Mate I have had nothing but problems trying to use a laptop and flashing the xbox.. just get a cheap desktop and save yourself the hassles.... and before someone says that the PCMCIA sata cards will work.. I have not been able to get three of them working.. so unless I am really unlucky save some money and just get a sata pci card for one of your old desktops if you have one... or just buy a old cheapy...

well, the card will not be in for atleast a week so i dont really know if it will work or not. as for buying a cheap sata card thats not the problem. the problem is none of the desktops around my house support the USB boot from BIOS. so i'm kinda stuck with trying to use the laptop as of right now.
EDIT:
yes my desktop has a floppy drive.

Also I hear for USB flash change the name, hope that helps.

Hi guys,
Well my Xbox360 has died on me,kind of,The DVD drive will read DVD's but not game disk,Every game I put in it gives me the (TO PLAY THIS DISK PLEASE INSERT IT INTO AN XBOX360 CONSOLE)
DVD movies work fine,Just not games, and since I didn't buy the 360 to have another stand alone DVD player,I called Xbox and they told me they'd have to repair it,Well that was what I figured,However they then Told me My Warenty was out,So I'll have to pay $125 total to get the thing fixed,I found a New DVD drive online that is Compatible with the 360,
And I was wondering if My mother Board was SATA Avalible? So I checked and it says It's got onboard Serial ATA,
Here's the board Specs
Asus K8V SE Deluxe VIA Socket 754 ATX Motherboard / AGP 8X / Audio / Gigabit LAN / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 & Firewire / Serial ATA
So does that mean I don't need a Sata Drive to flash the DVD drive if I get it and replace the drive my self?

I know this probably isnt the right forum to post this in so could someone please point me in the right direction....
Heres my post...
I just came upon an Xbox 360 w/ two wireless controllers...two guitar controllers, guitar hero 2 and madden 07 for $150.00US. Is that a decent deal first of? and second question is...I want to backup my games...what is involved.... If its a decent deal I guess I will keep it an purchase new games but I want to be able to back them up. What hardware and software do I need to do so? If its not worth 150 bux...what should I do...sell? ebay? Just point me in the right direction...thanks.....

thats an excellent deal if the system works lol...
other than that to play back-ups your will have to flash your xbox 360 DVD drive with hacked firmware...
and the rest of your questions are in the FAQ!!!!

Yep, it works....We're playing guitar hero 2 now actually.. i cant wait until next week when GH3 comes out :) looking forward to that....
Oh yeah, ihave a slim ps2 also, i've recently found out how to play my backups on that...and its been working out farely well for me. I use a swap disk and the tape/tissue method...minus the tissue...i Just taped down the two switches and the brake and i have no problems at all :) I wanna know if its just as easy to backup the games for this 360 i got....I'm pretty sure my DVD burner is Dual Layer...b/c it says on the front of the drive DVD+R DL so I think i'm headed in the right direction....
With minimal reading in the forum...i think i'm required to 'flash' my 360's hard drive and then get some dvd9 disks and then some software and i'm in business....

Thanks theridges... I actually printed out all 126 pages of the tutorial w/ my HP deskjet 610...it took two hours lol....but now i have a hardcopy to reference when I'm workin on my 360. Since this morning when i finished printing i've got my 360 spread out on the coffee table almost completely apart...I had to run to three diferent stores this morning to find a T8 driver tool to get the 8 screws off the back...i have the T10. So thats how far i've gotten.
I found out that the drive i have is a samsung and my current dvd burner is dual layer and I do have SATA hookups on my Dell PC but i need to find out if the samsung drive in the xbox is an ms25 or an ms28 and until i can find that tool (t8) i need i'll just have to sit tight...thought i'd let ya know ;) Thanks again

Turns out I didn't even need the T8 tool afterall. I took the 360 apart and gained access to the DVD drive in it... Samsung ms25.
After reading the tutorial before attempting any of this I assumed I had everything I needed...wrong. I did not and do not have a usb flash drive...I ordered one off the net yesterday (monday) it was something like 2gigs for 19.99 So now i'm awaiting that before I can continue...i wish it would hurry!!! I'm anxious!! plus i need to get this sh*t off my coffee table lol
