Try buying the game and backing it up, that is what this thread is all about.
Stay on topic.
I fully agree. This is for making a backup of your disc. Also, since there are so many files out there that are not what they claim to be, how do you know you even have a good iso file of that game. It could be a porn movie, like so many times I've experienced. Use a backup you have ripped.

You are banned, and its more than a year later, however this may help other people in the future..
It is possible your filesystem is FAT32, which only allows 4GB files, which a wiidisk is ~4.6/4.7GB
Hope this helps someone :).

I cant seem to get RawDump 2.0 working in vista...
It loads just fine, but always gives me the error "You may have a faulty drive", then exits. The process I try is loading rawdump, opening drive, put in wii game for backup, hit "start dump" then close tray.
I have tried it in safe mode too, only thing I can get to work properly (in safe mode too) is FriiDump.
Anyone have any solutions for getting rid of this error?

Do you have a faulty drive?
DVD or HDD

for sure not HDD, and couldn't be the dvd drive...
I got one off ebay, told guy it was DOA (from the errors) and got another one. Couldn't be 2 bad drives in a row.
I just don't see how to get rid of the error, especially with FriiDump working decently in safe mode, just not rawdump. FriiDump/safe mode didnt work with the first drive, so I suspect that one was faulty.

I've read around that pulling the jumper in the back may do some good...
currently it is set at cable-select.
think that would do anything?
I also will check it out on a xp machine.

CableSelect (CS) should never be used if possible. There are very few computers which actualy support CS. You need to ensure that if there is more than one drive attached to the cable that one is master and the other is slave. If you have a single drive on the cable then use Master.
I use Vista and it works fine for rawdump and it works fine. My computer is not new and getting it to run Vista was not a walk in the park but eventually drivers came out.
I didn't see you post the drive you were using (I could be blind) and one last thought, if you have this DVD drive on a cable with a hard drive, is it an 80 conductor cable, not the old 40 conductor cable. It's still 40 connector pins but there is a ground wire between each signal wire allowing less crosstalk. Sometime we will grab an older cable and although it will plug in and seem to work, at times it can fail.

thanks for the reply bud!!
My dvd drive is: LG HL-DT-ST Dvd-ROM GDR-8162B
I only have one device attached to the IDE cable (the 8162b), and it is set to CS; I will change to master when I get home from work.
Also, I am not sure if it is 80-pin or 40-pin. My motherboard is:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Moth...ame=GA-965P-DS3
[I am using the cable provided by gigabyte]
And what do you mean by: "getting it to run Vista was not a walk in the park but eventually drivers came out"?
The drivers for the 8162b are installed correctly/vista auto-installed them.
One other wierd note, this morning, I tried running RawDump 2.1 w/ WiiGames (the game that comes w/ system) and it read the wii game/dumped the perfect image this time. Anomale? Will try another game tonight.
Edit:
Boom! Just backed - up another game ... no probs at all, even did in 1 hr 35min!
RawDump 2.1 workin here; without issue

As for running Vista, I only meant that my system was not supported well when Vista hit the streets. Over a period of more than a year is it now stable. Nothing specific for the DVD drivers.
I would definately change the jumper setting on the drive and the data cable is probably the 80 conductor type if it came with the motherboard but since it's a single drive on the cable, this should not be an issue. Just to make sure you understand, the cable in both versions are terminated with 40 pin connectors. The difference is in the 80 conductor cable where there is an extra ground wire running between each signal conductor. So both cables plug in the same and transmit the same data, but the 80 conductor cable reduces crosstalk electrical noise.
Hope this helps...

Hi
I am using RawDump 1.2 and everytime I try to back-up this Wii disc I have here for my friend (his kids keep scratching them, and his console is chipped) it takes about 17 hours! It starts saying 2.5 hours then slowly increases until it's suggesting 17 hours and not dumping very fast anymore.
I am using one of the LG drives that work, this is the first one I have tried. It is on it's own cable and is set as master.
Any idea what I can try to get it to do it in 2.5 hours? Maybe its the disc?
Thanks for your time,
Dave

You are using one the working LG drives, but what one? not all drive are created equal. Try another disc, if that one is scratchy then you may have issues

My daughter has just bought a WII and I would like to backup and play the DVD games that she has. I have a Sony DVD burner which I know will Burn the WII iso image using a LG 8164B DVD reader. I have not got a 8164B but will as soon as I get some more advice from this Forum. I would rather not order a MOD Chip and have to open the WII and solder wires and so on. Is there any other way to get the console to play back up disks??. I have seen on EBay a "SD Memory Card Converter Adapter" which they say has just got to be inserted into the memory card slot. Would this work?. If not is there any other way to go which does not involve opening the WII and soldering wires.

Short answer, No.
But if you can provide me with a link to that ebay auction I will check it out. I suspect its a scam if it says it will play backups without a mod.

You can back up a wii game now, with one of the LG drive's, without modding your wii....
The issue you have is the wii won't play disc that are backed up..
The SD backup program is loaded on a normal DVD so that won't run
think its a utilities disk provided with the chip... although several sd backup utils exist
You have no way of running any code on your wii, without it being modded.
I'm sure someone will soon find a game exploit mind, to allow you to run custom code and perhaps custom firmware

This is the description of the adapter. I used something similar to this to play backed up cd games on the old Sony Playstation. You had to backup the CD onto a BLACK blank CD and start the game with ANY ORIGINAL CD and then stop the game and insert the Backed up CD, there was also a spring that kept the CD cover opened.
If this adapter will not work. Then can someone give me a link to order the Best Mod chip and also a link with full instructions on how to open the console and solder in the modchip

One of the catches with the SD dumper is your using your wii drive to dump the game, so your as it has a mean time before failure it may get damaged quicker.
I surpose its a matter of costs, which drive is the cheapest a replacement wii drive & fitting or an LG drive ?
The twighlight hack i think would let you run the SD dumper, so you could backup the game as stated earlier, but not play the image...
I do think its only a matter of time though, someone will customize the firmware...

This may be a stupid question but, if I buy the LG drive, can I make additonal backup copies from a backup disc by copying directly from the LG drive to another DVD drive such as Pioneer, Samsung, etc??? Is it just original discs that require you to dump the ISO to the HDD?
Thanks for your help
