my posts... I don't see an option? WTH? =/

while they can tell a moded frimeware apart from a non moded frimware they wont be tracking what drives to what mobo so as long as you have the same version mobos and the same version drives they will work on each other and vice versa.

THE EDIT BUTTON is normally in the upper right hand conner of the message box by link this message link,if you can not see it,go into the forums and the news comment thread and find the post in there its a left over bug from updating it dose not show up a lot much anymore but looking at the comments threw the forum is the ebst bet to find it...wait.....this is not a news comment is it? LOL

oh well upper right conner the lil note pad and pencil.

I think (and hope) I found the solution.

Check this out here.

I have my 360 all the way down to the mobo right now... gonna dismantle the heatsinks and go nuts. I have all the tools necessary, as well as AS5 (as I'm a fellow overclocker for PCs), so I think I can take care of business here. :)

Hopefully, I'll fix this darn thing by the end of the week b/c now it's getting late. I'll try to take some pix too.

Well I have a HUGE amount of experience with computer modding, such as physical mods for cooling or volt mods... I think trying a few cooling mods will be a piece of cake... it's just I now have to MAKE THE time for it. I start a new job on Monday (IT - Systems Specialist) and I'm finishing up at my current job, so it's going to be tough to squeeze in the time.

I'll keep you posted, though! Hopefully with good news...

teach me volts and amps :P

LOL
I toy with a bunch of low voltage stuff I was annoyed a friend in the "filed" said cat 5 would be bad to run a 7V 1A current threw but after testing I found it dose overheat or blow the lien any (7V 1 A bat sweeper cleaner I needed to put a switch on the handle I have a ton of solid copper wire cat 5,I used 2 pair or 3 wires to send the current up/down (I forget if cat 5 is 3 pair or 5 wires LOL) anyway after testing it for a couple days it works and dose not get hot).

BTW know anythign about mod chips? I need to put a Xeno chip on one of my PS2s but unsure what wire to use I have some cat5,intercom wire and should have some ribbon cable around here *L*

Well I cut off the wires of dead computer Power Supplies, so that I have spare wire... I just always have spare wire... anything that dies, I salvage its parts.

As for Cat5 cable, it's 4 pairs of wires for a total of 8. :)

Mod chips... well, all you really have to do with those is follow the tut or the manual... any time there's a mod chip, there's always some directions with it. I bought a $100 Soldering Station... called the Hakko 936 if i recall correctly... I love it... but you can always get a decent soldering iron for $20-30 from elsewhere. Radio Shack has cheap ones for like $6-10, but it's tough to do more fine soldering with those irons.

Well, hopefully I have time before Monday to get my 360 back up... not sure if I'll have time tonight or tomorrow night, and I'm busy Fri night and Sat night...

I have no problems soldering its just....I am unsure of what wire to use :P

This is bull, I have had one on my 360 since I purchased the console! I have had no problems with it and the temperature difference is outstanding!

Seems you have been unlucky, my 360 has a guarantee with the retailer that protects it from such a problem regardless.

Well guess what MS just spent 1 billion to shovel bull shit, wake up noob you might not be having troubles with your 360 but some people have had to replace theirs not once but 3 times or more, so before you spout fanboyish nonsense over crap do try and think alil.

Thank you and have a nice day :P

Really tho if the fail rate is under 50% your not going to see litrealy every other unit fail you are going to have some that work and some that do not with, and with about a 3rd of the systems suffering from either bad manufacturing/parts/design/whatever something is up and MS unlike other companies that sweep such things under the rug is actually cleaning the damn thing.

As for the Nyko cooler turning the 360 into a convection easy bake oven its possible however at a fail rate of over 10%(MS them selfs have state its more like 30%) the system itself could simply be failing and then frying the cooler.

Oh you have not said if yours is a launch system or something bought in the last 5 months when they started improving the cooling system, retailer warranties can be tricky I hope you have a solid one.

SO I will say it again be proud MS is doing something about the fail rates of the 360 and not ignoring it,now if they would just come clean about the disc eating LOL.

BTW your sig is longer than 4 lines, tighten it up some.
